He didn't make a palace in the countryside...he built a water park for everyone to enjoy. I think that was one of the lessons that Cuzco was learning...to not be so selfish and to do be a better person. I find it ironic that Sting made his name off, literally, "white reggae" where he sucked up the best of another culture and whitewashed it. He continues to do this, only under the name "world music". Music doesn't belong to anyone, it can't be owned. Same with culture. Just comes off a bit hypocritical to accuse Disney of doing the same thing he does, which is take from other cultures and churn out his own version of it. There isn't actually anything wrong with it. The original idea for the movie would've probably been a better movie, but it's still my favorite animated film that Disney has done in the last 40 years. I respect Sting's talent, he is a genius. But he is also very egotistical and has had this "holier than thou" attitude since early 80's.

As someone who has worked on small animated projects before I gotta to say I feel like the Disney executives are in the right on this one. The purpose of these screenings is to make sure the film is the best and most clear it can be. However, where I feel Disney messed up it’s their pushing on a more “edgy” film to complete with dream works I feel like the film should of gone more whimsy instead but that’s just me!

"Our job is to make a film that is really entertaining, interesting storyline, but not too complex." When I first heard that, I was like, "Thanks, Captain Obvious." But then I thought about it and I actually really appreciate the fundamentals that he is adhering to, especially as a producer whose job is usually to remain objective about the process while allowing the directors and other artists to think freely. Still, I wonder if the original idea was a bit too complex...for example - you have something like The Lion King, which this movie seemed to be aiming for a similar feel of, and it's about a prince who falls from grace and has to re-earn his crown. All the B-storylines and characters seem to foster that and it makes for a good story with quite a bit of depth. Here, you had the Prince and the Pauper in Peru idea, which is already a story in and of itself but then they threw in the prince being turned into a lama as well...and it almost feels like it's too much. So I can see why they felt like they needed to pare it down, but where they may have gone wrong is that they lost the original vision of it being an Incan fairy tale and fell into the "Wouldn't it be fun if...we made ancient Peru like Las Vegas," kind of thing. At that point, you've knocked it down a peg or two from stuff that made Disney great in the 90s with these rather immersive and interesting fairy tales to a bit of a gimmick. It would be interesting to get a hold of the original script for Kingdom of the Sun, but that presents another problem as it seems like they didn't really have a full one to begin with, which may have been the first red flag. Some movies have been able to do it sucessfully - ex. Gladiator, Iron Man - but in this case, I think it left vulnerabilities in the original vision that caused panic once things started rolling at full speed, and led to big changes in the end product to simple make it work.

Disney doesn't want you to see this at ALL, because you the viewer are not suppose to understand the magic... They want you ignorant of what it takes to make quality projects so they can be lazy.

I don't know anything about making animated movies, but isn't starting production on songs and jokes and scenes without a hard script putting the cart before the horse? Its no wonder there were so many troubles in the making of this film. I really love the version we got.

This documents a very real struggle in the creative process. When Disney magic is prescriptive, it is no longer fresh. The sarcasm and non-disney attitude the emperor's new groove had was refreshing. It was like the Shrek that Disney needed

Is it me or the lama song is the same concept that the coconut song from moana?

Is interesting hearing people talk about the other Yzma… cuz that character has been done before in Snowwhite. And also because her goal is not in opposition to Cuzcos. Instead the new character is a foil that contains Cuzcos worst faults to the extreme and so the contrast makes far more sense.

When Sting said “Lahma Lahma,” I felt that.
