Going way back in my days (79/84), I actually auditioned on demo tape to Solid Gold Records in Toronto for the band Toronto. They had lost their lead guitarists and were looking for a replacement at the time. After hearing this news announcement, I made up a demo for them demonstrating different skills and styles. The CEO for SGR a month later when I did as follow up asked if they could keep my demo but informed me that Annie "Holly" Elizabeth Woods lead vocals for the band Toronto asked one of their friends to fill in since he had left a previous band at the time. So I lost out but was happy that SGR kept my demo for potential other bands looking for lead players. My band played a lot of cover songs by them like, 'Get it on Credit' ,'Start Telling The Truth', and 'Your Daddy Don't Know'. Fun times. 🎶🎸🎵
Gawd damn I love old music...I saw all these acts like Anne (Holly) Woods, the Wilson sisters, Kenny Shields, you name 'em, live in the bar scene...no auto-tune, Bias, Mark II, no processing...just in your face live, warts and all...and it f*ckin' rocked...real singers and real musicians...
I seen an outdoor music fest in the eighties! Edmonton commonwealth stadium 😎🤘Toronto! Headpins! Darby Rocked like the ladies in Toronto! Singin their butts off! Ted Nugent! Lover boy! Blue Oyster Cult! Heart 💜! Etc! Once in a lifetime! Thought I’d share! Changed my life! Bought a guitar and the rest is HISTORY! ROCK ON MI AMIGOS ✌️😎🤘🎵🎸🎶🙏😇🙏💫🚀
Holly Woods is a legend. Heart and the Wilson sisters got more that one chart-topper from her. Their place in rock and roll history is obscure but very very important! Much Love!
This was the last Toronto album to feature original members Nick Costello and Jim Fox respectively, for their 1982 follow-up ("Get It on Credit"), they were replaced by Gary LaLonde (later of Honeymoon Suite) and Barry Connors (Coney Hatch).
Can't find the track 'Blackmail' from this same CD anywhere. It's arguably one of the best tracks on it. Must be some copyright bullshit. So sad that this band was so short-lived. A tragedy really. For as much as I am so grateful for the music they produced while they were together, we have no idea of what might have been.
From what I heard, Brian and Sheron left because What About Love wasn't put on the Get it On credit Album. That somewhat makes sense, but then why release another album and tour after that? Technically they released 2 albums. Then Holly went with Scott Kreyer (original keyboard player) and Mike Gingrich (bassist on Girls Night Out) and released an album Assault and Flattery. It was great and got radio play. They toured as Holy Woods and Toronto but only did a few dates before the record company pulled the plug on the tour and recalled albums from stores. All because they were bankrupt. I was lucky that I did get to see a show on that tour. I still have the t-shirt. Holly and Scott had written some other songs (in Atlanta I believe) and recorded them but their producer passed away and the tapes were missing for many years. They came out in 2007 (I think) with the album after working on it again. That was Live It Up. Good stuff. I saw Holly Woods and Toronto last night. Barry Connors is playing drums again which is great. However, Scott Kreyer isn't on keys anymore. I missed him. Her band is great though. She sounded amazing.....and she's 64.
There should be no issue with copyright infringement, I wrote the song Blackmail and I can't figure out why you can't find it. I will try and post it on here for you if I can. Holly...
@@annewoods7542 that would be amazing. Thank you for all the music over the years. Your voice was always one of the best in the industry. I've always classed you on a par with Anne Wilson. Two of the greatest ladies of Rock, Canadian or otherwise. Much love from this old sailor. ❤
Holly one of the best rock singers of her era .... period ..... and for me ....born and raised in Toronto ....

Sounds like we're the same age. I loved this album. I was 15. I'm 60 now. Still sounds great.

The difference is that Anne Wilson can still sing, whereas Holly cannot.
Gave this song a chance. Glad I did. This is a great song. Love this band.
