Ever since I’ve heard this song I wanted to find the studio recording of it. I finally recovered the rest of my brains cells and built up the intellect to search “free bird studio recording”
This isn’t the film of the studio recording. It’s a live performance they did back in 1974 in Germany. The channel just added the studio version for the audio
Man that Allen Collins was the greatest guitar soloist ever. I know the most of these guys are dead but definatly not forgot. I would rather hear the extended version anyday. This is a true classic song and the guys who made this song possible deserves the credit. To Ronnie Vansant and Allen Collins you both are the reason I can't stop hitting the replay button. RIP 2 thumbs up
"that right there was the equivalent of the freaking Mona Lisa. - Way different than just hearing it on the radio." - Ohhh so true my friend. Song will very well burn for all of eternity. Amazing to watch the original group, banding together on this masterpiece. Chokes me up 95% of the times i am so honered and privileged to listen to it.
What was there not to love about this ??? Creative music science at work through impeccable talent... not that I can justly describe this. OMG... the energy !
Well done Jared, i was lucky to be in Atlanta during the time Skynyrd was there recording at MCA, saw them at Funochios, Richards, and The Fox...what memories..
Sylvia Florida Funny how everybody ends up in Florida, used to live on Peachtree Cir, loved Mose Jones, Hydra, Mothers Finest...the whole Atlanta scene was so cool, if only we could go back...had fun on 10th Street, at Underground Atlanta, Roses Cantina, Johnny's steakhouse...i grew up in Chamblee and Doraville, you cant even recognize the place now...we probably sat next to each other to one time or another, at Richards or Alex Cooleys ...Chastain Park listening to the Allman Brothers, or Atlanta Rhythm Section...anyway nice talking to ya
Jared, I can't thank you enough times for this video. Not only the music is great, but it's very nice to see how this amazing band played this awesome music. Thank you very much!
YES, I definitely noticed that while syncing. Even the little nuances that you would think are improvised, they did deliberately and they are visible in the performance (like Gary's little "wipe" he does with the slide at 0:56). Thanks!
We had tickets for their gig at Winterland, San Francisco 1977 & when they crashed it was like a knife in my heart. Best Southern Rock Band & Freebird is one of the best songs ever. So glad I got to see them every time they played the city back in the 70's. RIP Freebird,
5 people aren't free birds. Also, I congradulate and appreciate your obvious hard work!! You did an absolutly AMAZING job on putting this video together!!!! Mind was blown by the song, but when I saw the video, it like went back into pieces and re-exploded!!
This song is perfect in every way, from the iconic slide guitar opening to the balls out guitar solo grand finale and the sentiments of a liberated spirit held within the lyrics, made all the more poignant by the untimely deaths of most of the band. a solid southern rock icon that will last forever, and i shall leave this planet riding on the slipstream of its beating wings.
Because the live playing is easy to find. This was made manually, by me, by editing it together. It was an experiment to see if I could sync up the studio recording. And I did.
Major freaking props to the guy that posted this, synced up the audio & included the informative annotations. Maybe you have to play guitar to appreciate this (maybe not) but that right there was the equivalent of the freaking Mona Lisa. - Way different than just hearing it on the radio. When you see those dueling Gibson SG's, along with Ronnie Van Zant & Collins going COMPLETELY nuts on the Gibson Firebird you can truly appreciate what went into this masterpiece. Freaking. Awesome.
I have been searching the FULL VERSION of this song for HOURS but all i get is a 4 minute song or a 9 point something second song in whih the song ends in mid solo. It was horrible . but FINALLY i have found a FULL VERSION to this AWESOME song. LONG LIVE REAL MUSIC and A MILLION THANKS TO THE UPLOADER !!!!!!!
awesome job man! chocked me up at the beginning as this song does sometimes. especially since seeing this footage is new to me. God they are so young. Allan is amazing! I want to go back in time
to the critics, dont compare this band with any other. they were lynyrd skynyrd, one of the greatest southern rock bands ever. they were who they were. that alone is the only thing that will ever matter. its a great video. thanks for all the work mixing this studio version to the video.
Way to go! This video really must have took a lot of work. Thank you for going through so much effort with one of America's greatest (if not the greatest) band! RIP all lost members of the band. You will be remembered forever.
The outtake version was first released in the late 80's on a compilation album called Skynyrd's Innyrds. If you listen closely to the original studio version (from pronounced) you can hear where it fades out before playing the final winddown that you alway associate with the live version.
Indeed. Thanks so much for this superb video and all the hard work and trouble you have taken to mix it. I think if people can only come on here and say how bad something is ... well clearly they looked up the wrong link! Having done so it seems a bit silly to then post negative comments and take their stupidity out on someone else! The original Skynyrds were amazing and I remember being totally devastated at the time of the crash.
Man!!!!! When they wrote this song and were creating the Guitar and Rhythm all the way around, you know they were seriously feeling this music to the core of their soul!!!! Damn this song is just soooooooo Rippin in their big time!!!!
FAVORITE QUOTES To me, there's nothing freer than a bird, you know, just flying wherever he wants to go. And, I don't know, that's what this country is all about, being free. I think everyone wants to be a free bird." Ronnie Van Zant
Wow this kicks through the fire and the flames a** anyday! This was back when bands had to have REAL talent to actually be considered worth anything. Im only 14 but, I have a much higher appreciation of music from this age than the crap they have on the radio now, no matter what anyone says.
Wow..does this song ever take me back to a day when this was "my song" and it's just how I lived too!!!! This one's for Larry ~ I still love you!!!! Deb
@nenxe but he did play drums,& sing on a couple old songs before pronounced came out.& did write some old stuff with them.if i recall right, leon didnt play on the first record.it was ed king playing his parts.but its realy the bunch on the cover that are the original lineup in my eyes! There will never be a Skynyrd like them!!!73-77 was magic!!!
great job!! ronnie did like to have the songs played live as close to the studio version as possible but there will always be slight differences. so, while that may have made your job a bit easier this must have taken you days to do!!! thanks for the hard work! it's fun seeing the original members playing the song live to the recording that they made. skynyrd 4 ever...
Ever since I’ve heard this song I wanted to find the studio recording of it. I finally recovered the rest of my brains cells and built up the intellect to search “free bird studio recording”

Same my guy
we can be bird brained sometimes
Even after all these years, this song still has one of the sickest guitar solos in the entire world.
It's more than sickest
You help keeping their memory alive. LONG LIVE LYNYRD SKYNYRD!!!!
Almost everybody died
7:59 THIS IS ART

Who are they?
The guitar playing is fucking amazing

Excellent job! I'm sure it took a while to get it synced right but the end result was worth it!

What was there not to love about this ??? Creative music science at work through impeccable talent... not that I can justly describe this. OMG... the energy !

I got it on 8track unplugged version 1973
Well done Jared, i was lucky to be in Atlanta during the time Skynyrd was there recording at MCA, saw them at Funochios, Richards, and The Fox...what memories..
I saw them at Funochios in Atlanta, too in 1973. Also, The Rathskellar in Gainesville in 1972. They played a set before Tom Petty (Mudcrutch).

I agree. if you don't like the song, just don't listen to it. don't dislike just because you don't have good taste in music. :)
