I learned the hard way that Florentine leather is very porous. I was walking home from work one day and got caught in a rainstorm, my beautiful red Florentine satchel turned dark. I still love it don't get me wrong but it's not bright the way it used to be. I'm going to try the conditioner and see if that helps it. I've never condition dead or cleaned it and I bought it in 2013. Great video and very informative!
Julie Shane oh yes the dreaded rain storm! The fear of every Florentine owner. Conditioning probably won't fix the darkening but it might help blend the color. Definitely give it a try! Thanks for watching!
Hi Mama, I just rewatched this video because I love you lol but I wanted to know, what do you use to keep your tassels flat? Oh and PS my red Florentine that I was telling you about..... I got a new one for Christmas!!!!!!! So I'm going to treat it before it even sees daylight... with the exception of me taking it out to smell it every now and then LOL
@@MamaBeech Thanks for letting me know. I bought a second hand light colored Florentine satchel. It might be the same color you have or maybe a dusty blue and it's showing yellowing, so I was interested if you've ever tried improving on that. Thanks for you reply in any case!
I just got a natural Florentine mini satchel and I’m just wondering....when you use the rain and stain spray are you comfortable taking it out on a rainy day?
Stacie Dawn I probably still wouldn’t knowingly take it out on a rainy day, but I’m super paranoid like that. I spray my bags as a *just in case* some unexpected weather happens or I accidentally spill on them. I still avoid taking Florentine in the elements unless it’s black.
Hi Mama Beech! I purchased my first D&B Florentine satchel in the colour Chestnut. But the zipper/mouth of the bag doesn't flop and bend the way I'd like it to/the way I've seen in ads/online. Would you know how I can fix this? Thanks for reading 💖
This is very common and normal. The leather is going to change so much as you own this bag. Every time you handle it and use it, it will soften. Just keep using it and shoving the top down to “train” it in the position you want. It will get there!
Hi do you recommend using the Apple cleaner and then the conditioner? I have a chestnut Florentine with a dark scratch. It’s not too bad but was just curious to see if the cleaner may help. Thanks for your help!
JM WS the cleaner probably will not help with a scratch. The only thing that will help a scratch is conditioner and a lot of rubbing. Even rubbing with the natural oils on your fingers may help. Good luck!
Thank you for taking the time to respond! I rubbed it with my fingers and it seemed to do better I will definitely give the conditioner a shot if even just to keep it from getting dried. This is my first Florentine and I looooove the leather. Thanks again!
I also got my first Florentine satchel and using the conditioner is like erasing all the marks :) Of course, it may not get rid of a really deep scratch, but I've had great success so far with those ones that get around the top from getting in and out of it.
Thank you for the tip! Luckily the scratch isn’t too bad but it’s a little on the dark side. I’m definitely going to order the conditioner this week. Thanks ladies!
I condition as needed. When you see the corners looking lighter in color that means the leather is dry. Also if you are seeing a lot of scratches, it’s dry. I spray bags at least once a year, maybe twice a year if I use it a lot.
Hmm water stains are REALLY tough and getting them out can be risky. The only way I know of doing it is using more water. You see rain water and tap water both have minerals that leave stains. You can try getting some distilled water and wetting the spot to get the minerals out and then leavening it to dry or drying it with a cool hair dryer. It could fix the issue or it could make it worse, I’ve heard of it going both ways. If you end up making it worse, you can always wet the whole bag down with the distilled water and then dry it. I’d just use a damp cloth and wipe it all down, dont like dunk it in a bucket. This will probably darken the entire bag but hopefully it will be a consistent dark color and not show the stained area. The last resort is sending it to a leather professional for cleaning and/or redying or painting. Good luck!
Mama Beech OMG! Thank you SO much for replying! I wish I had’ve known all this before I invested in this bag! It’s beautiful but GEEZ it looks like it’s gonna be a lot of work! But I think you’re right! I tried using a water based baby wipe and then blotted it dry with a dry diaper😂 It did darken but the spot is less conspicuous. I think if I keep working on it, I’ll get it to a point where I can live with it. But your distilled water idea is genius! I’m gonna give it a try! A million thanks!
This is exactly what I came here to ask. Thank you!! I just bought a large Florentine satchel in “natural” and I don’t want my tassels to fray out. Thanks so much. I just ordered a set of the makeup brush covers after I saw your recommendation. I got 100 of them for like five bucks. I appreciate it!!
Hi! Have you had any fabric stains happen on your florentine bags? I have the mini in Natural and just noticed I got a fabric stain on the back corner (jeans). What would you recommend to remove??
Try Apple Brand cleaner. Just make sure to use a very small amount with a white rag and check the rag frequently to make sure you aren’t removing any dye from the leather. It’s ok to remove a small amount but if you see a lot coming off, definitely stop
After using the rain guarde, I now need to add more conditioner after a few months so do i need to clean the bag or can I just condition over the rain guarde? I notice you said use rain guarde a few times a year? How do i do this cause its time for me to recondition my bags?
keekee 38 I don't actually know if there is a way to tell. I reapply mine about every six months but I don't know if that is too frequent or not frequent enough.
Any advice for white Florentine? I have the white mini satchel with natural trim and the natural has stained the white a little around the bag... the leather cleaner didn't work.
Ali H unfortunately I have never been able to fix that problem. I stay away from light bags with dark contrasting trim now for that very reason. I know some people have used leather paint to touch their bags up but I have never tried that personally.
I have used a clean pencil eraser to take spots off of bone and natural florentine. (These were bags that had no treatment on them at all. Not sure if already conditioned bag would react.) I then buff it with my fingers and put Apple leather protector over it. I have even been successful taking red paint dots off of the bags that came from the factory with flaws. This trick is risky on dark colors. It worked for me on a red bag, but made a spot on a chestnut bag worse. If you choose to risk it, you may try it on the bottom or hidden spot first.
I totally agree with you about the Florentine! It has spoiled me. Other leathers feel so plastic to me now. Dooney's leather is amazing!
Baglove76 I'm soo spoiled! Even samba leather has such a lovely smell and softness to it! That's why other brands don't last long at my house ;)
Nice colors! Love them all. You have a fantastic collection!
Such a helpful video. I always feel like I'm maybe doing something wrong so this was super helpful!! That Ocean is gorgeous!!
Wow. It's crazy what a little "lotion" does for skin. :-) This was a fantastic tutorial! TFS
That Ocean bag 😍so gorgeous thanks for sharing your cleaning technic 👍🤗😍🇨🇦
Thank you. I've used boot oil on bags but I will give this a try on the Florentines. Agree, the Kelly green just keeps going. :-)
This is a great video. Thanks for posting it!! I know it was a year ago, but still great info.
Nice video. You have beautiful collection of handbags and all the colors are sooo gorgeous.😊😊😘😘👍👍TYFS and have a wonderful rest of the week.😊😊😘😘😘

Thanks for showing your cleaning routine. Did you ever experience yellowing with that aqua blue satchel?
Not yet, but it doesn’t see much sunlight or air. I keep it shelved and under cover most the time

Hi Mama Beech. Where did you get the tassel protectors that you had on your Kelly Green Florentine bag??? Thanks for your help.
Right here! amzn.to/3TvSW0t
I have this bag 💙Thanks for sharing🍀
Awesome vids thank you. Love from Down Under ❤️
How/and with what do you buff the bag? I’ve cleaned, conditioned and sprayed them, but don’t know how to do the last step which is buff?
would you recommend this product to try to remove a blue stain from the natural florentine satchel? 😭
I have never personally tried this, but I have heard many success stories; www.lovinmybags.com/product-page/byebyedye
Good luck!
You are awesome. ❌⭕️❌⭕️

D S amazon! Search for make up brush covers

keekee 38 great question! The rain gaurde does not appear to interfere with conditioning. You can condition right over it with no problem!
Mama Beech thank u! now when do I have to reapply rain guarse? or how will I know it's time to reapply rain guarse? thanks n advance! Love ur videos!

Do you ever use baby wipes first?
No I haven’t. I have heard mixed things about them so I don’t use them except in case of emergency.
What spray were you referring to?
Lourdes Armas the Apple Brand Rain and Stain Repellant spray. It's awesome stuff! You can buy it on Amazon.
