We're lucky KSP2 ever got out of development hell, to be honest.
It had an initial release date of Q1 2020, and changed studios *4 TIMES* (Squad > Star Theory > Private Division > Intercept Games) in the middle of development, with a lot of the work getting lost each time. I can guarantee you that Windows 10 was not a minimum requirement back in Q1 2020. At some point *they had to start over from scratch.* I suspect the only reason it got released in its current state is that during a shareholder meeting it showed up as a glaringly in-the-red project that was initially a 1 year project that has now gone on 4 years old, and there was a threat to cancel the project entirely.

@@fpshobbs All the more valid, I'd say! Star Theory didn't develop the first KSP, and so didn't really have the muscle memory of how to code a game like this. It might as well have been better had Squad did at least *some* work before handing it over.
Also Private Division at large *did* work on the game before Intercept Games was put to the task - that is, while they were in talks to purchase Star Theory, but never did, instead opting to set up the new studio that was named Intercept Games.
      My original point stands valid.

I can’t wait for the game to actually work
the shaders, although comically unoptimized, are much better looking than modded ksp1
The clouds look great and fit the style of the game better than most modded options
The parametric wings are amazing, although an adjustment system more similar to SimplePlanes would be nice
The UI does need a lot of work though, for example when you mouse over the speed and altitude displays there isn’t much to indicate that you can switch between the different options, and they also just feel more cluttered, I’m also not a fan of how 2d the new nav ball looks
The new part menu is a cool idea, but it needs to be more readable (it also needs to show you how much damn fuel you have, and where it is), it would probably work better as a supplement to the original system rather than a replacement
Once the lag, instability, and readability issues are fixed ksp2 is going to be awesome, and I can’t wait for BDarmoury in multiplayer

The Early Access version of KSP2 is buggier than I'd like, but I know it'll get better. I've teleported the KSC to Mun orbit, but I've also managed to land at the Mun Arch and the Minmus Statue and return to Kerbin on both missions. My advice is quicksave often.

The hate train has taken full precedence as usual but I bought it on sale at 36% off full price so if you look around you don't have to pay the full RRP But I will agree that the pricing is pretty high still. Ive built a few rockets and flown to a few planets and landed without a hitch. plenty of bugs to fix and the odd textures do pull the fps to 10fps which is quite bad but that is obviously going to be fixed. I look forward to the updates it's just a shame it's taken so long for them to get to this stage.

Its running the same even on the top cards that are way more powerful than what im running so I would expect it to be a lot better eventually for most. Even at 20fps the rocket is perfectly fluid and smooth even when flipping out so while far from ideal, its still perfectly playable for me at least.

Nobody expected a finished game on release. We expected a fairly buggy experience. However, I think we expected a bit more for a cost of $50. With regards to the hardware specs, there seem to be some crazy inefficiencies with the rendering pipeline of the game right now. Like you can get almost the exact same performance between a 6700 XT and a 4090. I get the impression they were mainly testing the game on something like a 3070, seeing how low the framerate was, and concluding that less powerful GPUs wouldn't be much good but that hasn't really turned out to be the case. There's a massive bottleneck in the engine somewhere meaning that the GPU is mostly waiting around for the game to give it something to render.
To be honest I think the real "minimum" requirement is to have 8GB of VRAM because the game is insatiable for it, so I'm sure there'll be people out there running it on something like an RX 480
Edit: also people have taken for granted how much longevity Pascal GPUs have had, which are really an anomaly. The minimum requirements for KSP 2 cite a GTX 1070 which is 7 years old. For reference, when KSP 1 went into early access in 2013 a 7 year old midrange card was an ATI Radeon X1600

The early versions of KSP were free. Just download and play. It quickly built a ravenous fan base hungry to learn more about space and coding. The game quickly developed with the help of a large community of modders and testers, all working for free in and for something they believed in. It was super fun to be a part of that. Fast forward to 2023 and what we have now is a $50 corporate release of a game based on the original that will NEVER even come close to the original. No way can this current group of corporate approved developers match the intensity and desire of 1000's of players and modders and developers working and playing for fun and internet reputation points. The only thing left for new players to do now is grift off youtube doomer vids. Pathetic.

Especially given that I have little faith in this project under such circumstances. How can we know that Intercept Games won't just go the bare minimum route with this game, grab the money and run? Certainly doesn't help that some annoying issues or even game-breaking bugs never got resolved in KSP.

No Man's Sky was improved by the devs a lot over the years, to a point where they more than made up for the janky release, this is a good example of a dev making good on their promises. There's dozens of games where this is not the case.
And even so, if the devs want to pour their heart and soul into this tilte and make it as polished as they can, when their publisher goes "No", that's the end of that. Intercept Games does not enjoy as much of my confidence as Squad would and their outright predatory release scheme of asking a full retail price for a broken pre-alpha title is not boosting that already low confidence.
The last 2/3s of your post are... to put it mildly: complete and utter nonsense.
      @ scond paragraph:
KSP2 has been in developement for 4 years. KSP started developement in January 2011 saying it was "completely contentless" in 2015 is a bold-faced lie, given that by that time, you already had career mode, a full solar system, dozens of parts and so on. No Mun or planets in KSP by 2015? How about a video from 2013 (almost exactly 2 years after the very first version of KSP was ever compiled) of someone going to Duna? ua-cam.com/video/Pt41aFBLqVE/v-deo.html
Said video also handily disproves your claim about the "colored land" water without physics.
If you want to defend KSP2, fine, but don't do so by trashtalking KSP with blatantly false claims. I've played KSP since before the official demo (V0.13.3) was released, I think I played a version between 0.7.3 and 0.10 for the first time, so I know what you wrote is nonsense.
      @ third paragraph:
I don't want to be rude, but what you said is (once more, to put it mildly): bewildering to me. It has to be the most ridiculous excuse made for KSP2 I have read so far.
You're basically saying "Well, developers back then didn't know they could rip off their customers with inflated prices nowhere near the value of their product" and you expect that to make KSP2 and its devs look _better?!_
That's some peak Stockholm Syndrome right there mate.

      lol
Lots of goalpost-shifting going on here. I will address these points individually:
      *@Version 1:*
As should be clear, I refuted your claim about KSP being "contentless" in 2015.
      *@Version 2:*
My original post already was based on the 2015 version of KSP and I posted a video of the 2013 version that refuted your original claim about KSP being "contentless" after 4 years by showing its advanced state after just 2 years. So upon realizing that, you moved on to goalpost:
      *@ Version 3:*
_"I'm talking about 2011 version"_ No you didn't:
_"if you were to compare by how long it took to get ksp 2 developed to current state. and compare it with the state of ksp 1 in same amount of development time."_ was your original claim.
      So let's do just that:
KSP started developement after October 2010, incidently, December 2014 saw the release of KSP's Beta Version that already featured the full Kerbol system, sandbox mode, science mode and a full career mode. It also ran pretty stable and smoothly - especially compared to KSP2's current state.
By 2015, we'd get the full game, Version 1.0, released with such features as procedural fairings, specialized Kerbal abilities and so on.
KSP2 offers barely any of the features from KSP 1.0. And it runs like shit even on high end PCs.
We can't compare a non-existent hypothetical 4-year-in-the-future version of KSP2 with KSP from several years ago. Do you realize how utterly silly your line of argumentation is, when you ask me to wait until 2027 for KSP2 to catch up with or hopefully outperform KSP's state in 2015? Oh boy, sure hope that game will be able to match KSP's state from a decade ago by the end of the decade lmao.
_"you are talking complete nonsense. cherry picking the version that was already in development for longer than current version of ksp 2."_
This is thoroughly debunked, I very diligently tailored my reply to your claims as can be seen above. I showed that KSP had more to offer after 2 years than you claim it did after 4 years by even posting a video. After 4 years, KSP2 offers less than KSP did in the same amount of time.
Also top notch discussion behaviour: You accuse me of "cherry picking" meanwhile you lie about your original claim and cherry pick the first (even unreleased!) version of KSP yourself and insinuate that KSP by that time was longer in developement than KSP2 is by now, which is evidently false and would have taken less than a minute to check. I know, cause I _did._
_"stockholm syndrome? not at all mate. you are just mad that some people understand what early access is. and how capitalism works. you dont need to buy the game in early access. thats what their marketing team is aiming for. they want you to buy it on full release, when they raise the price to 60 euros"_
How so? I understand perfectly well what Early Access is and that it's a way to monetize the alpha- and beta-testing phase of a game. I've often supported games via Early Access, such as (surprise surprise) KSP, but other titles such as Valheim or Nebulous: Fleet Command as well. Neither of these three games went for full retail price on less than 20% of a game, that's also super buggy and poorly optimized, though.
Unless you've got short term memory loss, you should be aware that my issue isn't with a game being monetized during Early Access, it's with the pricetag that this game carries in particular.
And my behaviour and reaction to this is applied capitalism at its finest:
I look at a product and it's affiliated business practices and decide whether it's worth my money or not.
In this case, I come to the conclusion that its current state is nowhere near worth its price and that an inflated price later on with more polished versions is also rather questionable (especially given that there's quite a lot of product cannibalization going on with KSP). At best, I might buy it at 50% discount sometime down the line in a Steam Sale. If optimizing income was the publisher's goal, he'd utterly fail, cause my decision to buy the game has been (at best!) postponed until the game is playable _and_ there's a sale to pick it up cheaper. If I ever even bother to buy it in the first place.
I would also question the wisdom of inflating the asking price for a very barebone game, that's plagued with bugs and poor optimization, that makes the game only playable to something like 30% of Steam users. That is going to drive away quite many sales and people that buy an unpolished game for 10 bucks will be much more charitable in their reviews than when they pay full price and receive a turd of a game.
For someone who uses the term capitalism so lightly, you surely do not consider the ramifications of the high asking price and the rather significant influence it can have on a game's future and thus profitability. I will gladly explain to you further details.

KSP 2 is in a minimal viable product state currently with the majority of the infrastructure built in to it's foundation. Anyone buying an early access product should already know that upon purchase you become essentially a playtester for the devs to collect data and feedback from. If the price of admission is too high for you to justify buying it in it's current state, then it's no different to another delay. Just wait till the game is good enough for you to buy. While it's more than likely they were pressured to release into early access by the studio, it doesn't change the fact that now they get to hear everyone's feedback and build things into the game that'll make the game that much better at full release. I'm personally waiting to buy, and I'll be happy to sit back and enjoy the content everyone's making around the game until I feel like the game is worth the price of admission to test it myself.

Bear in mind, if you started playing KSP in 2016, it had been available in early access for five years by that time. It's probably not an entirely fair comparison to compare KSP2 in 2023 to KSP1 in 2011 - the production team are a lot more slick and well funded for KSP2, and they weren't asking full price for KSP1 - but it's definitely unfair to compare a mature full release game to one in early access, especially since the dev team have been loudly telegraphing it's lack of early access features ever since the release date was announced.
I kind of think wrestling with the jank and the bugs and the kraken attacks are part of what gave early KSP1 it's charm, but given the snotty community response it looks like that may have been a mistake.
