- The Sweatbox is a 2002 American documentary film designed to show behind-the-scenes footage of Kingdom of the Sun (the original version of The Emperor's New Groove). It illustrated the slow and painful transformation from Kingdom of the Sun to The Emperor's New Groove, including the director, musician Sting (whose wife created the documentary), artists and voice cast being dismayed by the new direction. The film's major theme is creative-executive conflicts.

I really think it’s interesting to see the turbulent but extended overhaul of The Emperors New Groove.

They were so dedicated and passionate every step of the way, and they took the time and breaks they needed to be the most inspired versions of themselves when they went back to work. Truly paid off, and as much as we would love to see the first version, the revamp definitely gave them so much experience and it’s amazing!
So it was a little bit of bittersweat after all 🤨
I doubt it. The doc could hardly end on a damning note considering Sting's wife made it. If you were to ask any of the people involved today who were screwed over, I doubt they would reply with the positive corporate language they give in this.
@@SethMcFartlane As someone who was there, and watched the chaos this production caused - especially among the animators - I agree. I still remember how absolutely epic the 3rd floor development art was for Kingdom of the Sun. What it became was a disgrace. I'm glad I ended up kicked off to work on another project, and jumped ship soon after. This flick is truly what got Feature Animation's access to the money tree revoked. Faaaaaar too much money was being wasted so all those cooks could spoil the damn broth.
