  • A multimeter is a great tool for DIY projects around the house. The multimeter does not need to be a tool only for specialists. As a matter of fact, once you learn a few multimeter basics, you'll wonder how you ever did without one. Knowing how to use a multimeter opens all kinds of doors. Whether you are looking for multimeter tips and basics for beginners or you have experience with multimeters, you will find a few good suggestions for projects around the house where a multimeter can really help!
We received this multimeter from Kaiweets HT118A for review. You can find this multimeter on Amazon:
KAIWEETS HT118A Multimeter with Portable Case

A multimeter will find many uses around the house - for example testing typical 1.5 volt (like AA batteries, AAA batteries, C batteries, and D batteries) and 9 volt batteries.
In this video we show how to test your car battery and the car's battery charging system so that you have a good picture of the health of the car battery.
The NCV or non-contact voltage indicator is a very handy tool to make you aware of hidden electrical lines that can be detected with the NCV feature on the multimeter.
And as tools of all kinds move increasingly toward battery power, you can use this multimeter to keep tabs on the health of all the different tools.
And continuity can also be tested on a variety of items such as light bulbs and water heater heating elements to help diagnose potential issues.
Multi-meters have many other features. But the typical DIY'er can find just these basic uses of the multimeter quite helpful as they learn those other features over time.

      Hey Lori,
Yes -they are nice to have around. Cost for this model is $30-40 . Other kinds can be cheaper or more expensive - depends on brand, features and model.
      Thx for watching!

Well, good explanation; however, to get the correct reading on batteries, you need to put them on load.

to test a battery you use a battery tester that places a resistor load. DMM is not 100% useful for batts.
    Good vid.

KAIWEETS is a dangerous disaster all around, and this particular review starts with a trivial aside, always the sign of a bad teacher, even failing to tell you the temperature sampler uses dedicated wires not used for any other work. Just awful. Btw, the margin of error for the temperature gauge is substantial, and goes unmentioned here. Of course.
Good teaching always begins with an overview of the material, the context, and the main subjects or features. This is not good teaching.
The manual is outright dangerous to novices. It's full of typos, errors, and omissions. The translation is laughably bad. The icons are bizarre. "Hz%"? Seen that around a lot?
4:00 - good god. 1.35 Volts isn't remotely "dead." On older multimeters, 1.35V puts you comfortably in the green. It's 90% of a full, 1.50V charge.
