'It's a miracle I'm still alive' says Ukrainian precision sniper fighting in south east

- A Ukrainian Army Sniper with the nom-de-guerre ‘Death’ said it was a "miracle" that he was still alive as he took a break on Thursday (June 15) from fighting on the south-eastern frontline near Zaporizhzhia.
"Where we were fighting ... one does not live long. Everything depends only on your luck," said the 37-years-old sniper.
He told Reuters that his unit is under constant missile attacks at Zaporizhzhia south-eastern frontline.
"A rocket hit 150 metres away from me five days ago, it tore our car to shreds."
‘Death’ joined snipers training on Thursday (June 15) at an undisclosed location near Zaporizhzhia.
36-year-old sniping instructor with nom-de-guerre 'Chechen' said it takes at least two to three months to properly teach a sniper.
Ukraine's military said on Thursday it had regained control of over 100 square km (38 square miles) of territory in a counteroffensive against Russian forces and Kyiv added Ukraine's forces had advanced on key sectors of the front line.

In fact since 2014 the entire army of Ukraine, despite NATO training and massive and constant help from major Western powers, has failed to drive out the small contingent of Russian troops in Donbas and Crimea. A pathetic military performance. It reminds me of the alleged number 1 army in the world, the most technological ever, which after twenty years of war and billions spent in vain, was put to flight by a gang of ragamuffin Taliban armed only with rusty rifles and a few pickups with machine guns.

Judging the wind is the toughest, following by ranging for distance (particularly when only part of the target is visible). Equipment helps, but it still comes down to training and skill. Good luck to them in the fight to expel the invaders.

I had trouble seeing the target at 300 m with open sights!
Guess I would have found my calling in this conflict.. I used to shoot at Bisley with 300 yds being the minimum range, using open sights on a 7.62mm single shot target rifle. Got through the first round of the Bisley Open once, in torrential rain and winds. However it was shooting at targets rather than people... so maybe it would not be for me. Good luck Ukraine!

Why is he loading the rounds one by one, and not using the magazine?
The idea of single loading is done by a shooter who wants to properly seat a round into the chamber of his rifle in a specific manner based off of how he shoots and was taught to load his rifle. This kind of action done by a sniper is something that one learns in competition shooting in certain circles.
By loading a single round, the rifle is always in a specific form that is always the same at the time of firing. This repeated form of the rifle, shooter, same high quality ammo and trigger pull means the same repeated accuracy over and over and over.
