    Thanks for the review, I used to record videos with boya pm500 now I'm switching to AKG ARA

    The sound on the ATR is a lot more smooth and way better. Although it would be nice to hear Boya when the audio is processed.

      I already have ATR back in the microphone arm, seems that will keep it for a bit more.

    Given that you don't have an acoustically treated room, the Audio-Technica is better suited, as it picks up less room noise

    ATR to my ears sounds more natural. All of them however pick up significant reflections. Seems like you have some space on your walls for some acoustic paneling which will help a lot. What kind of floors do you have? If hardwood, a rug would help a lot as well.

      I doubt I can do much to improve acoustics in the room. My desk is in the corner of the living room and unlikely family will be happy to see foam decorations on the walls :)

      that said, I do think a good dynamic microphone like Heil PR40, Sure SM7B, or similar would be even better, you'd have to be REALLY close, but it would eliminate so much of the reflections. (Of course, it's $$$, and you need a separate dedicated interface)

    • @AivarsMeijers
      @AivarsMeijers  2 роки тому

      @@bscheirman thats quite a lot of $$. Guess that SM7B + interface for it will cost close to 1K. That would be reasonable investment for podcasts or if I would do more content in front of the screen, similar to your screencasts. For most of the videos I'm using shotgun microphone, I will think about that if will not found any better problem to solve by throwing money to it :)

    I liked them in following order:
    1. ATR
    2. Rode Videomic NTG
    3. Boya (wouldn’t buy this one personally)

    • @AivarsMeijers
      @AivarsMeijers  2 роки тому

      That about the same like I would order them. I'm sticking with Rode for running around and recording vlogs, ATR for live streams and video calls.

    The ATR Definitely followed by the BOYA, rhode sounds terrible

    ATR sounds better than the Boya. I like the dark look of the Boya yet sound quality is more important than visual quality of the microphone.

      ATR showing his age and looks outdated, but still sounds good. Probably it will stay around for a bit more.

    I just bought like a cheapo 30$ XLR micrphone setup, with a RØDE's AI-1 interface for 110$, and it sounds amazing.

    • @AivarsMeijers
      @AivarsMeijers  2 роки тому

      ATR microphone has XLR connection as well, I'm curious if that would make a big difference to use AI-1 or similar interface comparing with USB connection for mice
