  • Replacing 3 of the 5 electrolytic capacitors on my two Husqvarna Viking Rose Type 600 Sewing Machines returned both of them to service. It was my intention to replace all 5 capacitors, but I ordered the wrong temperature and voltage on two of them.
I don’t have the service manual so I cannot tell you if the 10uf capacitor is supposed to have positive power on both sides or if it is an indication that something else has failed and maybe this is short term. After 8 months of use the sewing machines are still going strong.
If I ever have to open them up again I will replace all 5 capacitors.
Thanks to Hector Guerra for his Viking Designer SE model youtube video. The rose is a clear 10 years older in design than the Designer SE which was announced in 2007… who would have thought it would be the same fix. • Husqvarna Viking Desig...
If you are uncomfortable with electronics, soldering or disassembly / assembly operations you may find a sewing machine shop that will do such work. If you cannot find one that does component repair, if you took the board to a TV repair shop they would likely take on the capacitor replacement for you… knowing they cannot provide any guarantees. Make sure you compare that estimated price to any rebuilt or “new” control boards you can find on the market.

Thanks I used your video to help take the covers off for cleaning. But.. I'm bummed that the machine will eventually fail due to the capacitors. I'm meh with soldering but I'll use your video when the time comes. Thanks bud
Update it looks like opening up the case caused something to go funky. My screen now isn't complete and some digits are not complete. Hopefully capacitor fix will work. I'm shopping now.

Great video. I specialize in 1980s-early 2000s computerized Pfaff machines, many which are very similar to the Viking model in this video. Up until around when Viking purchased Pfaff in 2000, Pfaff provided qualified dealers with motherboard refurbishing kits, including all new caps, which I believe were all aluminum electrolytic as opposed to the original tantalum capacitors. I also think Pfaff manufacturing switched to all aluminum caps at some point, because all of the late-1990s to mid-2000s machines I've worked on, I don't recall ever seeing one tantalum cap in a machine.
Capacitor technology has come a long way in the past few decades so I think using all aluminum electrolytics would be okay, and because modern electrolytic caps are often much smaller in size, it solves clearance issues, even when having to use axials in place of radials.
    Just my two cents.

Thanks for that input. It should give others some confidence that they may have some success with a cap replacement. Kind of interesting. Sending new caps in a returb was kind of a blind replacement too... figuring it had a good chance of fixing the problem.

My Viking 535 was opened for cleaning and was working great. On reassembly the screen is now funky. I have for instance certain characters that aren't complete. I also can't select the stitch pattern. The sewing machine works for straight stiches but the screen is hard to interpret. Any idea if capacitor problem here? I'm assuming yours went completely dark and then replacing the caps solved your issue.

I looked back at my photos. The LCD appears to be solder on so it is not a pressure contact that needs cleaning. They keyboard is a ribbon cable so check that is seated... but since you have the two problems I would go back and closely inspect your solder joints. Make sure you do not have any solder that carried over to another contact... for instance when a capacitor trace is really close to the capacitor joint. Also visually recheck your capacitor polarity and that your connections look good. Without seeing it there obviously is difficulty. The LCD would be IC driven so ether a circuit is shorted / incomplete or there is a voltage variance would be my guess. And as always with such problems we hope that whatever caused it did not contribute to some damage. Good Luck with your task.

Thanks! I didn't touch the board yet so I doubt it's a cross trace etc. worth a shot to solder in the three capacitors you performed since I have nothing to lose. Appreciate the great video. I'll update you if it worked.

Darn it didnt work. Capacitors were replaced and the screen is still the same. Replacement board is the only option. Argh and none available on ebay etc. At least itll do straight stiches for now.

    Hi,
My Viking rose 600 got damage on the flex connector cable (No:336.97).
How can I to fix it?
    Please aide me!

    • @alwaystinkering6972
      @alwaystinkering6972  Рік тому

I am not familiar with what that cable might be. Most of the cables are made of some form of regular wire of large enough to see size (LCD ribbon cable excluded).
I don't know how close the damage is to a connector. You could make an attempt to mend it with new wire. Perhaps look to see if you have a local electronics shop that could take on the task.
Watch listings. There are many posted from time to time as parts machines in local listings and national.
      Best of luck.

I’ve the same machine as this one ,which I’ve purchase in 1998. My LCD display looks fine. Foot pedal is not helping to move the machine, even though foot pedal is good. I took it to a local repair some times ago and could not check right away whether it would work, due to some family emergency. They have said to my husband ,that they have replace a sensor for the problem. Like to have some word of knowledge from you, thanks in advance .

As an owner I have no idea. That being said you can see there is not much inside. The single control board, the power supply, sensors and the motors. Do all the stitch buttons work and do they trigger the foot to move? So I looked at some pictures. The power supply had no serviceable parts.
The foot pedal went to the power supply. There were a couple of voltages running on the board. It looks like the motor connects to the bottom left of the board and that there are dedicated legs coming from the power supply to the motor connector. Let’s hope it’s not the power supply. It could be a capacitor dedicated to the motor control… or a transistor.
If it turns but won’t rev up it could be the speed controller sensor is dirty. I don’t see any other separate motor controls for the shaft motor. The main board seams to provide the control. I don’t think the motor speed control would run off the main power supply because that would require the speed sensor and chips that read it to send data back to the power supply for it to alter the speed. I guess if the motor runs but lacks turning the main belt could be in play too. I lost the voltages I found on the capacitors. See if they are close (it would likely be one of the bottom 3). Also check the belt and do a visual that all the connections look to be in place.

@@alwaystinkering6972 Thank you so much for your quick response. Once more I’m taking it to a repair shop. Little hope with that, however I’m going to study more from your video about the process of repairing it.

Hi I have the same problem with my mom’s machine, I ordered the capacitors that you changed. Also the needle vibrates do you have any idea what could be causing that? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Wait until you change the capacitors. It could be related. One of the two had the blank screen and a motor vibrating. After the replacement that symptom went away.

@@KevinBiju007 the effort and time is in taking apart and finding the right parts. Obviously I had success without all of them. If I had them I would have replaced them. I have since purchased a cheap component identifier that takes a swag a capacitor specs. Unfortunately i got it just after I disposed of the old parts so I cannot tell you if would see any issues. The problem for us is it could be out of spec just a little and we novices may not know the difference... hence the blind replacement. If you can find them and they fit then yes. Here is a video on the tester. m.ua-cam.com/video/7Br3L1B80ow/v-deo.html you can find them from all the regular online sellers under 20 dollars domestically in a case. It’s a lazy tool to translate resistor and capacitor ratings if nothing else.

Husqvarna has always used the cheapest brand of capacitors known to mankind... Yet they will charge Thousands of dollars for mediocre equipment
