I was 20 years old in 1992 but I started going out in 1988. Always dreamed of making it to Ibiza but never did. I grew up in Antwerp en I rapidly transitioned from new beat/acid (14 years old), to 80s/90s R&B (there was a Club called Funk You) to House Clubs like Cafe d'Anvers and ultimately Fuse in Brussels. We used to listen to listen to the RADIO and all kids in high school used to tune in to special radio shows that played electronic music and then talk about it the next day at school. Summers were spent with my friends near Jerez de la Frontera at PACHA (foam parties) and Oh Puerto! No drugs contrary to what people think. Mostly getting drunk every night and sleeping on the beach. I even went to Detroit once to meet with Mike Banks at UR since I was making music for DJAX and Bonzai at the time. Good memories. Beautiful yet crazy girlfriend though. Hope she's OK. And like other people say. Almost everybody went to the clubs to DANCE. You talked to your friends at school and met up at the club at night. It is indeed weird why everybody is looking at the DJ booth right now instead of really being there to dance. This I don't get. It feels weird for sure. And yes... no cell phones, social media, internet was just peeping out of its nest and was used only by maybe 5% of the population (I was one of them; had to go to the head office of my bank and they had a room with PCs where you could log on... pre-netscape era I believe). Things changed for sure. I don't believe for the worse or the better. 80s had terrorism (CCC, RAF, IRA, Bende van Nijvel, lots of not so good things going on). I eventually moved to NYC and went to clubs like The Tunnel and the Limelight. But the scene in NY was definitely not at the same level as in Europe. Was it better back then? Human beings tend to see past times through a romantic lens. Nothing wrong with that. I like the quote by Charles Dickens: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” PS: Right now I live in San Francisco and I sometimes go to events at Public Works but it doesn't draw the same crowds as I used to see in Europe. Different vibe. Who knows. Maybe I'll move back to Europe after 30 years in the US. Kids just left for college. Wife is gone. House is sold. I did everything I could. Life is still good. Blessings.

I've been watching a lot of old club footage from "back in the day". I know in the comments that many people keep saying something along the lines of, *"look how happy everyone is without smartphones getting in the way"* . I agree with this sentiment. However, from the footage people still seem to be in little cliques and only interacting and dancing with people they already know it seems. I see a lot of dudes dancing solo and many of the women seem to be taken. Maybe it is not quite the dream that people make it out to be. Still, the old days look great for other reasons.
I was there in '92 and the magic had gone , you could see the money people had started to move in , also the DJs weren't that great , the club's and DJs were better back in the UK.
I have been watching videos of Raves, Goa raves and Ibiza Nights all around 90 to 93 all different events but with the same energy and euphoria. Yesterday, while searching for a documentary about Ibiza, I accidentally came across this video clip that immediately inspired me to create some 90s-style house music, like Snap used to do. I don't know if it's because I grew up with that kind of music, but it seems to me that there was more energy and emotion in the dance music of that time compared to today.
