Always the dynamic duo, The caped crusader and the boy wonder working together. I do love smelling of food. Being able to wear gourmand fragrances most of the year (because the weather's crap) is one of the few good things about living in the UK.

🦸🏽‍♂️🦸🏼 it’s fun working alongside Kevin. We definitely get each other’s rhythm which makes it a lot of fun to just riff and see what happens😂
And yes, I’m with you Lee, gourmands a perfect for cooler weather 🥰

Hi, can you do a video to understand scent families like animalic, gourmand etc. especially in the context of niche perfumery

    • @GrowingDownUnder
      @GrowingDownUnder Рік тому +3

Fruity - (fruits, coconut is a fruit too but often not considered fruity)
Amber - (resins mainly benzoin/styrax, fir, elemi, frankincense/olibanum, coumarin)
Green - (herbs. leaves, grasses, trees/woods)
Aromatic - (florals & herbs/spices mixed, mainly lights ones though like lavender, cardamom, cypriol oil/papryus.incense)
Leathery - (leathers can smell rubbery, animalic, etc)
Powdery - (not necessarily any defining notes, however musks, cardamom and iris generally smell the most powdery)
Musky - (slightly animalic and powdery, all different musks though some are real animal musks and some are just synthetic compounds)
Alcoholic - (alcohols of all sorts, but a fragrance can smell boozey without alcohol for example some fruits that give off a wine smell grapes, blackcurrants, dark red apple, etc...not to be confused with aldehydes though)
Gourmand - (practically same as gourmet, like food ingredients things that are edible)
Vanilla - (is technically a type of gourmand, but in it's own category since there's vanillin, vanilla bean, vanilla extract/contains alcohol, vanilla orchid flower and plenty of plants that smell like vanilla such as tonka and certain flowers. Vanilla alcohols exist too)
Woody - (woods of all sorts mainly cedar, juniper, guaiac wood, sandalwood, palisander, bamboo, oud, etc..)
Mossy - (it's oakmoss fragrances which can take on certain different smells like sweet, aquatic, green or even fougere/barbershop)
Fougere / barbershop - (typically known as old man fragrances, generally musky, green, aromatic and mossy..the moss creates the fern like smell. Fougere actually means fern like)
Spicy - (differs from aromatic because it can often lack florals and spices can go different directions it can be gourmand such as cinnamon and it can even be powdery such as cardamom spices can be aromatic, but sometimes spicy can be used to describe pimento and peppers too like pink pepper/black pepper. Generally though spices are just called aromatics the word aromatic is interchangeable although aromatic can refer to more than just spices including herbs and florals too. Spicy can be used interchangeable to not actually mean any spices but rather a sensation like I find vetiver and some woods to be quite peppery or spicy)
Aquatic / aqua marine - (smells either like the ocean or like some type of water, it may also be used to just replicate the smell of the beach air...weird thing here is melons and cucumbers are watery and give off an aquatic smell. Salt, oakmoss and seaweed can smell aquatic, typically though synthetic molecules are used to create the aquatic smell such as calone. Although i've noticed bamboo can smell watery too)
Molecular - (these are not usually derived from natural ingredients but made in a lab to either replica the smell of something or create an entirely new smell molecules are like calone, ambroxan, iso e super, cashmeran, sclarene and so many more that exist. Most ambergris and musks are also synthetic molecules because real ambergris is too expensive and some musks are banned in fragrance now so they use synthetic musks)
Floral - (all sorts of flowers, although some other plants/spices can smell floral)
Chypre (citrus, labdanum & oakmoss as the base...so mossy, citrusy, animalic sometimes combined with fougere to also be aromatic & musky)
Smokey - (incense, smoked woods, actual smoke or the smell can also come from being aged in an oak barrel such as how whiskeys get their smokey flavour being aged in oak barrels. Oak can give a smokey smell)
Animalic - (musks, leathers, castoreum, civet, ambergris, oud, etc...animal like smells or compounds)
Oud - (it is technically woody, but it's also animalic due to the wood being infected with a fungus giving it an animalic smell)
Mineralic - smells minerals typically salt is used to give a mineralic smell, but other minerals can be used such as some stones like flint. Sometimes other weird ingredients are used like gunpowder
Metallic - it may not necessarily contains metals, it it may have a metallic type of smell, typically this metallic smell does come from minerals and could be considered mineralic as well.
Aldehydes - these are synthetic molecules, typically made from alcohols hence why they give off a sharp alcohol like smell in the opening of fragrances. They differ from alcohol though since they're made in lab environments they have to be lab made where as alcohols don't
Ozonic - ozone has a smell, but typically the smell comes from thunderstorms. When there's lightning it creates negative ions and as rain hits dirt it also creates a petrichor smell. Negative ions are responsible for the ozonic smell, if you ever have an air purifier in your home they may also be called ionizers or ozone generators they create a strange ozonic smell that I have often referred to as electrical or even metallic smell. Ozonic may just refer to a fragrance being light and airy though smells a bit airy and light. Oxidation of ingredients and electrolysis of water may also have an ozonic smell, sometimes electrolyzed water can smell like chlorine. Chlorine can be used to give an ozonic smell too

    • @GrowingDownUnder
      @GrowingDownUnder Рік тому

@@faddyie I think a video is still a good idea to talk about each category more can discuss the types of fruits like even the fruits have categorie ranging from tropical all the way to something so unique and strange like maninka fruit which is used in boss the scent fragrances. There's also dried fruits that smell more like raisins, the dried fruits usually aren't considered fruity though but typically used in more gourmand style fragrances like tom ford tobacco vanille. That reminds me actually I completely forgot the tobacco category oops, but tobacco can have many different smells whether it's used in sweet fragrances such as naxos where they add honey or tobacco can often smell woody if it's used with ouds and woods it adds a dusty/dry grassy smell almost like hay. The tobacco category is also quite big there's a lot of different tobacco style fragrances whether it's tobacco+vanilla..tobacco+wood...tobacco+spices..tobacco+florals (such as burberry london & versace the dreamer)..and surprisingly fresh like D&G the one, joop homme ice, issey miyake l'eau d'issey...or tobacco+fruity such as kajal fiddah, aswan widian, mr harrod by penhaligon and armani prive bleu lazuli

Hey Marcelo and Kev, dynamic duo. You guys will be in Milan next week, so you should be able try Colomba di Pascua. It's sort of easter "Panettone". I'm dig Panettone and traditionally I get mine directly from Verona for the season.
I have a relative big batch of samples incoming from Jovoy next week. Including several Sora Dora and Jovoy samples.
Enjoy Milan!! Sadly I'm stuck at work the whole next week, so no Fueguia.
    Ps. A&S Nabiti rules!!!!

Hey Kimmo, to say that maybe I have already indulged in a Colomba…Might be an understatement😬 (I actually bought one in Firenze that had won the award for the best in the country… Forget about it!)
Unfortunately, my wingman couldn’t make it Esxence this year. However, we will be in France in September and October, you should join us😎

Panettone had just a bit too much cinnamon for me or I would have bought a bottle. I tried Fire at Will on a test strip, but not on skin......I will re visit that. That Paris Cherie has my attention, I've not heard of that and am going straight away to investigate more, even though here in the northern hemisphere we are heading into the warmer weather (eventually, only going to be 43 degrees today). Thanks for the great review!!

I wouldn't call Sand Dance a gourmand? Maybe in the opening it has some vibes of it (of Black Phantom by Kilian), but it's more-so dry-woody and ambry like Xerjoff's Amber Star to me. I've smelled two Astrophil & Stella fragrances, and they're pretty meh. That fig-gourmand sounds SUPER INTERESTING - it's so hard to find a unique scent nowadays, especially a unique gourmand. Panettone to me fits a candle more than it does a perfume.
My gourmand all-star lineup: Royal Crown "Sultan", Atelier des Ors "Lune Feline Extrait", Roja Parfums "Sweetie Aoud", Kilian "Black Phantom", and Kilian "Intoxicated". I don't really consider it that much of a gourmand, but Nishane's "Tero" has some unique facets along the salted caramel.

@TheNicheFragranceCollector I believe Roja Dove is the greatest perfumer. He is a true master in my opinion. Sweetie Aoud isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I think it's an outstanding fragrance. Perfectly blended unique bomb, just like many Roja Parfums fragrances. Keep up the great content, I'm a fan.
