Tiny detail which I really like is that Wikus starts the eviction process on day 1 very polite and nonaggressive but as the day drags on, he becomes quicker to anger as the sheer number of Prawns he has to try and process makes him lose his patience. It’s a very human reaction without being blatantly evil.
doesn't the word prawn mean shrimp? they legit look like shrimps though.....
So true, captured perfectly
@@geonneon4141 Yes it does, but in this case it comes from the name of the insect native to South Africa. Prawn something, I can't remember now.
@@WarriorOfGoo Libanasidus Vittatus or "Parktown Prawn".
It's a reaction for SOME humans, I'm sure.
Wikus: immediately starts messing with the alien device
Alien device: spits fluid at him
Wikus: *OKAY WEVE FOUND A DANGEROUS DEVICE HERE*
Well in his defense he wasn’t wrong…
@@thehumenthing8504 He was, the purpose of the fluid was not to harm anyone.
@@enekaitzteixeira1070 I get that, but even if it’s supposed to be harmless towards Prawns it’s very harmful towards Humans, kinda like chocolate to dogs. I wouldn’t consider a fluid that can painfully change you into an alien very safe. Still see your point though.
If it wasn’t for avatar being released in the same year, I can confidently say this film could’ve won some of the major awards in the Oscar’s.
Probably wouldn't have won much. But a few nominations, definitely. Remember that it was actually The Hurt Locker that won Best Picture Award anyway. Decent war flick but highly overrated.
District 9 still is an amazing movie, the setting that it feels like a documentary is so convincing.
Christopher: Be polite
Paul: (Slams door immediately)
panic mode
Now that’s rude.
1. He has no protective gear on👨🏭
2. No gloves and is touching everything 🖐
3. Opened a can from an "👽alien district👾" face front towards him😷🤢
Seriously how Dumb was this nice guy...Lmao this movie was awesome tho 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
Earlier he called a guy a sissy for wearing a mask. Some people are like that.
And sniffing from an unknown substance. That could be a chemical weapon too.
Yeah! Hahahah
Well hahaha this kind of people is like the ones who gives a shit about stay at home in our times! ahahah so for me is absolutely believable that some dumb where done that exactly stupidity.
That was a movie !!
Nowadays with the COVID-19 i have seen people handing things without PPE.
Real life !! Real dumb decisions!!
Imagine if Paul politely answered the door. The whole movie could've been over probably 15mins after lol
Sharlto Copley is insanely underrated, why is he not in more movies??
Elysium
Great movie, totally diff person
He really is underrated
"Free Fire" is excellent if you haven't seen it.
He's in alot of underrated movies for example this one but check out Europa Report. He was damn good.
Great movie. Just regret not to have seen it in the big screen. Anyhow, if the sequel is ever produced, I hope it is as good as the original. The alien promised Wikus he would return to help him out and I don't think the alien was just bullshitting him in the first place. He was dead serious.
NJTDover he was never coming back to begin with
NJTDover don’t think there ever was supposed to be a sequel. Granted the ending was kind of ambiguous, but I’m sure that was intentional. The whole film is about acceptance of others and trust. At the start of the movie wickus dehumanized the prawns like everyone because he believed they were savages but over the course of the film he learns that was just a lie people told themselves to justify discrimination. At the end, he puts his faith on Christopher to come back in three years, he’s grown as a person. He has no guarantee the ship really is coming back, but he believes Christopher is good enough of a prone to honor his promise. At the end us not seeing what happens next mirrors Wickus perspective we don’t know how it all ends, but we can appreciate his character growth for putting his life in the hands of the same prone he almost killed at the start
Ah it was so awesome ! I saw it when I was younger in theaters. Absolutely amazing! I have always hoped for a sequel but sadly I don't think they will ever make one. I do think after 3 years the alien would have came back tho
There is going to be a sequel its in the works right now
Don’t worry I saw it for you on the big screen
1 he wasn’t careful
2.he didn’t put a hazmat suit or anything on with gloves
3. He should have report it and have the people with hazmat suits to report it and see what it is
He should have had one of the guys with him radio for medical help immediately when he got sprayed in the face. He never should have left the room he was sprayed in until hazmat shows up, they didn't know what it was when he was contaminated, he could have contaminated the cameraman and everyone else in that room. It could have been a cocktail of highly infectious airborne diseases 🤦
I THINK Wikus save many lives, if mnu know about the fluid they can use a bioweapons mass destrucción brutality
Wikus: “as you can see here, it has the markings so it’s definitely alien. But I don’t trust it you know”.
Also wikus: *touching and playing with the device*
If no sequel, I'd settle for a prequel film
@@incisive1896 There is a sequel currently being worked on, District 10.
@@MilesEdgeworth129 they said that in 2013...
@@Freezorgium It's been officially confirmed quite recently.
I guess because the alien weapons didn’t work with humans, he assumed all technology is only limited to the aliens
Whole movie trouble could have been avoided if the prawn would have just taken the black spray device with him instead of giving it to the yellow one
He barely even understood what the hell Christopher was doing, so why did he think it’d be a good idea to leave it with him?
He did not know he was gonna be able to get out and did not want to be searched with it if found by MNU if they surrounded the house
Dig a little hole and bury it in the dirt like a dog bone
@@swashbucklemchrue2323plot
How did the reporter not think that was a bomb. Not smart to be messing with unknown alien technology without protection
Well wikus was a naive dumbass at the start of the movie.
My theory is that none of the Prawns in this film were originally born this way. They all could've been from 1 or more other planets where they were exposed to these chemicals and also transformed into Prawns like Wikus was....
It might also explain why their giant ship ran off course to begin with and how so many of them are the way they are. The original Aliens that are behind all of this might not even be Prawns at all. It can't be a coincidence that a chemical like this exists which can turn one species from an alien planet into another species like theirs. Things like that have to of been made with purposeful intent.
Possibly, but we know that at least Christopher can control the ship, which does suggest that the ship is Prawn designed. It's more likely that the higher up Prawns all died off, except for a few like Christopher who were stuck on Earth, because part of their ship fell to the Earth and ran out of fuel.
that's an AWFUL theory
@@DaveDexterMusic it’s really not. You just want to disagree, troll and argue about it.
@@DrakeBrunettemaybe the fluid was designed to recreate a missing or severed limb such as the medical machines he spoke of. Maybe the fuel comes from the medical machines!
@@DaveDexterMusic I agree. It doesn't make a lot of sense.
The little one is cute
_"hello leetle guy , it's da sweetie man coming!"_
wikus van der merwe giving a lollipop to christofar's son , he is cute, a cap would suit him.
3:35 Arthur Morgan moment.
True
LMAOOOOOO
considering what it does, it could be used as a bioweapon ,too.
look at how interested mnu was with it, storing it in their facility, making wikus shoot with his newly transformed hand and using the prawns's weapons, you just know that they'd have trialled it on soldiers or on prisoners.
Almost positive the government did it as well in real life
I'm sure the black goo idea in Prometheus was taken from this
@Nick 1998

@Nick 1998 idk, i kinda like the different eyes at the end, and koobus saying, before he got shredded like a lettuce by the prawns - _"fok, now i see why they want you so bad,but i think i'll just kill you myself"_ (or something like that) like a whole new level of heterochromia iridium.
Why does Wikus seem like he doesn't know what he's talking about?
Because he was a patsy who they knew wanted to make a name for himself all the while being completely oblivious to the fact that he was a patsy.
21 year it have to know how they talking to human and human know how it work.
Someday you well realise most people in positions of power are "Wilkus."
George Hamilton nigga they fucking aliens that’s why
@@ShimrraJamaane 😢How sad he didn't figure out was only a "Patsey"
The scene honestly makes me wonder what Christopher’s job was before his people came to earth?
When mom finds the anime figurine in a jar.
He’s going to turn into one of those alien bugs from District 9!
Alien gang signs are dope
ja, regtig fokken lekker!
I watched this movie when i was a little boi. I lOVED it :)
great Memories...
The gang signs on the shack 😂
3:35 That's what his nosy self GET🤣
2:12 when someone tries to go to your door and ask if you've been vaccinated
3:34 Air Wick -- LOL STEEVENSON I FUCKED UP (I am also high, I'm sorry)
3:36 reminds me of being a kid in Jr High and everybody was using TAG body spray in the locker rooms lmao
You couldn't hide it by just placing it 12 inches outside the shack in the rest of the garbage until after the inspectors left?
What I’m wondering is… when they arrest a prawn for having weapons etc., what exactly do they do with them? Is there a prawn prison or…
I was thinking the same thing, would’ve been interesting to see how the criminal justice system deals with prawns in this world
Apparently District 9 takes place in the year 2010. 0:49
Reaper The Indoraptor yeah. It does
Despite it supposedly being set in 1982. There's also a 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa poster on a building during a helicopter scene in the background.

i remember this movie was a big thing
im glad they didnt make a sequel
nowadays sequels is garbage replaced with different movie directors and mess everything
xD
District 10
Aw yes opening the door to inform officials noone is there then shutting the door, never works for me either
When i was kid i thought this aliens actually settled in ruins of Johannesburg just because the way movie is shot.
this movie deserve a sequel.
This movie’s script is one of the best ever. So much history in it. It harkens South Africa, Palestine, Afghanistan, Nazi Germany, China, the CDC, bio-weaponry, Kafka.. reminds me of today’s covid camps too.. brilliant script!
cringe
Everything you said was on point until you said CDC and covid lol
If the fluid turns humans into prawns... are the prawns originally humans?
Am I the only one who felt bad for the aliens because they were treated badly?
No, that was kinda the point of the movie
The movie is based off of the Apartheid
Well it's easy to sympathize with beautiful aliens like in Avatar, but it takes real skill to get you to care about an insect.... Part of why this movie is good.
Lol yeah, that's called empathy.
Chochtopf I didn’t ask, I’m not stupid
*This is an excellent sci-fi movie & serves as great political commentary.*
You mean Diversity doesn’t work
@@Marc-io8qm yep, sure 🤣
Funniest film I've seen in a while!
3:34 They should've have hid that better if he'd never discovered it and spray it in his face.
The content of the device is obviously the black goo from Alien.
It would make more sense the yellow one was actually Christopher’s wife and that it was really a female since male and female prawns look similar and would explain the excessive aggression and his anger at her death. Plus it’s voice isn’t as deep as Christopher’s 2:00
It's not his wife cuz like 10 min after yellow guys death CJ junior asks "where's your friend?" Then CJ says "He's dead"
Damn what a phenomenal movie
I know it was meant to be in Africa for an interesting story but if it could be moved was it really the best idea to leave them in Africa? Like let's be honest here even with the UN's assistance
The mothership was stuck there. I'm pretty sure they can't move it.
that's the point. if the aliens really came we wouldn't give a shit just avoid responsibility and exploit them mercilessly. like we do to each other. point of the movie.
@@MisuOfArabonaClan I doubt that’s the case. I think as a planet we’d come together and try to work with any alien race.
@@ronconnor2694 hahahahahahahahahaha
man we can’t work together with our own races
maybe it was an Alien virus or Alien mutagen that mutated him into a half prawn
I don't trusted... **pshhhh** lol
The baby alien is so cute!!!!!!!
I dislike seeing humanity attacking what is not immediately understood; if the humans would not fire at them....open up communications instead. Of course, who can know what "moves" 👽's can suddenly 'bust?'🌜🌞⚡⚡⚡🌠🌛

why does their language sound more
nice than mine
"This is a gang sign."
Okay, like... how does he know? Maybe it's just one of their home world insignias. It's like if humans visited another world populated by aliens, who call one of our national flags a "gang sign."
In the MNU, wikus was known to be an over-ranked dumbass.
Maybe he can read Alien he is an Alien social worker.
@@worsethanhitlerpt.2539 No, Wikus was simply appointed by MNU to relocate the aliens. In his day-to-day job, he worked in the governing sector for MNU, to keep the aliens in line. I don't think he was involved in linguistics, given that he didn't understand a single word Christopher, or any other alien, was saying. It was only after he started turning into an alien that he could understand their language.
As for him describing the alien symbol, I think he was just trying to slander the aliens as second-class "citizens," or something like that, being prejudiced toward them.
I just that guy and I don't even know him
although I hate the black goo in the alien prequels more, this one comes in at a very close second place
a fuel source that will turn a member of a completely different species if they come into physical contact with it?
how can such a tiny amount of fuel move that independence day sized ship? or is it only needed for the command module to fly and issue commands to the craft? it is clear that mothership has some sort of power in it. WAS THIS SPACE-FAIRING SPECIES UNABLE TO INVENT POWER CABLES!?
what the fuck is keeping that in the air for over 2 decades by now? I could speculate on some form of antigravity device, if not for the fact that the ship engines provided some form of thrust when leaving the city
and the biggest issue for me: they need their own technology to make it, right? all of their technology on the ground originated inside the ship, right? ( I mean I am assuming that the MNU villains would absolutely not allow them to construct them on the ground from spare parts) SO WHY THE FUCK WOULD THEY EVEN NEED TO GET OFF THE FUCKING THING!?
It’s a sentient ship and this stuff is hydrogel type stuff that turns living flesh to metal and Vice versa
@@kiloton1920 what!? None of that takes place in this movie or are you talking about the black goo in the alien prequels
Please be more specific
The reason the ship couldn't move was cause the control panel had fallen off, and knowing it would be taken by humans, Christopher took it and looked for fuel to bring it back up.
What are the fluid or DNA made of?
Lipstick paste and edible panty DNA.
Hey
Our techonlogy is good
