Honestly your peacock is not only the prettiest ive seen because of his beautiful blue color but also the most mild mannered ive seen on youtube anyway.. when i saw the fish with him i was mind blown and even when he was live feeding he seemed to take his time, while many other ive seen bullrush and punch punch punch lol.. anyways what im trying to say is you have a very special guy there in bruce!
I have a 55 gallon tank and I have a mantis, 5 damsel’s, 1 fire fish and a variety of snails/crabs. So far, so good. We know we will lose a fish or two but I figured this would be the best way for him to live feed. We still feed him frozen food but I don’t have a pet store close by. Your videos helped me set up my first reef/mantis shrimp tank! Thank you!
That's great to hear! I do like to always have some crabs and snails in there in case Bruce fancies a snack. I think your fish will be fine, damsels seem to be good at looking after themselves the firefish is the only one I'd be slightly concerned about. I'm glad my videos could help!
Thank You for making so many great and helpful videos! Bruce is an amazing Mantis Shrimp! I recently got a Mantis Shrimp and have been trying to learn as much as I can. so once again Thank You!
Aye bro bro, that 1k subscriber mark has come and gone. And I am one of your newest subs, as I am just starting to learn about these little shrimps. I look forward to more of this super calm vibe you got goin on.
@@KungFuShrimp per shrimp, how much would you estimate you spend on food and care/upkeep a month? and on a skill scale, how hard is it to keep the scrimps alive? I hear they are fairly hardy.
Honestly I'm not too sure what my monthly upkeep costs are (I find I'm happier if I don't know). As far as skill level, while they are not the most difficult creatures I would not advise it to be your first saltwater critter, you could setup the tank but keep some easy fish in it for a year or so to make sure you know the basics of marine fish keeping before trying a mantis shrimp.
I adore your channel. It's one of the few channels that focuses on these fascinating lil critters that's still around and posting. Excellent cinematography, narration, overall amazing production quality. I'll be getting my second species of mantis, a lil peacock mantis, later this week and I really appreciate these videos you make. Thanks again and tell Bruce that he's a lovely chap
Hello sir ! I’m a new subscriber here on her journey to owning a peacock mantis shrimp ! I have seen numerous videos on UA-cam and by far yours are my favorite. They’re easy to understand , well informed and your peacock shrimp is a beauty. Love the accent too ! Thank you for your videos :)
I have 110 gallon tank. 2 pair red tail catfish. 2 pair black ghost. 2 pair lobster. 20 pair kuhli Loaches. And bunch of Tetras. And sorry I'm a beginner, misguided by aquarium owners. It was hell loose inside my tank. Removed the catfish. Lobsters are still there, despite being blood thirsty, they're too slow compared to my other fishes. Black ghost is a peaceful dove ❤️☺️
I have a 90 gallon with 70 lbs dry rock, 4 trigger fish, 2 scat, 4 eels, 1 dogface, 1 bird wrasse, and then added manthis shrimp. no issues at all. Manthis found his cave spot and only comes out during feeding. He doesnt harm the fish and the fish doesnt harm him. All living in harmony.
I had one for awhile and am hoping to get another, mine only ever killed one fish a tiny dwarf lion fish… I was nervous at first like you were only starting with a damsel but eventually had a good amount of fish in that tank
This is something I'm thinking about but as I only currently keep a Peacock mantis I need to figure out where to get footage of the others from. Thanks for watching!
I have been mantis shrimp mantis shrimp can live with fish happiness no problem. My tank 75 gallons and 10 fish one claim and anemones and a lot corals
I have a Maroon clownfish, bicolor damsel, and a devil damsel with my Peacock in a 65 gallon. Fun story, I tried a few chromis and Gacy did not like them. I watched him open water swim and punch one of the chromis. As the chromis was twitching stunned the Maroon grabbed it and fed it to the anemone. Eventually every chromis disappeared.
I wonder if he didn't go for the fish because they were in the tank before him and he didn't get to establish his home 🤔 if it was the other way around and you added the fish to his home things may have been different and he might have gone for the fish
Jus got my mantis shrimp! I see you have given them clams before but i could only find half shell clams but want him to work to open it. Is it ok to get clams from the market and Also what all do you feed bruce?
I do get most of Bruce's food from the fish store and the whole frozen cockles (clams) are meant for puffers normally I think. I have frozen mussels from the supermarket before but there is a possibility of parasites etc.
Man, well I’m getting a peacock soon and I have two small urchins. I’ll keep her well fed and hope she’ll not bother them. Also your channel has been the biggest reference on UA-cam for correct husbandry that I’ve been using. I’m not a fan of the way many other people online tend to keep them in bare tanks. Wanted to say thanks and happy reefing!
Fun fact there are actually 3 not 2 types of mantis shrimp, smashers, spearers, and the mysterious hatchet type Edit: there are even more! Like the spiked smasher

Thats a suprise cause triggers eat mantis
Hi! Love your calming voice explaining this. Would it be possible to house a Mantis in a 35 gallon 50x50x50 cube?
I would imagine its a mutual thing. These fish may act as look outs and Bruce as the literal muscle.
I had one for awhile and am hoping to get another, mine only ever killed one fish a tiny dwarf lion fish… I was nervous at first like you were only starting with a damsel but eventually had a good amount of fish in that tank
Thank you for the great video! I hope I can get a peacock mantis shrimp one day :)
They are amazing creatures but I would not recommend unless you have experience keeping marine aquariums, they can be a little tricky.
This is what I was wondering , think I’ll get a tank soon but wanted to be able to keep more than a shrimp in it lol
You should make a video on the different types of mantis shrimp
This is something I'm thinking about but as I only currently keep a Peacock mantis I need to figure out where to get footage of the others from. Thanks for watching!
@@KungFuShrimp that's fair, could you just dub over videos of Bruce and occasionally show pictures

Thank you I'm glad you liked it!
I have been mantis shrimp mantis shrimp can live with fish happiness no problem. My tank 75 gallons and 10 fish one claim and anemones and a lot corals
There is no guarantee but with the right fish and the right mantis shrimp it can be done 🦐

You can never be sure, one reason I won't be adding a gem tang any time soon 😁
Have you thought about putting in a cleaner wrasse, I’ve seen things saying that they may actually be tolerated by Bruce
The main issue with adding fish is not actually Bruce but more the other fish, they are nutters!
@@KungFuShrimp lol
I like how everyone says mantis shrimp are savages and thoroughly enjoy beating things to death 😆

Yes and no. The damsel was in the tank before Bruce but the sixline wrasse was added well after. Thanks for watching!
Love the channel

I do also feed frozen fish I also get from the lfs
Look at the other mantis shrimp vedio on you tube. He has a black colored fish.
If i got a mantis shrimp. Would it eat the other tinier shrimp and hermit crabs? Or snails?
Yes all of those would be on a mantis shrimps menu potentially.
Is it hard to take care of the chemicals for the mantis shrimp
How much for a tank setup good enough for a mantis shrimp would you say.
Where did u buy your shrimp?
How is Bruce is doing? It is been a while.
Sorry life has been getting in the way again but I'm hoping to have a new video up in the next few weeks which will have some massive news!
@@KungFuShrimp does he ever use the top tube
He does although it is pretty rare
Hold on! At the end. Did that crab just stick a pebble on himself?!
Yup it's a decorator crab, they stick stuff to themselves to help camouflage themselves.
Can you keep urchins with Mantis shrimp?
It certainly didn't work for me took a few days before it was lunch

I love bruce
What type of filtration should I use if I don’t use a sump?
I would probably go with a decent sized cannister filter so you can get some phosphate media and possibly some carbon as well as sponges etc.
Fun fact there are actually 3 not 2 types of mantis shrimp, smashers, spearers, and the mysterious hatchet type
Edit: there are even more! Like the spiked smasher
You've just sent me down a Google rabbit hole looking up info on hatchets . Very interesting stuff!

Bruce is a good boy!
How to breed them
I'm not aware of anyone who is captive breeding mantis cshrimp at the moment, hopefully in the future though.
Bruce is a beautiful
"and why i chose them" you didnt chose them burce did!
To be fair I did choose them but then Bruce chose to let them live ;-)
