The Importance of GC FID Maintenance
Вставка

- Flame ionization detectors (FIDs) are one of the most common gas chromatographic (GC) detectors. For best performance, they require some routine inspection and maintenance. We’ll discuss some common symptoms that may indicate a need for maintenance and the essential tasks to keep your FID running its best.

You guys are explaining this so good. I use your video's to show my students about how to troubleshoot!
Wow, thank you!
Like to see how conductivity is cleaned and maintained please.
Thanks
Thanks
Can you help me, the back detector shows temp not installed. And my infront gas (N2) flow rate i set is 45, but the screen show range 51 - 60. Can you help?
Hi
I have the same issue on the FID liquid column, continuous noise on the baseline. I already tried to condition, cleaned with petroleum ether and no result. can you please advise if there any other troubleshooting technique?
Baseline noise can come from a number of sources especially if some contamination might be the cause. This can include the FID but also the column, carrier gas, inlet, etc. It can be very helpful to try to isolate components to determine if contamination is the cause, and if so, find from where that contamination might be coming. No injection instrument blanks are a good way to see if you might have some residual contamination. We talk about these in another video ua-cam.com/video/tpebPhvQERY/v-deo.html
We have another video where we discuss isolating different parts of the instrument ua-cam.com/video/XIRTuso5L-o/v-deo.html
Hey can you do a video about FID heating sensors?
Thank you very much for the suggestion, we will add that one to our list of topics. The heating elements and sensors can be so easily overlooked for FIDs (and inlets too) when troubleshooting.

What is the makeup gas?
I face detector back pressure above 5 lakhs and flame not ignite.. Plz gave me some tips to solve this problem
You will want to confirm your gas flow rates. A typical set of flow rates would be 30mL/min of hydrogen, 400 mL/min of air, and 20 mL/min of makeup gas. However, you should confirm the exact recommendation based on your specific instrument and detector.

Of course, this does assume you're using an Agilent. The basic principles apply, but a lot of the parts you talk about are not there for other manufacturers (Varian/Bruker/Scion does not use any of those organic O rings)
Absolutely, the specifics of FID maintenance will vary across different models and manufacturers of detectors.
Hi.how frequently we need to do it?
Unfortunately, the time frame for FID maintenance can vary. It will depend on operating parameters for your FID as well as the type and frequency of samples analyzed. You can try looking at your baseline when you run a no injection instrument blank periodically to see how the detector is performing. Alternatively, you could open it up on a regular interval, say once a quarter, to perform maintenance. And when you open it the next time, you can estimate if you waited too long or could wait longer for the next maintenance interval.
