I love seeing what's in Julian's Shorts :) Damn...that fan is loud...and at 6 amps seem rather inefficient...maybe a 12VDC computer case fan or two would be a bit better to run off the battery like this.
Yup, nothing like pulling out PWM controlled fans from servers and top of the line workstations. Quiet and powerful, will last forever. One would think this thing runs for hours every day so you don't really need a jet engine turbine. Not to mention that repurposing is the way to go for ecology and economy. So many people just buy everything from a shop when they need it and then throw it away at 20% of it's life cycle.
I too have a shed, that gets very warm in the "summer" - been looking for something like this to take the heat out, hooked up to a temperature based controller Thanks
Hi Juilan! Thanks for sharing this. I'm trying the same thing - making a tiny house in a box truck and I would like an extractor fan that isn't super loud and can be modulated. I successfully wired it all but the fan buzzes loudly when it's 'dimmed' all the way - any idea why mine does (same fan) and yours doesn't? Might it have something to do with the type or quality of the PWM?
Found your vid looking at marine blowers for a solar power pond air pump. Don't need much pressure as its only dropping 4-5 feet. Sold me with that speed controller reducing the noise.
Would someone be able to recommend what motor I could swap into this? Preferences: 12v (in vehicle use), Quiet as possible, Adjustable speed, Long lasting, Moisture resistant. Must be a brushless motor that would straight swap?
Well, that fan should shift some air!.... ‘tis a bit more than the gentle draft that should be all that is needed (assuming that there are no leaks in the roof). I have two sheds, one completely wooden and one where the back wall is limestone, the two end walls are half limestone, half brick and the front is wooden with a glass window. Don’t get damp or mould in either of them. But both are well ventilated.
What's the little speed control called? I want to install one of these in an ice cooler and somehow pass the air through a radiator with a water pump to quickly cool it down and make a DIY portable A/C
Well that's better than the cheapo B&Q inline bathroom extractor fan I put in my shed. Might need to upgrade mine and turn the current one into a solder fumes sucker.
@@JuliansShorts Indeed... And so much cleaner than "Julian's shorts relocate themselves due to blow ***" Seriously though, that fan is a bit over the top, isn't it? How many CFM is it rated for?
That motor is just horrible. It sounds like a low cost brushed motor, and the impeller is out of balance too. That'll definitely upset your neighbours. A couple of large 120mm PC cooling fans would move sufficient air, with a lot less power consumption, and a lot less noise too.
I bought it because I'm not very good at fitting mechanical things together. However, the fan ports are 4" (105mm) and the semi-rigid hose I just bought is 100mm. Houston...

@Julian I couldn't hear the PWM from the 555 controller modulating the motor. Any idea of the PWM freq of the controller? (I'm deleting the resistor pack in my Clio Turbo with an AT microcontroller and the PWM is audible).
No problem, if the blowing is not happening towards the desired direction just swap position of the leads 2-5 times to reach the wanted result as usual :-)
And I'd thought GB had mostly gotten out of the Retardenheit era. Pints, fair enough, but come on, feet and inches? Is this a post-Brexit item? Is GB lapsing back to Industrialisation times?
You can regulate the speed via PWM depending of the humidity.
Thanks for showing this now I realised it's way to much for what I need. Noisey aswell
I am a fan of that fan. can the direction be reversed? seems like it should be reversible. cheers.
That will move some air as well as make your neighbours move :)
LOL
Love how they're marketed as "silent" on Amazon.

where can i buy this pulse modulator??

Hi! I'm buying one of these for my van, summer will be hot no more! Question, where can i purchase one of those speed regulators?? Looking awesome
Bolt that on the bottom of a surf board and you just made yourself a jet ski. I wonder if that’s why it’s called a seaflo?
when Julian tried if it was behaving like a hovercraft he forgot the skirt ;)

Where u get that speed switch from
What speed control was that

1:23 woah LOUD
Oooohyes! I know it'll make a decent amount of noise even tho I'm only 40 seconds in. This will be a great video :D
I am _NOT_ disappointed. Excellent noise maker :p
About 40 of those and a Lorry Inner tube. Make it fly.
Where did you get the fan controller?
Well that's better than the cheapo B&Q inline bathroom extractor fan I put in my shed. Might need to upgrade mine and turn the current one into a solder fumes sucker.
I'm in my mid 50s and have been soldering since I was 14... Them fumes never did me any harm... Cough... Cough... :) ...Cough...
Why not, whenever you're going to switch the fan on, whatever your criteria are, simply programme the Arduino to switch it automagically.
That's my ultimate aim :)
doesnt look like it would take a pvc pipe?
Why does my mine turn off and on constantly instead of running continuously
Where u got that switch from I like that one I need one
So how much vacuum does it create?
Okay where do I get one of those modulators?? Help
what kind of battery is that and how long did it last
I can see the headlines now... "Shed Collapses Due To Internal Vacuum"...
I avoided any mention of, well, you know....
or "Shed relocates itself due to horizontal thrust vector"

So now Julian moves off on a tangent and starts ducted fan model aircraft 🛩✈🛫🛬😁👍
I reckon it might have lifted if there was a half inch gap,,,
Am from ethiopia and need this item 5 pcs . How can i get it with speed controller unit Please.
How long has this fan lasted you??
Hi Julian, have you a link to that PWM controller? Thanks.
Just ebay it, millions of modules for your selection.
Do you need a humidity sensor outside too? So as not to use the fan if the ambient humidity is the same?
Yes, exactly that :)
