Toro GM1000 vs. Reel Rollers Revolution 26 Hill Test

  • Of course, we are comparing apples to oranges here. Greensmowers are meant to cut flat, non hilly yards and greens. But how much safer is a rubber rear roller compared to a greensmower metal roller? Let me know what you think.
    Hopefully this helps in your search for the perfect reel mower for your yard. In my case, it was a big upsell due to the hills I face!

    My front lawn is as steep,however,the side isn't. The degree of cutting difficulty comes into focus,hence, my purchase. Great vid!

    Great showcase. For anyone with a greens mower in this situation, one wrap of 3M anti-slip grip tape on each rear drum really helps my JD 180C hold traction on slopes.

    Nice showcase. This spring I picked up a used 20" McLane mower to start reeling my Bermuda here in GA. Already tired of it and want a Revolution 26 LOL. Just need to find the bag of money buried in my backyard.

    This makes me feel less anxiety since my front has such a steep hill 😂

    Great content. Do you plan on reviewing the California Trimmer catalyst?

      When it comes out physically I would love to! Would be a great side by side comparison. Biggest difference I know (besides cartridge system) is the catalyst is belt driven. Rev26 is chain. Belts in the past have driven me crazy, but maybe they have perfected it in some way on the new releases. Can’t wait to see it in person!

    On the RR can you engage the reel and just let yourself walk at your own pace downhill? It looked like it was pulling great up the hill but also pulling a little fast down the hill?

    • @TheLawnDad
      @TheLawnDad  7 місяців тому

      Yes. It will govern itself based on the throttle speed. Definitely a great feature! That is a quick steep hill so I don’t know if I could walk any slower down HA. Definitely a tricky spot in my yard

    Hi TJ,
    I’m a contractor in south Florida. We build custom homes and lawn care has been something I’ve overlooked. We just lay down st.Augustine grass and I got no clue how to maintain. I want to be hands on my properties lawn maintenance. Any tips I can incorporate or should I switch sod?

    In watching the comparison i have a concern with the reel roller lever to engage the reel being plastic and very thin vs. the greens mower seems more durable. I own an allett liberty and it also has a thin plastic lever and have had issues. Im not an expert but may be an opportunity to improve design with next generation to be more durable like the toro greens mower lever.

    • @TheLawnDad
      @TheLawnDad  7 місяців тому

      It’s thicker than I can show in a clip. Definitely more of a sturdy feeling than just “plastic”. But understandable on the concern. Greens mowers will always be more commercially built than a “homeowner” mower! But yes. Nothing beats it!

    Cool look at this uphill challenge.
    My eyes suck and small phone screen doesnt help, but were you cutting grass with either when you when up/down the hill?

    • @TheLawnDad
      @TheLawnDad  7 місяців тому

      No this was strictly just showing them with reels off to be as “fair” as I could. 6 blade vs a 9 blade would have thrown it even more ha

      @TheLawnDad ah, you're right. I think blade count would've been a factor. Thanks, man. Where in Texas are you? I'm in north Austin.

    These mowers have two different design models. The GM is a greens mower used in a residential application and the RR is built for the homeowner not the daily mowing of greens. Not to say one is better, just difficult to compare.

    How does it handle mowing the hill side to side? That’s where I get most of my slides. Just tried a pre scalp with my GM from the side and I could not get on the hill from the fishtailing. Wondering how the ribs on the rubber roller would help.

    • @TheLawnDad
      @TheLawnDad  7 місяців тому +1

      Excellent. It’s also a balanced mower (they literally balanced it on the edge of a 2x4 when building) so one side doesn’t dig in further than the other side. Or it has a better chance of “not”. Also no fishtailing at all. With the heavy grooved roller up front and the rubber drum, it’s easy peasy.

      @@TheLawnDad Right, I’ve used the Rev going up hill and down but never side to side. My fishtailing is at the rear due to the slick drum on my GM. I’m hoping when my Rev finally ships itll cut down on the slide. Great videos though, keep em coming. You’re going to make us pre-purchasers charter a boat to go get our mowers ourselves!!!It’s mowing season, we’re ready!!!
