This is a song for ARMY. Jin asked Coldplay to help him make a song for ARMY because he is leaving for mandatory military service, being the oldest from BTS, he will be gone for 18-24 months, leaving BTS and us behind for a little while. Jin wanted a song to say "Goodbye" and "I love you" to ARMY. The little girl represents "ARMY". I won't say too much and give someone else an opportunity to say more on the storyline. You haven’t given Jin the credit he deserves in this song. This song might not show the belting capabilities of Jin but it shows how Jin’s voice can cross over to other genres. It shows how his voice can play with your emotions buy the way he controls his voice. This is a love song to the Armys and everytime we hear it it brings tears to our eyes. This is the power of Jin and his silver voice.

Chris Martin of Coldplay provided the backup vocals in the background and he co wrote this song for Jin. This is Jin's goodbye song for Armys before he enters the military in December. The MV also has many Easter eggs and symbols of Jin's love for Armys. The braille tattoo on his neck is Army. Chris was the news reporter, the guitar he gifted to Jin is on the couch, the little girl represents the Army and the pick-up truck is reminiscent of BTS's truck in their "Most Beautiful Moment in Life" era and in their Yet to Come MV.. but this time he's alone without his BTS brothers.
Jin is the astronaut. He crash-lands on Earth and seems to be taken in by a family (ET anyone?). When his spaceship gets energy (reminiscent of Star Trek: The Next Generation, first episode “Encounter at Farpoint”), he runs there so he can leave but then he realizes his connection to Earth and esp. the little girl (ARMY) so he runs back. The last comment. Family. Gets me in the feels.
The Braille at Jin's neck means "ARMY" BTS just love Army so much..and we love them too.
The crossword isn't a preview. It's a goodbye, although he does have a song called Moon. This song is a goodbye, but I'll be back, because Jin has to go to do mandatory military service in the Korean army for two years. The girl on the bike represents Army, the fans. Chris Martin wrote this song with Jin and Norwegian DJ Kygo produced it.

Mattie, you seem sincere and nice, so here's a friendly tip: If you think BTS does typical "k-pop," you know very little about BTS. In fact, your lack of knowledge of BTS is also why you do not really understand Astronaut. Unlike most other groups, BTS members co-write and co-produce most of their songs based on their personal knowledge and experience. Astronaut is for Army and it is this moment. Rather than saying more erroneous things, take this opportunity to learn about BTS properly 🚀

Yes, it was also surprising for us to hear this genre, but knowing Chris & Coldplay?
Also, Seokjin has co-composed Epiphany in the old-school Britpop genre without realizing it before, and his voice, mostly in low register here, suits the rock genre & Coldplay the most among all his band members.
So, this is such a bittersweet song for us, never fails to bring tears even after listening to it so many times since last week.

KPop is really not a genre, it's more of an industry. This song is a collaboration with Coldplay, and it's a Pop Rock song. This is Jin's love song to ARMY before he enlists in the ARMY. By the way, Coldplay and BTS are good friends.

The song is to say goodbye to ARMY's, his fans, because he is leaving for mandatory military service. The song is about him having to leave despite the fact that he wants to stay. theres a part that almost make me cry, 4:29, because to me its like he is saying you can walk now, its time for me to go.... its so sad.

Moon is one of my fav Jin songs, Jin is my bias wrecker and my fav in the vocal line, I have always loved his live vocals as the record never does him justice and this song proved to all the nay sayers that never gave Jin his praises for his silver voice

Please watch the video of the live performance and start with Chris Martin's introduction because it gives the context for the performance. It is so poignant for me because Jin, who is the baby of his family and then joined BTS and found himself the eldest brother to the other six, found his own older brothers in the members of Coldplay, especially Chris. Thank you for your reaction to this mv, your appreciation of Jin's talent shows and I think it's great that this song stayed in Jin's low to mid range where the rich resonance of his vocal timbre is showcased.

I just would like to comment on: "He could've gone kpop"... so I don't know where to start to break it down😅
First kpop is an industry not a musical genre, which comprises a mix of a lot of genres..
But I understand there are definitely some patterns (heavy productions, many transitions and genres crossover within 1 song, Korean/eng lyrics)...
Now.. I would say BTS =/= kpop...all Jin's songs are pop/ rock ballads and I barely know 2 BTS songs which are the same across their catalog.. they have indeed "bubble gum" pop songs (which I assume is what you implied?), but their identity is closer to hip hop so a lot of rap and rnb, many ballads (pop, acoustic, neo soul..), alternative etc...
So I don't know what you meant exactly when you said that, because kpop is very broad, but paradoxically a very limiting concept and lowers the expectations I feel like musically (not so the production quality, but artistically, diversity)... but I would simply encourage you to actually dig a bit into them to understand what I just said... since you started with their solo stuff I can recommend you to go down the list of each members, I promise you won't be disappointed:

-SUGA (Agust D): Daechwita or 대쥐타 (self-produced, Suga is the main producer of the group)
- Jimin: Lie
- V: Singularity
- Jungkook: My time
-RM: he already has a lot of music out on his own but I would suggest waiting the end of the month as he will drop his album

I agree male idol music is often just a lot of noise (which I nicely put as heavy productions 😅), it was just a genuine question as an outsider,( I don't know how familiar he is is with the industry) so I just wanted to know if his conception of kpop is just Korean bumble gum pop, or just noisy music, or very electronic sounds, i was just genuinely curious, no bad intent behind my question!😊
And I agree Jin's and BTS's music in general really stand in a league of their own and they really tend to stay away from stereotypical kpop sound, and are bigger than kpop which is why I encouraged him to actually listen to more BTS, because he wouldn't get in with this assumption if he delves more into their works😊

1. BTS isn't just pop.
2. BTS isn't kpop. Kpop isn't a genre.
3. BTS is a mixture of 90s hiphop, pop and edm.
4. Jin's main genre is poprock ballads or trot. This song has trot singing elements mixed with coldplays classic rock production.
5. Again kpop isn't a genre, it's an industry, that bts does Not belong to.
6. Even if you try to figure out what kpop sounds like... we all know, whatever they are attempting, it sounds like noise.
