UA-cam's ad choice is strange. Their ads are contradictory to the content in the video. For example, on debunking videos I get ads about 5G conspiracies and I get ads from fossil fuel companies on videos about climate change. I don't know why UA-cam's choice of ads are so contradictory.
@@northernskies86 It’s the algorithm that selects the ads is pooling all related terms to the video title (I.e climate change, oil, global warming, petrol / 5G, radio towers, radiation, conspiracy theory) and is failing to filter out the good ads from all the shit. Or it’s actually completely pre determined by UA-cam and the powers that be behind the corporate behemoth that is Google. With how the world is right now, I don’t know which one is true anymore
Daily remainder that 100 companies are responsable for 71% of all carbon emission, and as long as those companies can buy their way into congress, nothing will change
These companies serve people, with necessities. Stop them and you'll just have now 71% of the people without energy - in other words, people in Middle Ages. Simple to understand, not to solve.
Ok so I'm going to guess that they're a few oil companies in that top 100. You can't run a modern economy without oil, including the feeding the population part. Without oil you have one modern agriculture and the vast majority of people starves. Is that a viable solution? Saying things like "but the top 100 companies" is counter productive because it's too big, ill-defined and you can't disentangle the parts we could make positive change from the parts we need to live.
it may sound morbid, but the covid-19 crisis... kinda (numbers not very much not so clear) helped the number to stop growing for a while.. The shit still rising up and the effects the constant pumping of co2 have started to show, (which in effect, it also gave some motivation to some companies, not great but better late than ever i guess.) but yes, as morbid as it sound, the pandemic gave us just a bit of time. . Two new variants called "lambda" and the stupid but cleverly named "Delta plus" just showed up in the world, which that it still could help us in some way despite still being a tragedy.. But that doesn't mean that we need to depend on these virus to take the people out, we still need to act out before the population starts rising up again (which, yeah it will rise up sooner or later.) and pressure the companies to act faster..
@@Opossum_queenSo we get a bad thing like the pandemic, and we get more time to solve a bigger problem, climate change, cool I’m up for that if it means I don’t have to be in constant 90 degree weather in California’s desert like areas.

@@Opossum_queenYes, if we can keep the pandemic at bay and prevent contagion/deaths, it could be seen as a good thing or at least a delay when climate change is brought in.
@@CSR_mufc Exactly. But its not really the amount of kids that are being born. Birth rates are actually declining. The problem is that people are living longer lives because of the new and improved health care systems. People are living (and wanting to live) longer. And, I'm sorry, but this is greedy. Taking resources away from the younger generation so older ones can live is crude and stupid.
As a biomedical researcher I have recently read about research which tries to combat plastic waste pollution through directed evolution. Directed evolution is a process where proteins are changed in the laboratory over and over again to become much more efficient to do certain things. In this case, scientists are trying to make PET-digesting enzymes more effective in digesting plastic waste and they are actually quite successful (I'm planning a video about that if you are interested). Although this is only a tiny part of the overall solution, I think that innovative research might save us from the current climate change crisis!
Yeah i read that too. This might be more of a curse than a blessing however. Plastics are used extremely commonly exactly because it does not get degraded by bacteria. If this would not be the case plastic might become far less useful, imagine your computer or telephone falling apart and those are just small things. It might not be smart playing god with evolution.
Maybe the first thing is to innovate and change our ways we get and spend energy , then we can proceed to other ones or both but you know even making people aware of it is already hard enough what more if we talk about these?
Three things I'd like to hear more about: Electric car batteries: Any signs of drastic improvement upcoming? And their total impact on the environment compared to gas/diesel (I know it's hard to compare). Potential new fission reactor designs, like thorium reactors. (I know you did a 3-video series on fission reactors, but it was 5 years ago; has anything new developed?) Carbon taxes; how would they work, and how could we keep the system from being abused?
Yes. The guy who invented the lithium-ion battery has invented the solid state battery at an old age. Their life time is like 10x longer than current rechargeable batteries, and can hold more charge.
Tesla announced new battery manufacturing that makes them cheaper to produce and more energy dense. I think its roughly a 25% upgrade so quite significant.
there is this machine called iter that is being build by various nations, but it is not fission but fusion, they say it is going to be done in the 30s but i think it will take longer...

If all the sane people took a stand and protested, by not giving these rich assholes anymore money, then we would be on our way to solve the problem. @@bohdankim381 uhhh, it's not as simple as just boycotting buddy. Whole systems are based on infrastructures with enormous carbon emissions, and boycotting (putting aside how unrealistic a goal that is) sadly won't help with that.
I want to point out that when people find ways to use energy more efficiently it often leads to throwing out older, less energy-efficient products. Both the manufacture of the new products and the transportation of the older products are carbon-intensive. A huge carbon expense that needs to be addressed is that of product processing. If I went to the store and bought canned fruit, they often say that they're grown in a South American country, but packaged in an East Asian country (usually China). Let's say they're from Venezuela - they go over 25000 miles, and over 3 months on the ship. It'd be FAR more efficient in terms of fuel and carbon to pack them in a nearby area.
It's complicated, when someone specialises in say, canning food, they might get very efficient and even with transportation, their carbon print is still smaller.

If Covid taught us one thing, it’s that when the world directs its focus and resources to a solution, you can come up with an amazing solution like the vaccine in a short amount of time. Imagine what we could do if we put the same energy into other issues. We can do this! We just have to care enough and pour our hearts into it and we will shock ourselves at our own potential
Since covid, there have been more conflicts whether geopolitical, political or social rather than cooperation. It was because of the motivation of profit that the vaccine appeared so fast and so far fighting climate change has been the opposite of being profitable.
Feels like part of the reason we've been dragging our feet on phasing out fossil fuels and switching to low carbon alternatives is because this topic is SO politicized... how do you get around that? I know so, so many people who scoff at the idea of things like nuclear and solar energy merely because they arent fossil fuels. Its disheartening that a conversation cant even be had because of political dogma
People scoff at Nuclear power mostly because of Fukushima and Chernobyl. But modern nuclear reactors are very safe but countries like Japan are phasing them out due to public disaproval of Nuclear power
Ironically, fossil fuels contain trace amounts of radioactive particles (because everything does) and when you burn it, these particles go strait up the chimney and out into the atmosphere. A coal/gas plant dumps more radioactive fallout into its surrounding environment in a week that a modern nuclear reactor of comparable output does in its entire commissioned life.
Politicized? I haven't really heard that many opinions from ordinary citizens talking about explicitly _wanting_ fossil fuel power generation. I guess you might mean that stakeholders hold a lot of power politically. But that seems to be a more capitalistic issue. If the issue were any more politicized I have a feeling it would be in the form of holding more politician accountable for hurtful policies that favor the FF industry
It seems like the huge media companies and politicians paid for by oil companies have successfully brain washed them into thinking that this is a political problem rather than an environmental crisis that can easily wipe out humanity and halt their progress.
More like not preparing for the final exams, when the final exams come, we will be like "oh shit..". I guess we will just get wiped out in horrifying ways.

Someone (i forget who) said that we were learning about the rainforests being cut down and climate change at school... so why hasn't anything been done about it? I kinda find it hard to argue. I was being taught about the effects of climate change in the 90's and how we would need to do X,Y & Z. nearly 30 years on and we still need to do X,Y & Z. I'm not sure the ones in power want to change and I feel sorry for the generations below mine, they'll have to clear up the mess the generations above leave behind.
Idk know what X, Y, and Z are, but I do know that most ways people have come up with for solving climate change are too ham-fisted. We can not change our methods of transportation and power generation in a day nor in generations. Hell, we still can't generate green power efficiently. Solar only gets 1% of the energy it absorbs turned into power, Hydro (which one would think would be easy to implement) can cause massive ecological damage (and isn't that what we are trying to solve at the end of the day?), Wind can't generate enough power to effectively replace our current system, and Nuclear scares the hell out of people and still develops waste that is radioactive (which causes ecological damage). Personally, I believe that if we invest into making new technology to solve the problem. For example, our batteries store next to no energy for what seems like no length of time. If we made a battery the size of a Phone battery that could last a year we would be able to half our need for fossil fuels. Also if we made ways of generating nuclear power that eats its own waste so that we do not need to worry about the radioactive waste (because it is another process's fuel). I do agree we can right now do things better, but isn't that true for everything? And haven't we done lots better today than 30 years ago? We have moved from coal to natural gas which has slashed our emissions by a load. We have an active effort to reuse and recycle things rather than just throwing them away. So in short, I think you are cutting humanity short on how well we have done with climate change, which while not the best and is still a problem, is notably less than it was 30 years ago.
meanwhile in Australia: current prime minister holds lump of coal in parliament shouting "It's coal! it can't hurt ya!" recently followed up with "gas will be the transition fuel!" yeah.. we're didgeridoomed.
...I know this is terrible and all, but didgeridoomed is hilarious. One of our USA senators brought snow into congress once in 2015 as proof there's no climate change. Even so, there are some changes happening, and while they are slow, I think we still have some kind of a chance. Hope you're doing good.
I’m lucky I live inland and by lakes, but I’ve noticed the amount of snowfall is decreasing, there’s more flash storms, and of course, it’s getting hotter.
As a human living slightly north of you (Singapore but Malaysia gets it even worse), we’d appreciate it if you (or rather farmers in your country) would stop burning forests every other year, because then the heat isn’t the biggest problem.
Old people are too senile to see that far into the future. They can only see death in the near future and do their best to live in luxury in the time they have right now. Old people in positions of power are mostly like this.
The fact everyone is so hopeless actually gives me hope because it shows people actually care Is good to know so many people haven't given up yet, we can still make a change
Most people absolutely do not care. Like, not at all. This comment section is heavily biased by self-selection, those who decided to watch the video and to comment are far more likely to care than the average person.
Wrong the only people who care are the ones who are more involved with things, you wouldn't easily find somebody who doesn't care because they don't show it and they aren't too involved with this stuff
i am some1 that doesnt believe all the hype. Think the measures taken to "combat" GLOBAL warming (o wait) climate change, are insane and completely out of proportions in my country. Politicians like this whole fearmongering more than there is an actual cause for this "crisis". Same with covid-19 , acid rain, BSE etc etc..

I remember Elon musk said something on the Joe Rogan podcast that stuck with me. Somewhere along the lines of "We'll be able to slow climate change, but we can't have that mindset otherwise we won't try"
The sad part is, most of those in power who actually CAN make critical steps towards stopping climate change, aren’t doing that. Instead, they’re looking for more ways to make themselves richer
They would rather spend time finding ways to debunk/argue with us instead of trying to help themselves and others do it. That is the definition of procrastination.

Bees and butterflies are in a lot of trouble. If you dig up some lawn in a sunny area and replace with flowers that would help them a lot. I recommend butterfly bush, butterfly weed, swamp milkweed, coneflower, black eyed Susan, zinnias, yarrow, sedum, spirea, fennel, dill, and parsley. A year ago, I put in a 50 gallon preformed pond ($50 at Menards) and put in a few pond plants (water lily, water iris, and water lettuce). It has attracted birds, frogs, lizards, and dragonflies. No pump or filter is needed. I do have to bail out mosquitoes larva, but that is quick and easy. If you buy seeds for birdhouse gourds you can grow and make your own birdhouses. Just punch a hole for the birds to get in and shake out the seeds, punch some small drainage holes at the bottom, and punch holes at the top to run wire or string through to hang. If you have a chain link fence in a sunny area, I recommend growing trailing blackberries. You can buy one plant and the root system will spread and you will have several more plants in two years. The bees love the flowers.

@@spillarge at least in Arizona, there is an incentive to use solar power. You’re able to install them for free for outdated meters and your energy bill goes way down. As far as electric cars, you don’t have to pay for gas or anything like that. It’s also a sociological problem, but people don’t like nuclear power just because of things like Chernobyl, 3 mile island and Fukushima. More stable nuclear power is available in the form of isotopes like thorium, and the move away from uranium and plutonium is possible. It’s all cheaper than the alternative with fossil fuels, just not incentivized.
It’s sad to think that most people who watched this video, already understand and agree with the facts here. Unfortunately, the people who don’t understand will never find this video or simply disregard it.
Most people in power understand this to be true, but simply don’t care. China has a totalitarian government and could easily switch to a carbon neutral economy in a decade if they so desired. But their attitude is basically “it’s our turn to pollute the earth because you did it first.”
I disagree. These guys present things in a pretty non-biased and neutral way, so those who are willing at ALL to think about issues may very well change their minds. It's what happened to me. I initially disagreed with the points in the UBI video and Meat videos, but those videos made me want to do a bit more research, and I have since changed my mind. If there's ANY channel out there to change minds, it'd be this one.
Don't worry, they'll be the first to die off, once their kind goes extinct, the smart ones can live on and pass on their care for the world to the following generations. Although I would not be surprised if we do all die off.
lion the they do this for a reason they aready control most of our life u think their dumb enough to let them self die they are later slowly gonna have their own evil plan to make huge bucks and we be the users like just rn
As individuals, we could do some simple sacrifices to contribute to a lower green house gases emission such as reducing our meat diet, specially caw meat because of the amount of energy it requieres to keep those animals and trasport their resources, avoiding having pets, not having kids and avoiding buying unecessary things by impulse. Of course some of those alternatives are just too taugh for some people, but we could be getting used to them gradually, I guess.
I think when people ask if it's too late they are wondering if it really matters what we still could do, or if tipping points (permafrost, fires, amount of clouds reflecting heat back to earth...) are already beyond the point of no return and catastrophe is unavoidable. I hope that gets answered in the coming episodes.
Would like to know more about nuclear energy: risk, cost of construction, cost of operation, energy effective?, how much can use energy from one nuclear power-plant, in comparison to other types of renewable and non-renewable resources, and why is it not widely used/why are there not more? If you guys could do a environment vs economy video, like this one, on nuclear power-plants that would not only clarify myths but create a reassurance in the safety of nuclear power that often times is made out to be a scary and dangerous thing.
I mean overall nuclear energy is one of the best alternatives we have going on at the moment, it is more expensive than coal or oil but in current days risk is almost a non factor. Artificial intelligence assistants running the plants and safety protocols, updated security measures. Overall the biggest reason we aren't using it is because of A) Making Nuclear Warheads and B) Big Oil would rather get more money destroying the world instead of creating a diverse investment portfolio. Honestly the ability of humans to seek destruction never ceases to amaze me, but we can always hope for a greener and brighter future
Agreed. Everyone should know about on how we can reduce carbon emissions! The first step I would suggest however is UNITY. If we can get everyone to work together and take action, perhaps we could finally solve this problem.
@Burn#Loot#Murder BLM lol USA is no different. It doesn't care either. Developed countries are equally responsible if not more. Just watch Kurzgesagt video on who is responsible for most climate change.
I would like to address a misconception about the safety of nuclear power plants. Many people believe they are unsafe and dangerous. Nuclear power generation causes thousands of times fewer deaths than coal and oil do. Nuclear accidents are nigh on impossible now due to the strict regulations implemented after the previous nuclear disasters. Even when an accident occurs, fewer people die than you may think. Chernobyl death estimates range from just a few hundred to about 60,000 at the most. Fukushima killed one person from radiation exposure. Compare this to global annual flu deaths which the WHO estimates at 250 000 - 500 000. Nuclear power is extremely safe and, I believe, necessary to our goal of reaching carbon neutrality. Edit: oh yeah and do check out Kurzgesagt's awesome series on nuclear power 😂
People don't want to fight climate change. In my small village (150 residents) a solar farm was planned. It should have been located on an unused strip of land directly at the highway. It was expected to tripple the villages budget due to taxes. But as soon as these plans were revealed a group of people brought the whole village to fight against it. Now we still have a huge strip of land directly at the highway that nobody will ever use or look at, the small school will be closed and the 40 year old fire engine won't be replaced any time soon.
M8 millions of people want to stop it but stupid people who don't believe in it or believe its not doing anything won't allow it. And the government knows that but they side with the stupid people.
You should fight unnecessary legislation, so a private person can buy that "useless" patch of land and build a solar plant, or whatever he likes. He would, of course, more likely build a nuclear plant. But then, people would protest.

Fun contradicting fact: Burning waste in facilities designed for it actually reduces carbon emissions indirectly. Think of it this way. There are a few reasons for this, first they have special filters in the chimneys to remove all that nasty SO2, NO2, NO and other greenhouse gases that have a much greater impact on global warming. Another thing is that these plants can and should be designed for energy reclaim, meaning they save some energy we would normally waste when we just yeet the "garbage" on to a landfill, therefore reducing the need for burning coal or gas. Furthermore, the waste we throw on landfills gets decomposed and turned into CH4 which is also a much higher impact greenhouse gas and even though you can put pipes to collect it, much of it is wasted before a high enough concentration is achieved to be viable enough for use. This means they let the natural gas(CH4) escape through the pipes in the atmosphere for the first few months before they get to those sweeet few months for use in power generation and then again letting it loose. Source: I finished my bachelor in Environmental Engineering in Zagreb, Croatia. Hope you enjoyed ;D Edit: I hope I am not the only one that writes bacchelor with 2 c's in it... 6:08 I would really love it if you could do a video on the Passivhaus standard. Most modern insulation has really limited effectiveness owing to air loss and conduction in the building's structure, and so heating and air conditioning are some of the most massive wastages our society has at the moment. I firmly believe that shifting new builds to passivhaus design is the most impactful and easily achievable improvement our society can make. By building its structure around the insulation, almost any building can be designed to regulate it's own temperature using only a tiny energy budget, considerably less than a couple of solar panels would provide. The only problem with passivhaus is that it tends to be done on a relatively small scale, but educating people about it, particularly architects, engineers and governments, could really help change that. Sorry for the slight ramble/sales pitch. I'm not associated with any company but I love your videos and I think they could make a real difference.
One concern that I hope new tech has overcome: back in the 80s and 90s, we did start making houses more airtight to reduce energy wastage due to leaks. The problem that then popped up was Sick Building Syndrome. Essentially, nasty molds started growing in houses and buildings due to a lack of outside airflow. So a quick question: does this "Passivhaus Standard" address that issue?
@@thatjeff7550 I looked this up, and was fascinated to learn that this Passivhaus method, when done correctly, allows fresh air to circulate through the house without significant loss of heat.

Until we get those batteries, can we just give nuclear power the greenlight to take a majority of the load of energy production? Like it's not as bad as most people think, and they last longer than solar panels. Thorium based reactors are supposedly even better and safer. It greatly upsets me that when people talk about climate change they usually leave out nuclear power, which is an obvious solution.
Nuclear is expensive and time consuming to construct. Financially, it takes a long time to see profit from the investment. Investors naturally want to make money now, not 15 years from now. It's sad, but you can build 3 three natural gas power plants for the same cost, and since carbon tax isn't a thing, the company will profit much more quickly.
Yes nuclear is safe. More people died from the storm that caused the Fukushima incident than the nuclear plant failing. Actually no one died from the nuclear plant at all. Nuclear fission is a fantastic source of energy while we work on better ones.
"We can leave nuclear power plants online longer." THANK YOU, finally a concise and absolutely correct statement on this topic. Now (german) politicians still need to accept this finally as not an option, but a must-do asap.
How about building newer, better ones also? Current nuclear plants are 50 year old technology and they still outperform any other form of energy production.
Nuclear power plants are the better solution as long as no one explodes. And even if you are lucky and no one explodes you have the toxic waste for million years. Thats incredible. So we have to accept that both technologies are just not sustainable and both have such big disadvantages that they should be abolished.
@@smarty1312 nuclear waste is minuscule compared to the waste generated by all other means of energy production INCLUDING solar and wind which generate a ton of dangerous waste during their manufacturing process. Plus the nuclear waste can be reused. Of-course with diminishing returns but with more funds put into nuclear energy means more research which means more and more of the fuel gets used meaning the nuclear waste becomes less harmful every time. I mean theoretically you could reduce nuclear waste to hydrogen by splitting an atom to the smallest possible thing but of-course every time it gets smaller the more energy it takes to split it and the less energy to get out of it but still.

i wish people would get over there fear of nuclear power, because of poorly designed early plants, because nuclear power is by far the best compared to renewables which are not as clean as you would think and ofc fossil fuels.. france has i thnk 70-80% of its power come from nuclear.. germany has around the same ratio but with renewables, ultimately focusing all this attention on wind and solar is completley pointless in my opinion because nuclear is a power house and if only we spend asmuch time focusing on improving there designs instead of fostering and fanning public fear of anything nuclear.. we might actually get some where..... just my opinion
Added information, the fly gas of burning coal and other fossil fuels is 100-150% more radioactive than nuclear waste. Yes the waste stays radioactive for much longer, but it can be contained easier than a gas that can easily blanket an area.
I agree completely, peoples fear for nuclear is misplaced in this day and age. Nuclear is also a great way to help governments transition into using more rentable energy sources. Sadly we rely on the CEOs of coal on petroleum companies to help this conversion which just isn't happening, unfortunately.
Fear of nuclear should go away, yes. Although, nuclear power isn't perfectly clean. There's nuclear waste, and we *really* don't have a good way of dealing with it. Until we can find a way to reduce nuclear waste, nuclear power alone won't be enough to save us.
Necleus power plants are not renewable..... They require uranium, which isn’t that easy. Or to be more exact U-235, which is far rarer than normal uranium. They will eventually run out like oil, natural gas and fossil fuels. Edit: Nuclear
I wish that more and more people, especially leaders, were caring and mindful about the health of our planet. It's the only home we have and likely be the only home we will ever have. It gives us life, water, food and shelters us from the dangers of space, yet, here we are repaying Earth by continuing to destroy it with our greed, power and ego. If our beloved Earth is to be inhospitable, then surely, we will go extinct in no time and that's a consequence I cannot bear in my mind for the sake of future generations. Despite this, Kurzgesagt gives me the hope that, one day, we will all set aside our differences and fight to stop human-driven climate change to make the world a better place for every living being. Appreciate the gold video Kurzgesagt!

Made very well, I am just missing the two maybe most important factors here: 1) Reduced Consumption would especially lead to less emmissions, as long as we won't find ourselfes be satisfied with lass than with more and more we will have a porblem. So we need to find new ways of enjoying live without consuming new things all the time. 2) There are real people suffering from climate change. It's not a concept but a real problem, leaving small farmers families hungry because they can harvest less food and so on. As long as we see the climate change as a theoretical problem and not something that actually causes harm to people that are worth as much as we are there won't be a lot of changes made. That's at least what I believe :)
Nearly all recycling it economically efficient, the tricky thing is that efficiency is spread across a huge portion of people and the ones actually doing the recycling suffer from it as personally for them it is much less efficient.
And that's where I'd wish my country Germany would have done things different. After the Fukushima disaster, we bailed out of nuclear energy. But as our push for renewables was and is still not advanced enough to replace nuclear (and maybe never will), we upped energy production in our coal-burning power plants. With this we also took away the chance for technological advances in nuclear energy. I'd like politicians to sometimes stand their ground and do what's best and not what pleases the people most. Nuclear is the energy option with least deaths per kilowatt by far. And with advancements in reactor technology, there are now reactors running - so called breeder reactors - that can burn the waste of a normal reactors in a way that what's left has a half-life of about 50 years rather than a few 10000. Unfortunately not in my country.
It's just consumerism blaming the people for their byproduct. They emit so much more so let's stop buying from them and just reduce their footprint. Or we can regulate and stop them from being a business all together. Gas powered is just forced on us to keep those in power rich. We wanna have people trade in their car for a replacement that is modern and highly invested in keeping it green. The gov can work with car companies and have them scrap and recycle all those cars for new cars. But that just seems like it's be too much work for them, but if it's for a profit they'll make the sea part and move mountains for that extra penny
The film ‘Kiss the ground’ does a great job at illustrating how our current methods of farming are releasing billions of pounds of carbon into the atmosphere, and how we could have an easier time reaching net zero emissions if we were to change those practices. I would highly recommend it to those wanting to research solutions for climate change, or people who like things narrated by woody harrelson :)

Farmers in industrialized countries only grow that much because they can sell it. Corn (maize) is often sold to livestock producers as feed for the animals. A given amount of corn could feed six times as many people as when it is used to feed chickens. Much of the energy in the corn is lost as waste heat through the metabolic processes of the animal and is used to make parts of the animal that are often discarded like bones and feathers. You could feed way more people with maize than with chickens raised on maize. However farmers only grow as much maize as they do because they can sell it to livestock producers, junk food manufacturers (think high fructose corn syrup and flamin hot Cheetos etc), and ethanol producers. This in turn gives the farmers money to feed their own families. Corn could be just given to hungry people in the developing world for free but farmers would never grow the corn in the first place if they didn’t get paid to do it. If you were to redistribute the food someone would have to buy it first and then give it to the hungry. People in the industrialized world would likely be opposed to increasing their taxes to pay for feeding people in other countries. Not to mention the corn shipped to the hungry would reduce the global supply of corn for other things like meat production and snacks which would raise the price of those things and in turn make people in the industrialized countries angry. The reason we suck at distributing it is because it’s complicated and there would be a cost to just giving it to the hungry
most of the crops is wasted to inefficient animals, because many want to eat lots of tortured corpse parts of innocent animals. Just watching videos by earthling ed on this, or the docu cowspiracy.
@@shafthespaceegg A diet must be varied however. Even if not for physical health, eating the same thing day after day isn't good for your head. Chickens produce eggs and cows produce milk, so I'd say using corn and grain as feed for them is a good use for it. I understand the value in providing it to impoverished peoples as a substitute and staple however. I think a big issue in the way of wider food distribution is that it's still a time-sensitive, and resource exhaustive matter. Food expires, and the means to prevent it aren't necessarily cheap or easy. As to farmers simply giving away the grain they've produced for free, I'm sure we could agree that it'd be a rediculous plan ethics wise. However, surely a governmental or intergovernmental, tax-based fund could be used to purchase it, if there isn't one in place as is in some way. I'm rather uninformed on the topic, but just my two cents.
Some people don't seem to understand that we aren't like other species. We are not depending on the food chain in the same way as other species are because we have the ability to grow our own food. Sure , people will die if we don't stop this but it will not be the end of mankind or anything like that.
Spoilers: It COULD be avoided, but fossil fuel industries have massive economic and government power globally. It is in their interest that we keep using fossil fuels, so we do. edit: It should also be stated that these industries have massive MEDIA power as well. Hence why you have deeply uninformed people commenting below me about the "goodness" of Co2, as well as deeply informed people who believe that fossil fuel industries are the lynchpin to our economy. Unfortunately, both are equally manipulated.
You can't avoid nor stop the climate change, it is not in human hands to stop it, it's like trying to stop earthquakes permanently, it's impossible for us.
Eh, well yes and no.. really. It's not as simple as say it's in their interest, it is but for more reasons than most of us are lead to believe. I mean people are exposed to more alternatives than ever and the adoption by comparison has been lacking. Not just because it's not convenient enough for the government, but also for the consumer as well. I mean this topic needs an essay, one I can't be bothered to dive into for now so I'll leave it at that for now aye.
If it was that easy even the worst of world leaders would have done it by now. You got to look for what is tying their hands. How would going 100% green with our current tech affect the common citizen? How would it affect common citizens if we went to only electric cars or no cars at all? can we even afford to put enough new green factories up to off set our lost power? Stuff like that.
@Brian Fike Cause planet is alive and vulcanoes and animals and stuff happen, (an asteroid?) climate isnt the same, still our pollution is more enough for earth and for climate to change badly.
@Brian Fike It's odd to me that you accept the scientific fact that indeed there were many climate changes throughout the ages and then go 180 and don't accept the same level of scientific facts that we are currently having a human-made climate change. If the scientific community states two things, why are you accepting only one of them? it baffles me.
All it takes is 1 person, 1 discovery to change the course of history… I put my faith in the people with passion, because they’ll go against all odds for the goal they so desire, so instead of being pessimistic and all “doom abd gloom” have faith in the scientists and people who are so passionate about their goal they will stop at nothing.
Hell yeah!! I agree with that. But I think there's also room for action that we just aren't doing ya know; we aren't doing what we can do today with the tech we already have. I seriously wish we start charging for carbon footprint. Use that money to fund the development of new technologies, maybe things like scholarships for climate change and such! If we could turn research in just about every core science/engineering field around for COVID (by only funding COVID related projects), why can't we emphasise the climate more with a green tax?
That's pretty much the point. Every few decades they move a different goalpost around and tell it's it's going to destroy the world. Wasn't that long ago we were all supposed to freeze to death from an imminent ice age. And when that didn't happened they shifted it to global warming. And when that didn't kill us and the average global temperature started to level off they shifted it to climate change, as though the climate is not in a constant state of change by nature. People are easier to control when they're afraid and hopeless.
Please don't. I know that I can control what you think but there is still a positive future out there in the gloom. One of the best antidotes to climate anxiety or a feeling of powerlessness is to act. You may be already doing that but every inch of nature preserved, and every watt of energy produced by renewables, is a win for all of humanity.

Feels like part of the reason we've been dragging our feet on phasing out fossil fuels and switching to low carbon alternatives is because this topic is SO politicized... how do you get around that? I know so, so many people who scoff at the idea of things like nuclear and solar energy merely because they arent fossil fuels. Its disheartening that a conversation cant even be had because of political dogma
People scoff at Nuclear power mostly because of Fukushima and Chernobyl. But modern nuclear reactors are very safe but countries like Japan are phasing them out due to public disaproval of Nuclear power
Also money

Unless next generations just follow our footsteps into doom.
Wood is still better than plastic.
Got told the same in the 1980's
It's all a scam. The climate has and will always change. Nothing can be done to change that.
I was taught about in secondary 1 geography and yeah... nothing is being done about it

Govts. have to incentivize vehicles by say, trading in your vehicle for scrap for a buyout of its net worth so you could be incentivized to trade it in for an electric car.

Once they kill everyone else though, emissions should drop a bit.

Were they worried about cows stopping giving milk? I’ve heard it’s true.........................
You should fight unnecessary legislation, so a private person can buy that "useless" patch of land and build a solar plant, or whatever he likes. He would, of course, more likely build a nuclear plant. But then, people would protest.

Fun contradicting fact:
Burning waste in facilities designed for it actually reduces carbon emissions indirectly.
Hope you enjoyed ;D

Thank you for your slight ramble. I learnt something new today.

@@MeatPops why is nuclear expensive? Political reasons, not economic reasons.
@@estunjohnstown6224 What do you mean by "political reasons"?
Yes nuclear is safe. More people died from the storm that caused the Fukushima incident than the nuclear plant failing. Actually no one died from the nuclear plant at all. Nuclear fission is a fantastic source of energy while we work on better ones.
People are magnifying the tragedies of Chernobyl and Fukushima, ignoring how energy efficient nuclear power is
"We can leave nuclear power plants online longer."
THANK YOU, finally a concise and absolutely correct statement on this topic. Now (german) politicians still need to accept this finally as not an option, but a must-do asap.
How about building newer, better ones also? Current nuclear plants are 50 year old technology and they still outperform any other form of energy production.
What about nuclear waste?
Ixian Technocrat yes and investing in new ones will be a very good choice

Made very well, I am just missing the two maybe most important factors here:
1) Reduced Consumption would especially lead to less emmissions, as long as we won't find ourselfes be satisfied with lass than with more and more we will have a porblem.
A possible topic for the next video about climate change:
"Is recycling economically efficient?" (or something recycling-related)
It ain't for lithium
It is for aluminum
Nearly all recycling it economically efficient, the tricky thing is that efficiency is spread across a huge portion of people and the ones actually doing the recycling suffer from it as personally for them it is much less efficient.
@@SofaMuncher
this was near incoherent, the only interpretations of this I have are all self contradictory
@@TheRatsintheWalls this wasn't much better, but I'll raise a question:
do the people recycling make money from it
And that's where I'd wish my country Germany would have done things different.
Can you kindly point me to any resources on these renewable nuclear plants? I'm genuinely curious
Closely similar to Italy - again, unfortunately
More nuclear power!!! Fuck solar and wind we need cheep and clean power like nuclear and hydro!!!
You can buy it from us , the French , dont worry my friend :)
Same, I would like to see the source. If you are right, the biggest disadvantage of NPPs would be no more.
"the less fossil fuel we burn over next few years, the more time we give innovation to catch up" - that was actually inspiring
And that's how I think we should view climate change.
Not as doom and gloom, but a oppotunity to innovate and improve!
Mr. Boomguy I totally agree with you

Well I mean we already produce food for about 10-11 billion people but we suck at distributing it
Farmers in industrialized countries only grow that much because they can sell it.
Nothing will happen, we are already doomed.
Considering how the population keeps increasing fastest in the poorer countries, I'd say "we" are doing a fantastic job in that regard...

But dont they have families, kids? Do they just not care about their future or are they not informed somehow?
Eh, well yes and no.. really. It's not as simple as say it's in their interest, it is but for more reasons than most of us are lead to believe.

And when that didn't kill us and the average global temperature started to level off they shifted it to climate change, as though the climate is not in a constant state of change by nature.
