- Removal and installation of starter assembly on a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with manual transmission. My heat shield was already missing, so I don't have a how to on removing that.
Just watched this again LoL, video is far from perfect. But I hope it helped someone. I said inch instead of millimeter, called a nut a bolt, and stuff like that but as long as you have basic mechanic experience you'll be ok to figure it all out. I hope your repair goes smoothly!
this is the first video Ive seen on doing this that doesnt remove the mani.
glad to see it can be done because I was really *REALLY* dreading having to do that.
I might make a suggestion, remove the entire airbox and possibly that coolant line to get clearer access to those bolts.
all in all though, good instructions and gives me hope for changing mine.
The heat shield on my manifold was already removed when I acquired the vehicle. I have heard the heat shield can be a real pain to remove so hopefully you are able to get at the starter! Take care thanks for commenting
@@johnjesusiskingofkings1770 I ended up having to pull the mani out some to get the starter heatshield off (my 4ge had both still attached) but I did get the job done. I did as I suggested and removed the airbox and coolant line and it did get me more room, unfortunately that lower bolt is just *NOT* user friendly... I ended up using 2 extenders to reach it. I also took a little time and cut the starter shield in 1/2 lengthwise so that I can put it on/off without too much hassle, this way at least the starter is partially shielded from all the heat, but the mani heatshield wont be going back on :)
If you make a new connector like I did, I suggest shrink wrapping the wire. I was lazy and skipped that for some reason. It will corrode again if you don't!
Thanks for taking the time to put this video up! I have a 4g eclipse that needs a new starter and this helped tremendously
That makes it totally worth the time and effort. So many years UA-cam has helped me, it is a blessing to help others now. Thanks for sharing your comment!
Great video despite missing the heat shield. I left my new battery on a battery tender for a few days, while shopping for tin snips.. dropped the battery in and she started right up. Gonna return my starter and get my 238$ back
That is awesome, glad to hear you got your money back!
Vest video a ever see ,so clear good job bro ,you are the best 👍👍👍
Thank you! I'm happy it helped you ❤️
Thanks bro. I gotta change mine. It's not hard at all. I love my 4g
I really enjoyed driving mine when I owned it, 5 speed. They have a decent exhaust sound. The first time I test drove one just for fun, I thought it was a 6 cylinder and I was surprised to pop the hood and see a 4 banger. And the look of the design slowly won me over in time. A unique car in my opinion!
thank you sir
Thank you!
Glad it helped you! So many videos have helped me, so it feels good to pay it back. Take care!
Aye bro can you do a vid on trans control switch I got no clue where it’s at
I really want to help you but unfortunately I don't have the car anymore, and I don't know anything about that. Is it a part of the fuse system or relay system? Or is it a mechanical piece attached to the trans? I really don't have knowledge on that I'm sorry. I hope you find the info you are looking for, God bless you
Anybody know how to replace a starter on the v6 version?
I have not even seen the V6 layout before. Sorry I can't help..
But I'd imagine it is a similar process just a slightly different location maybe. Starter will usually be where the transmission mates with the engine block. I hope you get it fixed Steven! You got this just be careful working on electrical. Unhook battery first for sure.
I have a 6-cyl, are the "fundamentals" basically the same on this would you know?
Sorry I am not sure but I assume it's fundamentally the same but ofcourse definitely research first as I am sure you did. Hopefully it goes well for you
@@johnjesusiskingofkings1770 thanks. :)
How many miles have you got on it?
At the time of this video I think it had around 160-170k miles. Sold it for cheap to family but it's gone now unfortunately.
How do you get the heat sheild off
I bought the car used, and the heat shield was already off. I hope you're able to remove it!
John *Jesus Is King of Kings there’s a heat sheild for the starter and it seems like the only way to get it off would be getting the exhaust manifold off and I don’t want to do that
Chase Thompson did you figure it out I’m doing it rn same problem
Dari Dari yeah had to take off exhaust manifold
How do you get the wire out of the way of the bolts
Is this Dalton
Sorry for the late reply but I honestly don't remember what brand it was.... One of the ones listed on rock auto, I am pretty sure that is the website I bought it from.
This videos garbage......you have to remove the entire exhaust manifold to access the heat shield bolts that are covering the starter.... funny how thats left out
It wasn't left out, there was no heat shield on my car so I wouldn't have known that! Until now I had no knowledge of needing to remove the header for the heat shield. That's a terrible design yikes.
I understand you bought it like that but its pretty obvious that a heat shield would be on a stock manifold. Oh well guess ill just install a header while im at it
TheShangralaaaa17 how is this video garbage your a fkn idiot for saying that! Heat shield or not!!!
@@TheShangralaaaa17 I know this is a late reply, but working in the auto industry, your comment comes across as plain ignorant.
mine has a heat shield and i got it loose fine. currently cutting it out.
