    Missed some oil !!!
    By the way, this is the best PSA engine ever, especially in 110 hp.

    Thanks for posting this....went through some HUGE puddles in my pug 406...replaced the wet air filter and used EGR cleaner, just as you demonstrated (despite the guy in the shop telling me to squirt it in with the engine off) Now my pug (which wouldn't accelerate past 40mph) drives like a charm

    Great video. I learned a few things from it even after 10 years servicing my own peugeot's and Citroen. One thing I would do differently would be to remove the whole fuel filter bowl and clean it out before refitting it. Some debris and water that had been caught by the filter can fall back into the bowl and the remaining fuel and be sucked into the fuel system after the new filter is fitted. I always wondered how to reduce the carbon build up in the air intake without removing the manifold.

    @peugeotCitroen2CV  12 років тому

    The oil went all over the place, i edited it out in the video but there was a big mess of oil on the ground.
    406 as a first car well done, this was my third car after a panda and clio, and definatley much nicer than they were to drive, good luck to you with your 406

    I believe it stops the car from smoking and keeps the egr clean, my car isnt smoking or running badly, its done to keep it clean, just maintenance.
    As for where i sprayed it, on this engine its the best place, the intake is behind the front wheelarch liner and if it was sprayed there the air filter would catch most of the spray. Spraying it in the MAF sensor is the most convenient place to spray it in.

  • @peugeotCitroen2CV
    @peugeotCitroen2CV  12 років тому

    That sounds good, i did notice stuff at the bottom of the filter bowl, ill take it off the next time and clean it with the compressed air, i didn't empty the filter bowl in the video because the car did not have much diesel in the tank.
    Id like to take the manifold off to clean it, but being at the back of the engine access is a bit tight on the 406.

    :) very good, yep the inside of the car can stink when the filters go bad, the first time i changed the filter my car smelt a bit damp and musty, the filter at the time was the original, there was mould growing on it.

    Id have to agree, the 2.0 HDi DW10 is a great engine in either 90 or 110 form, but 110 is much more relaxing to drive.
    A far superior engine than the 1.6 HDi 110.

  • @peugeotCitroen2CV

    This car has the bosch system i think only the early 90bhp hdi's came with a siemens fuel injection system, with each system having its own fuel filter housing.
    When i was priming the pump i had all screws closed, i turned on and off the ignition a few times to fill up the filter housing and that was it, the old 1.9 xud is perhaps what you are thinking of, it requires a bleed screw to be opened and the fuel to be bled by a hand pump

      They are a good engine, this one is still going strong. I change the oil every year or 10,000 miles whatever comes first, 10,000 miles is about 16,000km. The proper fuel filter housing tool is a very useful thing to have, i now use one and find it very useful on this design of filter housing.

    Thanks your right on both accounts, the oil filter usually is empty i run the car a while and check the level again, forgot to put it in the video. As for the diesel in the video i actually forgot to put the rubber seal on so there was a big mess that got edited out, thankfully i found the new seal, put it on, then cleaned all the hoses and sprayed some silicone spray on them.

  • @orbitaaltube

    Thanks for the info, was down in the motor factors this morning and they call this type of filter the siemens filter. The filter housing with the 3 hoses and the electrical connector is known as a siemens housing even through the corresponding fuel pump is made by bosch! bit confusing

    Thanks for your comment, my uncle has a golf thankfully it hasnt gave any trouble apart from the central locking but it cost £150 to fix.
    The 406 if looked after right can cope with big mileages.

    The siemens bosch thing is about the fuel injection system, but i think in all HDi's bosch made the fuel pump, the old XUD's may have had some lucas fuel pumps, then they switched to a more reliable bosch fuel pump.
    Its a bit confusing, but when i first got the 406 the motor factors would give me 2 fuel filters and i would return the one that didn't fit once the car was serviced.

  • @peugeotCitroen2CV
    @peugeotCitroen2CV  12 років тому

    I have never owned a petrol powered peugeot, only ever diesels which are good engines. If the fuel bill is not a worry the insurance and road tax are also much higher on the v6, although the sound it makes is fantastic. As for parts it depends where you live here they are very rare.
    The 2.2 HDi is available in the coupe. and after removing the FAP and getting it remapped they can achieve 180bhp which is very close to the v6 but still with decent fuel economy, and i think more torque

  • @peugeotCitroen2CV
    @peugeotCitroen2CV  11 років тому

    I dont do high mileage less than 10k a year but new filters are cheap, and they are easy to change.

  • @peugeotCitroen2CV
    @peugeotCitroen2CV  11 років тому

    It seems to do the job, the car doesnt smoke after i use it, i still havent actually removed the egr completley and cleaned it, mainly because the clips that hold it into place would need to be replaced if they were removed.

  • @rarf2142
    @rarf2142 12 років тому

    Yes, you are right about the insurance and road tax, it will be alot higher so I am still considering. Although the 2.2 HDI seems a very nice alternative as well.
    Well here in the Netherlands, these V6 are not very rare. We have them for like €1000,- here. A Diesel will probably almost have 1,5 or more times more torque yes. So maybe its better to take the diesel while its not as spectacular!

  • @peugeotCitroen2CV
    @peugeotCitroen2CV  11 років тому

    The 2.0 is reliable ive been in a friends car with over 400k miles, but even if mine only did 190k id still be happy with it.
    Ive been tempted a few times by a 2.2 HDi coupe, i dont think them engines are too bad after the DPF is sorted out/removed

      Your comment after going through google translate:
      "Peugeot 406 engine is not the most successful in all respects"
      Fair enough, most engines are not the most successful in all respects. There are more economical engines, there are more powerful engines, more rev happy engines and so on. The DW10ATED was and still is one of the most reliable modern diesels, along with the VW PD diesel. Before diesels became too complicated, it has the right amount of technology in the form of common rail fuel injection to make it responsive and nice to drive but the parts were sourced from bosch and it all works quite well providing reasonable fuel economy and reliability. I can attest to the reliability of these engines as i have had this car for 10 years and it has been very reliable.

    It probably is better to do it after the oil change, i am not 100% sure on what the EGR does other than knowing its good to clean it once in a while, i doubt the pollution in the oil will be significant, there was no mention of whether to clean the egr before or after a service on the tins instructions.
    Nonetheless thanks for your comment it makes sense and in the future i will clean the EGR first.

    Ah yes i know that, the egr is located between the engine and the bulkhead, in the past i blanked it off it made no difference but the act of getting it off was tricky, not much space in there i got plenty of scrabs on my arm.
    I didnt take the egr out and clean it in this video.
    i just sprayed this stuff through the air intake, it claims to clean the EGR that way, but i dont think the 406 actually suffers many EGR problems unlike vauxhall diesels.

Developed by it as if for pririrody. (Ignore the exhaust gases and soot into the engine again, hurting the motor !!!) But! some say that it makes a turn to him well, and you need it !!! all this hype and marketing !!!

      Ah right, blank off the EGR valve?
      I had the valve blanked off for a while on my car, did not notice any great deal of difference in power or economy (although on other cars the difference is more noticeable) what i did notice was that it took longer for the interior heater to warm up mainly because the exhaust gasses on a 406 go through a water jacket which seems to heat up the coolant quicker, with the egr valve blanked off this took longer so i returned it to normal. The DW10 isnt too adversely affected by its egr valve, its more of a problem on the DV6 engines.

    Great series of videos! Just what I was looking for, you saved my day!
    I have one question regarding maintenance. The Haynes manual states you have to regularly drain the water from the fuel (diesel) filter. You didn't do that in the video. Is it not needed anymore with your type of engine?

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  10 років тому

      Its something that you can do if the diesel might contain water, I've emptied out the fuel filter housing a few times to clean it which deals with the water, although I've never noticed any water in the filter housing when doing this, but i do get my diesel from the same texaco filling station and drive it every day which might help keep the water out of the system.
      If you want to drain the water out of the fuel filter there is a screw at the bottom of the housing.

    Do you mean the series of "0"s in the mileage display before the car starts up, i know my car says low oil level if its parked on a really steep hill, but its always had enough, it doesnt burn any.
    The oil level sensor i think is at the back of the engine on the right, for the DW10ATED (2.0 HDi 110) engine.
    Ive never measured how many litres that go into the car, i just wait for the oil to settle then read off the dipstick.

  • @peugeotCitroen2CV

    One can did the job it was only 200ml, i think it should do most cars ok.
    The 307, what year is it? they had a 2.0 hdi with 110bhp which was the same as the engine in the 406 engine, i think the 137bhp engine in the 307 is the same engine but with a 16v head.
    Regardless of that the egr cleaning process should be the same.

    I have watched many of your videos, you certainly know what you are doing. My 406 is hesitant . I have changed the MAF. Does the 406 hdi also have a MAP sensor?, if so, where is it located exactly?. Is it worth blocking the EGR on these with a blanking plate?. Mine is a 2003 hdi 90. Thanks. Mark

    • @joesaric1
      @joesaric1 8 років тому

      Clean the maf sensor with the maf spray. It will better read the airflow details. It is located after air filter housing, easy to take it off and clean, but dont touch it, can destroy it ! Also it is clever to disable the Egr valve, but only by software, someone who knows ( chiptunning workshop). Not recommended with blank plate, because it will turn on the engine light.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  8 років тому +1

      Hesitant, have you tried driving it with the MAF sensor disconnected?
      I don't think the HDI has a MAP sensor, especially not the 90 models.
      The EGR if its giving issues the car might smoke more and be down on power. Its worth just disconnecting the vacuum pipe going to the EGR and putting a bolt in it to blank it, then a plastic cap over the electrovalve to stop a vacuum leak. It will save trying to fit a blanking plate.
      Any other issues have a look on 406oc.co.uk which is the best place to go if you want a quicker response.

    What about the rest of the little old oil which stays inside? is there any tool to suck that out to make it really clean or would it be better to start filling with the new oil so the rest goes away? I know it doesn't matter but I just want to be sure that old oil doesn't get mixed with the new one. I hope u get what I mean. lol

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV

      There are oil suction tools that can remove the oil from the dipstick but i usually just remove the sump plug as they should be designed to let all the oil flow out anyway (the 1.6 HDi DV6 engine i believe has the sump plug in a bad place and taking the sump off is the only way to guarantee that the old oil has been removed) but on the other engines just take off the sump plug and give it plenty of time to drain out.
      With your petrol engine the old oil shouldn't be too contaminated, and what little remains of the old oil won't be enough to worry about, if your oil hasn't been changed in a while and its a bit sludgy try one of them engine oil flushes.

      Hi, I found out where the filter is. It is just above the motor. I coudn't believe it was there. LOL. I just changed it. I changed the brake rotor as well. I painted with a caliper paint. It is really beautiful. The old one is rusted but still in good condition. I will clean it vinager and then i will paint it. Without your videos I will never make it. Thanks a lot. Do you have whatsup so I can send photos to you.

    How much kw in this peugeut 406?

      Hi there this was the HDi 110, the 110 denoting its Brake Horse Power BHP, that seems to be the unit we use here, and the one my head can grasp haha.
      Although a google tells me that 110bhp is equal to 82 Kw, not sure how the 406 2.0 HDi was marketed in countries that used KW as we had the 2.0 90, 2.0 110, and 2.2 136.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV

      Je ne passe pas beaucoup de temps à lire diverses huiles. Mes facteurs moteurs locaux (magasin de pièces) recherchent l'immatriculation de la voiture et me donnent l'huile qui convient.
      Si je me souviens bien, ces moteurs 2.0 HDi prennent 10W-40. Cependant, comme vous parlez français, je suppose que vous êtes dans un climat plus chaud qu'en Irlande, donc la viscosité exacte recommandée peut être différente, c'est dans le manuel du propriétaire de la voiture les viscosités recommandées pour différentes températures. Cela dit, tout 2.0 HDi ou même sur les moteurs XUD, je mets simplement 10W-40 sans problème.

    What's the best engine out of the Peugeot 106 variety Mk1-2

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  8 років тому +1

      They are all TU engines and i think most are grand, the 8 valve ones are the only examples ive worked on. My mum owned a 1.5 diesel years ago it was very economical but at the same time it was an old school diesel ie slow and noisy, needed the head gasket done once but other than that it gave no trouble.
      The 1.1 is economical enough and in the 106 still great fun to drive. In anything bigger the 1.1 feels underpowered.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  3 роки тому

      Oil grades and types has never been a subject ive paid much attention to, i am aware and fully appreciate that there are usually specific oils for specific engines but do not make any efforts to memorise it.
      Any decent motor factors can look it up from the vehicles registration and the cost is generally competitive with online prices.
      However the old 2.0 hdi is a fairly hardy engine, its a lot less fussy about its oil than the likes of the later 1.6 equipped with a DPF which will require low saps oil. Its 10-40 of some description but thats as far as i can remember.

    Question for everyone in the group!my 406 leaks cooling liquid and i was told it was probably my egr cooler.any tips about what to do?the replacement of the egr is too expensive at the mechanic where I live.
    Thanks!

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  3 роки тому

      Hi there, if your mechanic has determined the egr to be leaking using a coolant pressure tester where it has put pressure on the system to see for leaks then perhaps thats where it is coming from. However it could be from pipes, thermostat area, water pump or the radiator.
      The EGR cooling could be in theory bypassed on a 2.0 just disconnect the two coolant pipes and replace it. However the EGR on the 2.0 i think from memory is stainless steel so unlikely to develop a leak this way.

      @@peugeotCitroen2CV hello!thanks for the answer first!
      The mechanic said that either it was the egr,or the head gasket,and since both repairs costed too much the car was not worth the try.but i dont think he did a thorough check.
      Im happy with the car and for me it would a bit sad to have to get a new one,and for now it leaks very little so i can drive around 150km before i see the red lamp.
      What would you recommend?for sure it doesnt seem like there is any clear leaking anywhere,so it might be one of the things you mentioned.but also not white smokes,not higher fuel use,any power lose in the motor or any other sign apart from the level going down a bit.
      Thanks again for the help!

      @@joshpatat4763
      Buy yourself a coolant pressure test kit, ensure it has the cap for peugeot in it. When it pressurises the system you can go round and see if there is any visible coolant leaks.
      If there is oil in the water, it could be the engine oil cooler. Do not always suspect the head gasket although its not impossible. Water pump gasket, thermostat housing, hoses, radiator all other places where it could be leaking from.

      What engine is it you have, prestige i am guessing is a trim level rather than engine.
      Ive bought full 406 HDi's with good engines for about £150 in the past so the 2.0 HDi is cheap as chips, the 1.9 XUD is still reasonably cheap. The petrol engines are more scarce but i wouldnt pay more than £300 for one.
