Tonight we're checking out a classic ME-8 "Guitar Multiple Effects" pedal made in Japan by the fine folks at Boss. Really nice overdrives and very easy to program.
I've seen what's inside, the Boss Me 8 uses a sturdy iron frame like the Me 80, 50, 70, 25. Surprisingly, inside the plastic box there is a sturdy iron frame. However its BOSS !
Just found you from Robert Baker Badass playing and great tones! Love my BOSS ME-50, have had it since 2000 and still works great. NewSub from fellow dad rocker 🤘
I was ready to buy it together with the Jackson PS-4 back in 1995. But I saved some rubles and went with locally made distortion pedal (PROFI 501). Couple years late I lost a bag with that pedal and some cables. I was so happy it wasn't ME-8 :))))))
I sold my GX700 as wasn't that impressed with the pedal emulations. The ME-8 though kicks arse there! It also has some crazy sound fx which I dig for ambient guitar. Gonna have to explore mine a bit more! The GT3 and GT5 are also great tone monsters.
It’s an odd duck. To me, it has the best analog over drive and distortions of all the Boss floorboards but, simultaneously, the junkiest construction. I guess that was meant to keep it light and affordable.
@@cliftonwright7081The Boss Me-8 uses a sturdy iron frame like the Me 80, 50, 70, 25 series. Believe me, inside the plastic box there is a complete and sturdy iron frame.
Hahahaha I clicked on the time link like 7 times in a row. I didn’t notice it was saying that until now. So many missed gag opportunities. I need to make a video of all of my dumbest sounding gear.
@@LeonTodd oh man I thought I’d live a lot more years without remembering savage garden now I must do a solo acoustic arrangement of their smash hit single.
So good! Hell yes! Your an amazing player! Nice job! Country, Blues, Rock, and Metal. Wow! One question where is the classical. Lol you have all the bases covered your a great artist!
Hello, congratulations for the channel and the contents! How do you see the ME8 in comparison with ME5 in terms of tone quality and warmness? grateful if you have any suggestion or personal experience on how you prefer among the 2 models for example etc etc …thanks a lot! ( I play smooth and pop styles with sometimes some rock tones.. )
With or without the nostalgia factor, I think the ME8 has the best drive pedal sounds of any Boss floor unit ever made. Especially the blues driver. That’s just my opinion though. The effects are dated but serviceable. If you ran one into a newer amp sim box like an iridium or a UA dream, you’d have a wildly versatile set up.
Anyone got the sheet of best settings for this? I found one years ago with great metallica settings and you could get the tuner set to a pedal too. I had it set at 1. Very clean sound no fx 2 metallica 3 chorus 4 oasis distortion sound 5 clean with delay and press bank the tuner came up
Hi there. Great video. Love Boss stuff! Just subscribed. Your buddy Robert Baker sent me here.......now that I'm here, what do I do?........Dude,......... where's your pants?
Man, that is some sick playing! I take it you started your hybrid technique playing country? I think you could dump all that other gear and do it all with the ME-8 and an amp/speaker sim. I don't know whether to go back and mess with my old GT-5 or practice. 😁
Haha yeah, I’m from south Texas so country was one of the basic facts of life. The thought has cross my mind! I like the OD sounds in this unit more than a lot/all of their later stuff, though the plastic needs to be taken care of!
@@christianboddum8783 Yes. I play a GT-100, but after watching this video, I went back to the GT-5 for a bit. I didn't really notice much of a difference and the 100 is so much more versatile. My next unit will probably be one of the smaller ones - GT-1000 Core, HX Stomp XL or the Headrush MX 5. Though I need more than 3 footswitches. I would be all over a GT-1000 Core XL. 🙂
@@jbognap I was thinking of up scaling to a GT-100 around 2017 but made the plunge for a Helix floor, and man I'm glad I did. It would be nice If all that programming could be fitted in a smaller box for some situations though. For me the distance between the switches is Really important for live use, I even find the distance a little too narrow on the Helix, but hey, then it would be too big for normal carry (in a flight case) ;-)
Sounds nice! What are you using as preamp when the board is bypassed? Or does the ME is built in some preamp? I heard a little hot clean and cab simulator
It can make some other enjoyably dumb sounds! I had some little digitech pedal when I was a kid that had a similar but much worse sounding type of thing
On this unit? A good place to start is using the Metal Zone style drive in the distortion block. It’ll pretty much immediately sound like heavy metal as soon as you pull it up.
Thanks for the question! The ME-8 has a metal zone in it which I used for the heavier distorted sounds. For clean sounds I like using the built in compressor and some pitch shift +delay
I got it in a used book store in Japan for like ¥3500 I think. It was a few years ago so I do not remember exactly, but it was a solid deal for all the good drive sounds
Hey, Thank you for the nice review. And wow... your playing is rediculous awesome... only I don't like superfeest shredding metal solos... it sounds hideous
@@cliftonwright7081 thnx sir,😁one thing it's a vintage and i have this one a couple of weeks ago, actually don't have volume/Wah pedals it's okey sir if mix this with another multi effects like mooer GE100? Mooer ge100 equipped with Wah/volume pedal plus 180seconds looper.

I used this one for a little while before I got the BOSS ME-50.

I just purchased one of these after watching this video. Great unit for the money.

Yeah! The analog drives are far-and-away the stars of this unit, I’m still fixing my ME-10. Only 100 more tiny caps to go lol.
Choose gt 5 for minimum gt.. gt 3? Better do not doing that
A mate of mine ran the ME-8 for years from when they first came out. He still has at least 2 of them, maybe 3.
