They also got to the final of the European Championships as well that year and were unfortunate to run into the Netherlands who had their golden generation at their peak it took a team with Marco Van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard to beat them.

Rusia en 2018, pudo de local rescatar algo de aquello que cuando era "URSS", perdio con la disolucion sovietica en 1991, pero esa magia me gustaba mucho eran sumamente habilidosos, y ante todo efectivos.
La superliga soviética con los clubes moscovitas y el Dinamo de Kiev juntos... Fue de las mejores de Europa en su momento. URSS inclusive fue campeón mundial sub 20 y sub 17. Coincido con vos, le hizo mal al fútbol la disolución de la URSS

Loved the USA and USSR matches back in the day. Fyunny how USA were rubbish back then but always managed to score at least one goal against USSR.
It's sad to know that after the 1933 USA started to hate the sport they used to love it and the match against Russia and USSR show how passionate they can be.
Luckly USA has embraced the sport a lot more since the 1994 World Cup.

¿Notaron al portero norteamericano? parece de 40 y es porque en ese entonces en lo Olímpicos les era permitido a la CONCACAF, Asia, África y Oceanía enviar equipos profesionales y sin límite de edad. En cambio la Conmebol y UEFA mandaban equipos juveniles, a excepción de los países comunistas que no eran considerados "profesionales", por tanto, enviaban sus principales selecciones, y eso se vio reflejado en los resultados: Entre Londres 1948 y Moscú 1980, 23 de las 27 medallas olímpicas fueron entregadas a países socialistas, siendo Dinamarca, Suecia y Japón las únicas excepciones. Dentro de estos equipos campeones, se encuentra por ejemplo el denominado Equipo de oro de Hungría, considerado uno de los mejores equipos de la historia.
Ese arquero era Tony Meola, de hecho ese equipo fue la base para la selección de USA que jugaría los mundiales de Italia 90 y USA 94.

Todo cambió desde Barcelona 92, cuando la FIFA junto con el COI, decidieron para el fútbol masculino crear la categoría sub23, reforzándose las selecciones, si lo deseaban con 3 jugadores mayores de 23 años.

These days the US is ranked 20th in the world, Russia is 38. It’s not just that Russia has fallen off. It’s not as big anymore. It doesn’t have the best Ukrainian (and Georgian, Kazakh, Belarussian and so on and so on) players under their umbrella anymore. 3 of the top 5 all time scorers for USSR were Ukrainian (Blokhin, Protasov and Kolotov). They used to be like a Eastern European all star team.
This was the day I realised that USA have a football team 😂 but the real surprise was the USSR winning gold in basketball and USA have to satisfy with bronze 😂
