A requested wear and tear video on my Dooney & Bourke Florentine Satchel. Hope you enjoy and as always thank you so much for taking the time to watch :)
This is an older video, so it might be irrelevant, but I can tell you what I did with water drips. I have the same bag in the same color, and one day.. I was horrified that some condensation from my drinking glass dropped on my bag. I thought they would go away once the bag dried. They didn’t. I rubbed. That didn’t work either. The drips did bother me because they were right on the front. I was desperate. So what I did was very lightly scratch the drip with my nail. Since the drips darkened the leather, and scratches lighten it.. I just went for it. Scratches bother me less than drips. After I scratched the drip... I rubbed with my finger like I would any other scratch. It worked. The drip and the scratch completely disappeared. I’m not recommending the fix.. just sharing what worked for me.
I picked up the navy large florentine yesterday from a local Lady for $70 she used it for less than a week! I watched your videos previously to decide and i am IN LOVE WITH IT! 😊

I have the same bag........from eBay and because she spilt a bottle of nail polish inside.....I removed it with help from my daughter .......looked new 65.00.......that was 7 years ago....and ya looks used but ....better! Love love this bag!
I have the same bag in natural and I went out the other day when it was raining got it wet but once I was in the car it dried up in less than like 5 minutes no stain or anything.

I would leave it at home if it was completely pouring, as I would with any leather bag, but other than that I would not hesitate to carry her in the rain. I just find the lighter color Florentine leather, well the natural anyways haha, prone to showing water spots.

What happens if you get caught in the rain?? I'm discovered this bag literally an hour ago and really like it and am trying to do some research before making a decision on buying. So you aren't the only one that didn't know it would get watermarked. I didn't even know that could happen to handbags. But then again, I've never had a real leather bag before so that's probably why, haha. Can you suggest a good and reputable place to buy them used/second hand?
If there is a chance of rain I don't carry the natural color, but if I got caught in the rain then I would just live with the water spots haha. If you are worried about water spots etc. you could always go for a darker color like the Black, Navy or they have a gorgeous dark brown called t'moro that is stunning. For second hand probably ebay or if you are in the states I have heard that poshmark is really good, we just don't have access to it in Canada unfortunately. There is also www.ilovedooney.com which is an outlet for Dooney & Bourke online. www.dooney.com also has sales on its website so you could keep an eye out there too :) Good luck with your hunt and I hope you can find one that is perfect for you :)
I would say it still holds its shape for the most part, the leather has gotten softer and it does have a touch of slouch but not like a hobo bag or anything, just like the leather has gotten a bit softer. It doesn't really sag or anything that I have noticed.
I have a question: So I got a really good deal on a Florentine satchel in natural, today at TJMaxx. This poor beauty has some light scratches and the bottom looks a little dirty. What can I use to clean her up? They marked the bag down for me from $179 to $150 but they were adamant that the scratches were part of the bag's characteristics. I knew better. But now I haven't the faintest clue as to what to clean the bottom with. I have some leather conditioner I got from an equestrian place in OC but I'm hesitant to use it especially on Florentine. Any words of wisdom would be great =)
+Monica Garrison First of all a huge congrats on your new Florentine and what an amazing deal!!! As for cleaning her, I honestly don't know about cleaning the Florentine leather, I buffed my scratches out for the most part, but I know that you shouldn't put anything on the Florentine leather, conditioner wise, but I am not sure about cleaner. You should ask either Laurie of 49Ldavis or Marie from bagobeans they would definitely have more of an insight into cleaning the leather than I would and I would hate for anything to happen to your beautiful new bag as a result of using the wrong cleaning method :) Congrats again and good luck!!

I know that PecanTannedBeauty uses a product called Apple Care and she swears by it for her Florentines. But again, like you, I've heard not to use anything. But I look at it the same way as you - it adds character to her. :)

Monica Garrison I use Apple Care on my LV's and I love it. If it works on untreated vachetta, I don't think it will hurt the florentine leather. But you could probably just buff the scratches with a soft cloth

I haven't tried Apple brand as I am in Canada and it is not easy to get up here. Honestly I haven't used anything on this leather, conditioner wise, just give her a massage from time to time :)
I would just use my finger tips to rub at any marks or you can use a clean white cloth or the dust bag to rub any marks as well. They usually come right out. It is a relatively easy bag to care for :) If there are water spots though I think they will kind of blend in over time as the bag develops its patina. I don't find that they rub out. Enjoy your Florentine!
Bag twins on the black! You are lucky to have it in ocean too! That color is stunning!!! Natural is a beautiful color, one of my favorites, plus that beautiful patina she develops just adds to her beauty!
oh mine has the darker transition too was wondering if that was common. OH I never heard anyone say dusting the piping. I wonder if I need to on mine too. I keep mine in the dust bag but even still.
I would normally never have thought to dust piping lol I only noticed on an extreme close up. Mine also is kept in the dust bag so not sure how it got that dusty?

Really? That is weird, I am not sure about the sound issue unfortunately. Thank you so much for the bag compliments :) I don't put anything on this bag at all, I haven't had any dry leather issues or anything. If it gets any scratch marks etc on it they almost always buff out with a cotton cloth. I will also rub at any marks with my fingers as the natural oils in your skin work very well on Florentine leather. I would also suggest checking out Bago beans (I think that is the channel name, something like that anyways) she has a lot of videos on conditioning, cleaning and caring for different types of leathers :) good luck with your restoration project!

I don't believe so, plus the bag is already so heavy if you added a laptop your arm might fall off, you could try a "Smith" bag or the "Domed Satchel" with the longer handles :)

I did a little research (aka watch UA-cam videos) and Pecan Tanned Beauty does a demo application of Apple Conditioner on Florentine leather. So I tried it on my chestnut satchel. The leather just seemed a little dry - I have to say, it looked fantastic after application. Your bag doesn't look like it needs conditioning, but Apple Conditioner does claim to offer some water resistance, which you might like. All the best!

Oooo early congrats!!!! The medium is huge and very heavy once you've loaded it all up. I think the small would be a perfect size for everyday unless you really want a big bag. I have, so far, only been able to find Mediums but I would love to get my hands on the mini Florentine one day. Good luck deciding!! No matter what size you choose, you can't go wrong :)
I got this bag in medium. :) It's absolutely beautiful. She has bit of weight but really doesn't bother me, I have heavier 😂 . I also picked up a mini in light taupe and she's a beauty! I picked up a small black. She will be here tomorrow. I have the medium natural sitting next to me she's such a beauty. She's pre owned gently used and has a beautiful even patina. I am now a dooney fanatic!

Follow pecan dooney. she suggest apple rain guard so i treated this natural color as soon as i got it and it did not ruin or change the color.

Can you do an new update? Have you tried the Apple brand cleaner and conditioner? It’s recommended for this leather

It is the medium.
I am picking up I've of these next week. Can't decide if I need the medium or if small would suffice.
Oooo early congrats!!!! The medium is huge and very heavy once you've loaded it all up. I think the small would be a perfect size for everyday unless you really want a big bag. I have, so far, only been able to find Mediums but I would love to get my hands on the mini Florentine one day. Good luck deciding!! No matter what size you choose, you can't go wrong :)

If you're petite, I recommend the mini or small. Quality leather gets heavy when you load these up.
I got this bag in medium. :) It's absolutely beautiful. She has bit of weight but really doesn't bother me, I have heavier 😂 . I also picked up a mini in light taupe and she's a beauty! I picked up a small black. She will be here tomorrow. I have the medium natural sitting next to me she's such a beauty. She's pre owned gently used and has a beautiful even patina. I am now a dooney fanatic!
