This video was filmed on a Sunday at the original CLUB SENSATIONS. The club was owned by my brother Reginald Willoughby and me (Kelly Willoughby)...CLUB SENSATIONS was located at 45 Branford Pl.,Newark New Jersey.
I'm 51 today. In 1986, I was in 10th grade and this song was on a continuous loop then at every school dance, every skating rink, and at the beach. I love it. Reminds me of those good ole days.
As a 19 year old, I would honestly love to hear "Oh Sheila" at any of those places right now. From the 3 years that I've explored 80's culture, I've seen some good and some bad, but the good outweighed the bad for sure. It literally looked like Heaven on Earth; there was more effort put into making music and everyone could express themselves freely and wildly (although LGBTQ+ acceptance was a work in progress). I love this decade so much, I'm growing my hair out for a kinky-haired mullet! 😎
While you were in 10th grade in '86, I was age 10. My bro was first year post HS, and in Air Force that spanned a total of 8 years and few months. My bonus bro became a teen, but he was not in my life until I was 20, as my parents were still together then.
I would definitely recommend listening to some retrowave. My personal recommendation: The Midnight Timecop1983 FM-84 Miami Nights 1984 At 1980 Electric Youth These are some good artists that can capture the 80s feeling to the heart.
It’s crazy so crazy that music like this isn’t listened to and deciphered now a days… I was 3 listen to this still and understood and felt love flow through the house of a single woman raising 5 colored children… this was my mothers peer pressure music, pressuring her to be loved by the messiah, the man, and the world… Power in music and power made for the people in 3 minutes, life changing if you allow it to be!!!❤😊😢🤯
I want to dedicate this to my sister 💙Sheila Reneé McCureay💙 that passed away in '97 at the age of 36.. I come from a Southern Bluegrass and Country family.. My older brothers in the mid 70's were into Heavy Metal & Rock.. and my eldest sister Sheila was into R&B and Old School "Funk." Wasn't a Saturday go by without watching Soul Train in the '70's... watching her learn the newest dance moves on the show.. I can still recite all of Rappers Delight, Fantastic Voyage, Double Dutch Bus etc.. that she taught me when I was young. ~R.I.P.~ Fly High Sista.. I Love and Miss you Dearly!!
Sorry to hear about your sister. The good thing about these songs are that you have such a good memory of a human being. Imagine that! Some people just hear a song that they like or don't like. When you hear one of these songs, you see and hear and have the scent of memories with your sister as a kid. No one can have those same memories and no one but you will remember her that way. Even though I don't know you, nor did I know her, that's an amazing thing that you will always be able to share with her and only her.
