    Great quick & dirty tip. 😀 Some cars do not have equal side-to-side wheel spacing on each axle so I would check at the jackstands to make sure the strings are parallel. 1/8" of toe-in across the wheel diameter is OK. I do my own toe adjustments with a laser & mirror setup but the strings will get you close and will also help you center your steering wheel (which my laser tool does not).

    The video is soo help ful but you need some one to sit inside and make sure the steering is straight all time or you coul use the belt but you need to turn it left and right and make sure it’s centre ever time you turn the road in or out

    It's funny I'm seeing this... I just had to do that yesterday after installing a steering rack. It's nice not scrubbing your nice tires off before you can get to the shop for an alignment.

    TBH the 5-10 mile trip to the alignment shop isn't going to ruin your tires. If the wheels look visually straight they're close enough to drive to the shop.

    I honestly did this on my Saturn Vue when I had to fix the inner tie rod and then I sold the car a few weeks later and I remember the guy in the turn the test drive going while the same tracks nice and straight

    What if the rear is wider than the front?
    Edit: if you measured 2 inches front both center caps and the rear is wider then the string will be bent

    Finished replacing front suspension on my ‘12 Altima and got a wheel alignment. Turns out the cv axle is defective. Once I swap out the cv axle, am I going to need another wheel alignment??

    Pulling measurements off the tire would be a more accurate than the plastic floppy-du hubcap i would think Dude, wouldn't it be ! :]

    • @kartboarder22g17
      @kartboarder22g17 3 роки тому +6

      You could have a tire buldge or slight tire buldge, would make more sense to pull the plastic guard off.

      Yep if the tires are pretty new i measure them center to center works beautifully

      If the rim isn't bent, the flat side by the bead is a pretty good reference point. I always spin the tires to check for a bent rim but it's pretty rare.

    Is it correct to put 2mm more in the front than the rear side?

  • @js-wy8fg
    @js-wy8fg 2 роки тому +1

    Toe in value is specified for every car model, it's almost never zero (equal value front and back of the tire).
    Most front front wheel drive vehicles has positive values (toes pointing outward) and rear wheel drives are mostly negative(toe in).

    • @brycelund4112

      this is meant so that you can safely drive to the alignment shop

    • @MarcoFMSousa
      @MarcoFMSousa Рік тому

      Actually, that's incorrect, sir.
      Negative toe means toe out;
      Positive toe means toe in.
      And as it says:
      Out = outwards (axle wheels points out at a forward motion)
      In = Inwards (axle wheels points in, at a forward motion)

  • @dylandesmond
    @dylandesmond 3 місяці тому

    Incorrect. Check the offset on the front and rear is the same beforehand.

      There are no substitutes for professional alignments. You just need to drive it to the alignment shop people. Make sure they check the moving stuff, ball joints, tie rods (inner and outer), sway bar links and struts/shock absorbers front and rear as necessary. Failures at high speed must be avoided.

    Most trucks have a wider front end than the rear.

  • @toddconklin6927
    @toddconklin6927 2 роки тому +1

    Please people.. don't touch your front end...if you loosen the tie rods to much they could come apart and cause a very bad accident... just go to a garage and get it done correctly

    Wanna explain what happens the toe when the rear track is 10mm wider than the front track and you use this method? Yeaaah you should probably do the right thing and at least tell people to check their vehicles track width specs first

    That's a bad advice mate. Not all cars have the same distance between rears and fronts🤨
