I miss the satellite GPS in TDU and the 3 levels of zoom, where you could zoom out to see the entire island - great for navigation. Also the fact that you could add your own music playlist, even when online. I miss the change in sound ambience when you rolled down the windows in cockpit mode, you could hear the gush of wind come through, getting louder the faster you drive. It was not unusual to be cruising around the map with the max 8 players for hours at a time. We had all these features in TDU (2006) but after that games lost their soul.
It's the small details that make the difference between a tdu 1 and a tdusc, I couldn't agree more with you, after the mid to late 2000s racing games have lost something words can't quite explain
Documentary! I will watch it in stages. I ditched my TDU Platinum at the start of the month as it broke some stuff. So back to a vanilla save with the Megapack DLC included! Still going strong with my TDU2 save.
TDU is the original racing lifestyle game. And no car game ever replicated its success tbh. Sure you have modern games dumping you into a map with 500 quest markers and give you a hypercar straight from the get-go, but it's not the same thing. There is one thing i really disliked in TDU - the traffic. They would take evasive action straight into your vehicle. Also wanted level was a pain in the arse to shake off. I just don't like cops being in racing games if they don't have a solid gameplay purpose. Like the ones from Most Wanted that were literal psychopaths on crack. So I modded the game to delete traffic from it completely. Cheating? Maybe. But who cares, this is a driving sandbox. I just wanna drive nice cars from interior camera on a big map. Today I can do it in BeamNG or Asseto Corsa but back then, TDU was the way to go.

Recently got TC:SC on the PS5. Currently only rank 16, and so far have generally enjoyed the experience. I've only been disconnected once, but it was due to Sony's recent server issues. In any case, the map is phenomenal, its exactly what I want out of an open world racer. You don't get any wasted space that gives it a sandbox feel, nor do the roads feel like they were crafted to be virtual tracks for hypercars. Hong Kong's city roads & jungle paths feel both organic and very enjoyable to drive. Especially the sense of condensed verticality, which I haven't gotten since the coastline of FH2. Car physics are arcade, enjoyable, but not mid-blowing. The sense of speed is fantastic, and the vehicle functionality is a plus. Though I did need to bind a few inputs, so as to not need the radial menu every time I have to signal. I do have my nitpicks though. -First the always online functionality simply existing. It hasn't been an active problem yet, but it is a looming cloud. They say they won't let the game have the same fate as The Crew, but I'm not fully convinced. -The AI are strangely inconsistent. They aren't abysmal, as people have shown from launch footage, but they tend to wipe the floor with me in the first half of a race, only to remember they left the light on at home in the 2nd half. One 370Z went from 120mph, to almost half that on a straight for no good reason. As if the game suddenly remembered what difficulty it was on. -The representation of Hong Kong in the clans is non-existent. Opposed to Horizon, which tries to immerse you in the host country, Solar Crown merely treats it as a backdrop. Both clan members are African Americans, and the random NPCs hanging about look like a bunch of randomly generated characters who'd look at home in London or New York. Again, the few you can talk to being largely American. The only Asian you encounter is a guy who acts as an entry barrier to joining the Sharps. And the way he speaks feels less authentic, and more like a South Park character, or the Chinese restaurant in the film A Christmas Story. Hard R's and all. -I'm playing in performance mode, but do suffer instances of frame drops and lag. Its the most noticable during races. Beyond that, its too early to point out much else. Its not the horror show everyone had me believe, and even with its faults, I'd put it on par with both Horizon & Motorfest in all respects but content. This is me judging it as a game, and not as a Test Drive product, as it is the very first in the series for me.
@UltraViolet_Moses that's awesome looking forward to it. I recently tried to play the entire series and I think grid 2008 is just the perfect masterpiece. Grid 2 is too arcady and lacks the team management. Autosport leans too much on simulation , although I like the handling autosport has the most lacklustre campaign. It felt like Forza motorsport. Grid reboot is nothing special but grid legends is more closer to grid 2008 ( haven't played the dlc though ).

They had the recipe and what fans wanted for years, + no way they would not have houses to buy and specific dealership brands and the random delivery missions, for that consumers (us) already have Forza Horizon ans NFS etc etc and they will not buy our game. But somehow thats what they done
I just love the first 2 Test Drive Unlimited games. Too bad the driving physics is just not satisfying. The force feedback and wheel support is very bad. I don't like Forza Horizon 5, but the driving physics is what keeping me. If there is a Test Drive Unlimited 2 remaster or mod that has Forza Horizon physics, then it's gonna be my end game racing game.

I just love the first 2 Test Drive Unlimited games. Too bad the driving physics is just not satisfying. The force feedback and wheel support is very bad. I don't like Forza Horizon 5, but the driving physics is what keeping me.
