Brian Jones didn't have an idyllic child hood: his sister, named Pamela, died at a young age. His parents, especially his Mum, was harsh on the boy. The father was an engineer and a musician. Brian's upbringing was incredibly strict. No love from either parents. I don't believe that he was totally to blame, however, he wasn't strong enough to resist the temptation of substance abuse. As far as the children and the mothers of his children, I read he did make an effort to support them but the parents asked him to leave them alone and they would take care of everything! Love heals all and that is an ingredient that Brian Jones never received from an infant, toddler, youth, and adulthood. Peace & Cheers.

Yes. They are just living in the past. They can't produce music on stage as a 5 piece. They need a wealth of extra musicians. It's a fact. The last concert I went to had so many back up musos I realised that's why the ticket price was so high because they looked like corpses except for Mick who looked like a corpse having an epileptic fit! They had to pay them all. Ofcourse none of the extra guitarists were introduced at all. I mean, Keith and Ronnie's solos were being heard when their hands weren't even moving! Poor backup musos probably got paid peanuts!
Watched the movie "Stoned" today about Brian Jones' death. So sad that a founder of The Rolling Stones had to die that way. I never knew that much sadness was in The Stones' history. I knew they changed members over the years but never knew it contained that much drama.
Why all this hate on any member of the stones? Brian Jones was a force and without him there would have been no under my thumb or mother's little helper, especially the way he made them sound. My first introduction to the stones was '84 with undercover. I loved it, every video was on Night Tracks and when I told my dad 'bout this "new" band with the cool videos he bought me the record (which he hated) he showed me his stones collection and I couldn't believe they were as old as they were cuz how cool their songs and vids were. That's very democratic of you. I was 9-years old in 1964 when my Dad bought their first LP for me. I was also lucky to see Brian with the band in 1966. He was something to behold in concert! I remember reading how Brian was leaving the Stones, the band he founded, and I was not happy about it. Then the unspeakable happened a few weeks later. I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news that Brian had died. To say I was devastated is an understatement. It took a bit of time for the truth about the shabby way Brian was treated to surface. Mick and Keith have made a career out of denying Brian's musical legacy and tarnishing his reputation as a man.I suppose it is to expected since they've been living a lie since Brian died. I detest them both for their vile behavior. I'm am not so democratic.

And they DID become "just" a rock band post Brian but they DID have a multitude of hits under their belt , no denying . Brilliant stage presence in the vein of Queen or ACDC . Having said that I always thought Mick was overrated and couldn't for the life of me see what others saw - never thought of him as a Bowie or an Iggy more like a try-hard but there you go .

He made up for it by being one of th most energetic stage performers in rock history...but consider the 70s wherein you could go see someone like Daltry belt out high note after high note AND deliver great stage prsence. There are a handful of really good post Brian songs, but the bigger hits from the 70s and early 80s are standard rock fare.
Actualy, Brian was quite talented. A self taught musician, he played a variety of different instruments on many stones songs such as: marimba, sitar, piano, organ, recorder, harmonica, cello, saxaphone, and guitar, giving much character and color to those rather plain tunes. He also was a great slide guitarist. Some of his greatest slide work was on, No Expectations, Jigsaw Puzzle, Little Red Rooster. He also did a great job on the Stone's cover of Mona.
The level of jealousy of Jones by Richards fans amazes me. It seems from what I've read about Mick and Keith is they were jealous of the attention that he naturally drew.
Brian was "quite talented?" That's like saying George Best was fairly competent. You forgot his Appalachian dulcimer work on Lady Jane. Quite talented? He was one of the greatest geniuses the music world has ever seen.

That is an amazing interview to watch in 2022. I remember them so well from that time. Brian really looks great and he sounds very sharp and well poised. He had such a charisma about him. I mean Mick was really cool as the front man you can't deny him that but Brian was really something else. It was amazing to see a band with two members with that type of personal magnetism but in those years Brian dominated over Mick and the others kind of as you see in this video. Smart, sharp, well spoken, that Is how I remember him when I would see them on American shows.. In addition he dressed sharply and creatively which added to his stage persona. He made such a huge impression and this video, in spite of its age, brings that all back so well. Very much appreciated. No matter what he will always be thought of as the No 1 Rolling Stone at least to me even some 50+ years after his death. Great job with that Sprezztura!.
Love the stones miss Brian Jones but Tamela Motown was in the north of England along with Northern Soul. Dance halls like the Mecca were playing all Motown music. And they came over from America to play at the Wakefield Theatre Club they were great.
They are gentleman. I've learned things about them that are respectable. Charlie cried when the call came to the studio that Brian was dead. Charlie started crying. You know what Mick said like the callous sell-out he is: "It must go on." Charlie admitted that they stole the Stones from Brian years later. Only Bill and Charlie attended the funeral. The whole affair was callous and shoddy.

Pretty interesting power dynamics: Brian dominant, Mick trying (and failing) to butt in and appear as smart, Keith non-existent. I'm even wondering if Brian's apparent shortcomings when it comes to songwriting had not more to do with paranoia and lack of confidence and being isolated from bandmates. It's not clear from their early efforts the Glimmer Twins had any more natural talent for it, and we know from them and the Beatles how critical collaboration is for it to blossom.

His former bandmates have said that Brian was the best musician in the band. He could play an instrument he'd never even seen before within 20 minutes. I'm paraphrasing but at their induction to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame Jagger mentioned something along those lines about Brian - how he added his special kind of magic to some of their greatest songs through his unique musical gifts.
Brian wrote plenty that he wasn't credited for due to the Glimmer's obnoxious habit of plagiarizing the work of others, namely Brian Jones, bill Wyman and later, Mick Taylor. Do some research and quit drinking the GlimmerAid.
How 'white' of Jagger to credit Brian for anything considering the fact Brian taught him how to play the harmonica and basically everything he knows. This jerk couldn't even read music at that point in time and I'm not he does even now. No, I think Brian precisely could not handle that the control of the band was wrested from his hands by Oldham to Jagger and Richards. It was HIS band after all. The fact that Oldham encouraged Jagger to be a frontman and Brian's reluctance to submit his songs to the band or inability to write commercial pop songs sealed his fate in the band. Jones was never one to stand in the background.
They didn't like American attitudes, but they didn't seem to mind taking American money to play here. Brian Jones is a perfect example of why a person can be very bright, yet very self-destructive at the same time. He had an IQ in the 130's but Bill Wyman once wrote: "Very influential, very important, and then slowly lost it - highly intelligent - and just kind of wasted it and blew it all away."
All right, I will settle this. Brian Jones founded the band. Musically, he was great. His fashion, and demeanor to the press, were great. The only issue was of course, the emotional problems which also cause him to not be nice to bandmates, according to interviews of other Stones. And he could not handle the fame of a pop star, according to Jagger. Personally, I like the Jones era the best of all Stones material.

Yes. They are just living in the past. They can't produce music on stage as a 5 piece. They need a wealth of extra musicians. It's a fact. The last concert I went to had so many back up musos I realised that's why the ticket price was so high because they looked like corpses except for Mick who looked like a corpse having an epileptic fit! They had to pay them all. Ofcourse none of the extra guitarists were introduced at all. I mean, Keith and Ronnie's solos were being heard when their hands weren't even moving! Poor backup musos probably got paid peanuts!

Watched the movie "Stoned" today about Brian Jones' death. So sad that a founder of The Rolling Stones had to die that way. I never knew that much sadness was in The Stones' history. I knew they changed members over the years but never knew it contained that much drama.
Why all this hate on any member of the stones? Brian Jones was a force and without him there would have been no under my thumb or mother's little helper, especially the way he made them sound. My first introduction to the stones was '84 with undercover. I loved it, every video was on Night Tracks and when I told my dad 'bout this "new" band with the cool videos he bought me the record (which he hated) he showed me his stones collection and I couldn't believe they were as old as they were cuz how cool their songs and vids were. That's very democratic of you. I was 9-years old in 1964 when my Dad bought their first LP for me. I was also lucky to see Brian with the band in 1966. He was something to behold in concert! I remember reading how Brian was leaving the Stones, the band he founded, and I was not happy about it. Then the unspeakable happened a few weeks later. I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news that Brian had died. To say I was devastated is an understatement. It took a bit of time for the truth about the shabby way Brian was treated to surface. Mick and Keith have made a career out of denying Brian's musical legacy and tarnishing his reputation as a man.I suppose it is to expected since they've been living a lie since Brian died. I detest them both for their vile behavior. I'm am not so democratic.

Having said that I always thought Mick was overrated and couldn't for the life of me see what others saw - never thought of him as a Bowie or an Iggy more like a try-hard but there you go .
@@chateaupig826 Vocally Mick has almost nothign to offer. He made up for it by being one of th most energetic stage performers in rock history...but consider the 70s wherein you could go see someone like Daltry belt out high note after high note AND deliver great stage prsence.
There are a handful of really good post Brian songs, but the bigger hits from the 70s and early 80s are standard rock fare.

You can tell Brian Jones was the leader of The Rolling Stones at that time.
Actualy, Brian was quite talented. A self taught musician, he played a variety of different instruments on many stones songs such as: marimba, sitar, piano, organ, recorder, harmonica, cello, saxaphone, and guitar, giving much character and color to those rather plain tunes. He also was a great slide guitarist. Some of his greatest slide work was on, No Expectations, Jigsaw Puzzle, Little Red Rooster. He also did a great job on the Stone's cover of Mona.
On Jiggsaw Puzzle it's Keith on slide guitar, crazy the level of ignorance with Brian's fans.
The level of jealousy of Jones by Richards fans amazes me. It seems from what I've read about Mick and Keith is they were jealous of the attention that he naturally drew.
Brian was "quite talented?" That's like saying George Best was fairly competent. You forgot his Appalachian dulcimer work on Lady Jane. Quite talented? He was one of the greatest geniuses the music world has ever seen.

That is an amazing interview to watch in 2022. I remember them so well from that time. Brian really looks great and he sounds very sharp and well poised. He had such a charisma about him. I mean Mick was really cool as the front man you can't deny him that but Brian was really something else. It was amazing to see a band with two members with that type of personal magnetism but in those years Brian dominated over Mick and the others kind of as you see in this video. Smart, sharp, well spoken, that Is how I remember him when I would see them on American shows.. In addition he dressed sharply and creatively which added to his stage persona. He made such a huge impression and this video, in spite of its age, brings that all back so well. Very much appreciated. No matter what he will always be thought of as the No 1 Rolling Stone at least to me even some 50+ years after his death. Great job with that Sprezztura!.
Love the stones miss Brian Jones but Tamela Motown was in the north of England along with Northern Soul. Dance halls like the Mecca were playing all Motown music. And they came over from America to play at the Wakefield Theatre Club they were great.
They are gentleman. I've learned things about them that are respectable. Charlie cried when the call came to the studio that Brian was dead. Charlie started crying. You know what Mick said like the callous sell-out he is: "It must go on." Charlie admitted that they stole the Stones from Brian years later. Only Bill and Charlie attended the funeral. The whole affair was callous and shoddy.

Pretty interesting power dynamics: Brian dominant, Mick trying (and failing) to butt in and appear as smart, Keith non-existent. I'm even wondering if Brian's apparent shortcomings when it comes to songwriting had not more to do with paranoia and lack of confidence and being isolated from bandmates. It's not clear from their early efforts the Glimmer Twins had any more natural talent for it, and we know from them and the Beatles how critical collaboration is for it to blossom.

His former bandmates have said that Brian was the best musician in the band. He could play an instrument he'd never even seen before within 20 minutes. I'm paraphrasing but at their induction to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame Jagger mentioned something along those lines about Brian - how he added his special kind of magic to some of their greatest songs through his unique musical gifts.
Brian wrote plenty that he wasn't credited for due to the Glimmer's obnoxious habit of plagiarizing the work of others, namely Brian Jones, bill Wyman and later, Mick Taylor. Do some research and quit drinking the GlimmerAid.
How 'white' of Jagger to credit Brian for anything considering the fact Brian taught him how to play the harmonica and basically everything he knows. This jerk couldn't even read music at that point in time and I'm not he does even now. Keefy's RRHOF was an absolute disgrace...he has some serious guilt issues that cloud his very selective memory and judgement.

It's crazy to think how musically talented he was. He really was a genius. Yeah, it's a tragic story. There just wasn't any help for a guy like him, whether it be for his emotional issues or his drug addiction. Also, his band mates didn't understand and they probably gave him a harder time than he deserved because he was so fragile. These days he'd be shipped off to rehab, be put under the care of a shrink and never have died at such a young age.
No, I think Brian precisely could not handle that the control of the band was wrested from his hands by Oldham to Jagger and Richards. It was HIS band after all. The fact that Oldham encouraged Jagger to be a frontman and Brian's reluctance to submit his songs to the band or inability to write commercial pop songs sealed his fate in the band. Jones was never one to stand in the background.
They didn't like American attitudes, but they didn't seem to mind taking American money to play here. Brian Jones is a perfect example of why a person can be very bright, yet very self-destructive at the same time. He had an IQ in the 130's but Bill Wyman once wrote: "Very influential, very important, and then slowly lost it - highly intelligent - and just kind of wasted it and blew it all away."
All right, I will settle this. Brian Jones founded the band. Musically, he was great. His fashion, and demeanor to the press, were great. The only issue was of course, the emotional problems which also cause him to not be nice to bandmates, according to interviews of other Stones. And he could not handle the fame of a pop star, according to Jagger. Personally, I like the Jones era the best of all Stones material.
