The tricky part of this anime is that they weren't sure if it would be successful, so the pacing is ALL OVER the place. Lots of flashbacks that it isn't always clear are flashbacks, and everything that happened in episode 1 took place over WEEKS in the manga. Around episode 4 or 5 it slows down a bit, but the reason they made season 2 ("The Missing Pieces") is to insert a lot of the best moments and context they couldn't squeeze into season 1. It's a great show, but you're not wrong to be confused. The people who read the manga have all the context the show is missing. And yeah, one of the reasons Horimiya is so popular is because of the mature treatment of sex. None of the stupid anime nosebleeds and kyaaaaaaaing from the female characters. I love Spy Family but Yor's immature reaction to any sort of sexuality is a huge turnoff. I wish more anime was as upfront and reasonable about it as Horimiya. In the manga, it's implied that Miyamura wasn't Hori's first, which is why she's more straightforward about "why won't you make a move" in general. She's not afraid of it.
Hori is not really the sweet & innocent girl that you seem to think she is. If you think about her relationship with her father & also how she used to be with Sengoku when they were younger, then that is closer to her actual personality and the "sweet" personality we saw her with at the beginning of the series is the facade she puts on at school. What you're now starting to see is more of her true personality (and if you watch how Sengoku responds to Hori, you'll see he KNOWS what she's really like, and that Ishikawa is starting to realize too). Also, while Sengoku was definitely the GOAT in this episode for voicing his attraction to Remi, I think you missed (maybe it's in the full Patreon version) something about Remi. Remi has always had guys after her. The guys around Sengoku would talk a lot about how cute Remi is and all. But the big problem is that all these guys were stuck on her physical appearance and worst of all, they would also degrade her best friend (Sakura) because of Sakura's looks. Remi is very aware of her impact/influence on other people and also what they are saying about her (& in turn, about Sakura). When Sengoku was talking to Remi, he treated her normally and most of all, he also talked directly to Sakura. When Sengoku offered to Sakura that she could also borrow his books, this not only surprised Sakura (because usually guys ignored her), but the star symbols around Remi was because he was being nice to her best friend. It was this act that really won her heart! If you would watch the "Missing Pieces" season, you would see that Sakura is just as valuable to Sengoku as Remi. NOTE: Also, the spider on Remi's shoulder in this episode has a relevance to a later episode in this season, so remember it.
