    I've adopted your cross wind setup, launch and landing methods for over a year now. There's no faster, safer or more convenient methods, and they gave me the confidence to kite on days when few other kiters are out, giving me more time on the water. I've coached these methods to other kiters on the beach too. If everyone adopted the cross wind setup especially, it would make crowded kiting beaches more user friendly. Thanks Steve. 👍🏼👍🏼

      It still amazes me that so many locals watch me rig faster than them, easily self launch safely, and at the end of a downwinder confidently self land and yet only a couple have adopted these techniques. Really stoked it has helped you and that you are spreading the word.

      @@TheStevemccormack I'll keep trying to get the guys in Btany Bay to adopt this. I kinda enjoy the strange looks they give me while setting up side-on 🤙🏼

    Tried it and works like a charm! The best and safest method to self land a kite. Just make sure that your safety line is top center line.

      Great to hear mate, this is definitely the safest way to self land, no risk of losing fingers or damaging hands. Plus you get used to using the main safety release and know where it is.

    Looks lovely can’t wait to try it out, but what do you do if your safety line is at the bottom instead?
    I know you could switch it by doing it on the opposite side of the wind window, but that might not be safe is it?

    • @TheStevemccormack

      The short answer is that this method will not work as shown if the flag out is the bottom front line. This method requires that you pre plan which side you will be landing on, its that simple. The method will work if you have room to land on the opposite side, but often you don't.

    A knot or connector on my flag out line, close to the release point, gets caught at the bar and I have to put pressure on the bar to get that spot in the line to pass through the bar. Is there something I can put on that point on the line to get it to run freely? I was sold this bar second hand and I often wonder it that was why? I try not to pull the safety due to this issue. It's a North Navigator 2021. Nice video Peace.

      This method only works 100% on an Ozone bar. The North bar has a multi wall plastic centre line with the flag out line running through it, and that the problem, the chamber the flag out runs through is a tight fit. I don't recommend this method unless the bar you are using has a friction free release line.

    Great video! Does it work with a high Y bar aswell? Core, duotone etc.

    • @TheStevemccormack
      @TheStevemccormack Рік тому +1

      No it doesn't work like the video, but its still safer to deploy the core or duotone QR to land on your own especially in stronger winds above 20 knots

    Does this work with the Ufo from Slingshot too?

    • @TheStevemccormack
      @TheStevemccormack Рік тому

      HI, yes it will work with any inflatable kite, but you should practice in light winds first to refine your technique. Important points to check is that your bar is in good condition and in particular the flag out line. The Flag out line must be free running, and slingshot bars usually are. Its important that the flag out bungee is in good condition, especially in stronger winds.

    good vid. can you tell me why sometimes when self landing the kite wont drop front edge down onto sand, instead it lofts up then normally floats downwind a little then drops. it works, but is a little nerve racking sometimes! Ive been trying to work out why it does it sometimes and others not. thanks.

    • @TheStevemccormack

      Wish I could watch you when it does not go as planned like in the video. Keep practicing, the key is to turn the kite down, let go of the bar and pop the chicken loop release and pull on the flag out line all in one quick sequence, any delay, then it can hang and flip over, but it will still land safely. If it does not sit down perfectly then just walk upwind to shorten the kites trip across part of the window before it turns and sits down by itself.

      @@TheStevemccormack just noticed that you turn kite downwards. will try that. yes couple steps upwind and if the kite has lofted it generally drops and behaves. thanks!

      @@rohinedwards7572 Yep def give it a turn down before letting go and popping the safety, then pull the flag out line.
