Thanks for this souvenir of my Garden debut!…such memories with my fabulous ,great colleagues !…although the recording is very poor.I can assure you that Ludwig was Glorious!…a class of her own.
and you are the definition of a real star that lit up the operatic stage, my dearest greetings to you.
MANY thanks for this upload.
Thank you for posting this!
Prelude: 0:04
Act 1: 03:24
Act 2: 47:07
Act 3: 1:27:40
Act 4: 2:05:59
I remember seeing all these. Some nights more succesful than others for Vickers.Ludwig was an interesting Carmen ,unusual but interesting.
Yes I was also at this season's run. Vickers was replaced by Lavirgen at some performances. Ludwig was a bit matronly on stage but vocally her I find her vey good
WHAAAAAAAT?!!! I love you!!!!
You might have tried to find a photo from the actual production.
The picture is not even close. It's like having a bio of George Washington and having a picture of Pearl Bailey on the cover
I have this recording. To be honest Diaz and Robinson are the real stars here.
what a silly comment!
@@fredsmith6310 It's true though.
Diaz has the perfect voice for Escamillo. And Robinson did not mind taking on smaller roles to round off impeccable ROH casts as well. On the other hands, Cotrubas' Micaela is incredible and she is definitely a star here in what might be her only live Micaela recorded.
@@BestOperaMoments Is it really Forbes Robinson as Zuniga ? Sounds more like Robert Lloyd to my ears. Those nasal tones...
Love Vickers.
Vikers??? But why ? And Ludwig, but why ?? Anyway it is interesting. Thank you .
Vickers' Don Jose (most notably under Karajan) and Ludwig's Carmen in the 1960's (in studio with Stein and live with Maazel) were excellent, much better than both in decline here. It's interesting to hear this Leonore/Florestan, Didon/Aeneas, Parsifal/Kundry duo do something so different.
Why not ? They were great artists who knew had to interpret anything they sang and had fantastic vision into their characters. Vocally it was handled well.
Vickers was one of those great artists who had to be seen and heard to be fully appreciated.
The conducting is the real problem here!
Lopez-Cobos is one of the most overrated conductors.
