I was a big fan of The Tigers growing up, I lived in Toledo, just across the Michigan border in Ohio. Nice to watched the players I grew up with as a kid, and the voice of Ernie Harwell, he was a great broadcaster.
Every time I see Catfish Hunter, I am reminded what a cruel bastard ALS is. Such a great pitcher who could really paint the corners could no longer use his arms near the end of his life.
it's good to hear George Kell calling the action in Detroit. I grew up with his voice during the 1980's when he was near the end of his broadcasting career. His inflection on certain words, you just know it's George. Same thing with Ernie Harwell. They're both Southerners and that inflection never leaves you. Got to admit, I never heard George so animated on some of those calls. By the looks of it, he called the early innings of the games in the 1970's
Norm wore a protective liner under his cap when he batted against right-handers, he did wear a helmet against left-handers......go to Game 6 of the 1968 World Series, he had an at-bat where he got a hit against a left-hander, and the helmet is clearly visible......
Okay , some one out here help 1972 too now how much years is that i was born the same year , anybody remember reggie candy. It was a treat for me and big chew in. The pouch bubblegum ah the memories
It was! Didn't they practice throwing back then? Between the myriad errant throws, the gaping hole at third for the Tigers, and Freehan being a shadow of his former self it's a miracle the Tigers won even one game. In the end, though, they were some horrible umpiring away from winning this series.
Lol...that Billy Martin....tries to get after Campaneris after Bert throws the bat at the head of Lerrin LaGrow.....but I guess his cap falling off his head was a higher priority
Fantastic baseball...especially the games at beautiful Tiger stadium...Real baseball
I miss that ballpark terribly.
Great series! Thanks!

George Kell sounds exactly the same as I remember him sounding as a kid growing up in the '80's.
“There’s a long drive, way back...it could be, and it is, home run...”

Beautiful videotape!
It's funny to see Norm Cash hitting without a batting helmet! 😃
Even funnier seeing him come to bat with a piano leg during one of Nolan Ryan's no hitters.
Dario Witer One of the last players allowed to do so.

SP Mickey Lolich pitching in the 11th in Game 1!
U read my mind #twonaqtr !!!
❤️ micky lolich
Yard lines from the Raiders' use of the Coliseum are still visible on the infield in the games in Oakland.
Looks like WJBK has this entire series in its video archives?
This ALCS was a World Series
Then why were the stands half-empty, especially in Detroit?
Check out REG at 9:31/17:54 seconds in, and at 14:02/17:54, out of the box to firstbase , that about as fast as anyone in the game.
Hard fought 5 game series
The A's were far better than the aging Tigers, but it was a close series right to the end. Martin was a great manager.
The 1972 Detroit Tigers were an Aging Team of Veterans and this was "Their Last Dance".
... and the end of Game 5?!

That double play that the umpire called safe at first, he was out !that cost the Tigers going to the World Series!!
I vividly remember the game where "Campy" threw his bat at The Tigers Pitcher!!
Lol Billy Martin was always fighting
Lolich in the 11th!
6:50 All hell breaks loose.
@MANCHESTER UNITED Wuhan virus is huge too...In 240+ countries..So?
Bert Campaneros throwing that bat . i have always remembered that .
No excuse but the pitcher was obviously aiming for his feet.
@@moby628 that's why Bert threw bat.. hello
Allot of wild pitches and pass ed balls.
I’m thinking you failed Spelling 1A.
Are you doing something similar to the Super Bowl Post Temporada? That would be awesome with older clips like this from the MLB past post-seasons.
He was out at first on the double play he tagged him right in the back!
The greatest manager of all time, Billy Martin, almost managed the Tigers into the World Series against a better Oakland team.
That was one badly fielded LCS. Not a cloud in the sky either.

@@rpc717 Maybe Billy Martin's finest season as manager, getting them where he did.
Billy is such a tough guy when 6 people are holding him back. They should have let him go since he ordered Campy to get hit.
You obviously don’t know Billy Martin that well. Yes, he was a legit tough guy. If he had broken free he would have whipped Campy’s ass.
epstien crushed it
