Her snub for her performance in “Arrival” still stings to this day. It was arguably her best performance and somehow the Oscar’s found a way to ignore her smh.
She could've won that year if only Arrival wasn't "alien" or sci-fy movie (which The Academy hate especially in acting category) and pure heavy drama about mother and daughter storyline.
The fact that she didn’t get nominated for Nocturnal Animals AND / OR Arrival (Same year!) is equally mind blowing as the fact that she hasn’t won yet 🤯
I think nocturnal animals was decent. The performances that really stood out in that movie were those of Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Michael Shannon. I won't call enigmatically reading a book for most of a movie as 'award-worthy performance' but that's just me maybe ☺️
@DJ Moose arrival requires a quiet and somber, but deeply emotive performance. while i think the well-written script, and her character arc definitely enhance the performance, the movie just wouldn't be complete without her charisma
as someone who also struggled until the age of 30 to succeed in a competitive industry, I admire Amy Adam's commitment to never giving up to pursue her dream.
Most definitely, over 40 here, life hasn't been great the past while but I battle on. I have this (one may call me niave), kind of indomitable "it'll all be grand " self assuredness. I have lost my leg and battle chronic nerve pain on a daily basis. I've been at the bottom and the only way is up from now on. Just need to work on my ol self confidence. Have a great day everyone.
It’s amazing how she shines by really blending into the movie, not making the role about herself -which is what the Academy apparently rewards. She appears as Debra Messing’s sister in a silly little movie called The Wedding Date -and she’s effing great. She creates an actual character from whatever script she’s handed.
The Wedding Date is one of my favourite films - I watch it several times a year - and sometimes I forget that she's even in it because she is so different. She is one of the few actors who I feel actually becomes the characters rather than plays another version of herself.
I do agree with you. Still, an Oscar probably commands better pay and even more choice for parts. And honestly, a woman’s shot for parts is probably much more limited than a man’s due to age. Tho the range is widening just a touch, we know that once one looks 40-you get Moms and grandma roles.
Looks like this is your most popular video to date. Hollywood should take note of the love the audience has for Amy Adams and capitalize on it more. It's a low key version of the kind of love that ppl used to have for movie stars in Hollywood's Golden Age. Her public persona manages to be both awe-inspiring and relatable at the same time.
ARRIVAL is Amy Adams' best work. The performance is greatly enhanced by the fact that the movie is a masterpiece that's ageing brilliantly. This should've been both a Best Actress Oscar nomination and a win.
I think there were 2 factors behind Amy Adams Oscar snub for Arrival. 1. Amy Adams had both Arrival and Nocturnal Animals being campaigned for Best Actress and neither of the distribution companies were willing to back down to allow Amy to campaign for just one movie, which ultimately led to a vote split between the two performances. I think the same happened to Sidney Poitier when he was snubbed for Best Actor for both Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and In The Heat of The Night. 2. After the #Oscarsowhite controversy the year prior, there definitely a lot of pressure to nominate more actors of color and probably the main reason behind Ruth Negga’s nomination. I personally thought they never needed to overcompensate that much, especially considering there were an abundance of great black films like Fences, Moonlight, and Hidden Figures. The actors from all of their respective films were practically locks to get nominated and all were very deserving too. I personally would have picked Amy Adams over Ruth Negga or Meryl Streep.
Amy Adams is terrific but there always seems to be someone else due or more deserving that year. Except, 'Arrival' how the heck she didn't get in for her performance in Arrival is mind-boggling 😦
She certainly has the right attitude. The TV/movie business is extremely tough and fickle... the fact that she's been steadily working and succeeding should be more than enough. The awards/nominations... I suppose for anyone in the biz, formal recognition means a lot but then there are plenty of those who's won the top honors and we've never heard from them again...
Amy elevates every movie that she’s in. There are so many of her films that are among my favorites even movies that are not critically acclaimed or overlooked like Leap Year, Julie and Julia, are so charming I can watch over and over again. I just believe that she’s among the select few who are the best actresses of her generation. I really expected her to win for Arrival. That year, having been so great in 2 movies, she was definitely snubbed for not even being nominated. Sharp Objects should have won her multiple awards. Sharing an award was fine but I think that project was deserving of much more for her contribution alone. Her performance was masterful, and remains a haunting character thanks to her.
The problem Amy always seems to have, is she is nominated for the wrong roles or snubbed (Nocturnal Animals, Arrival) and where she is nominated she is never going to win because of timing. Take Doubt, nominated against her co-star Viola Davis, the vote there would likely be split cancelling each other out. The fighter the narrative and publicity behind Melissa Leo too difficult to overcome. Blue Jasmine, how do you beat Cate Blanchett and her it's ''her time narrative''. There are always a lot of mitigating factors as to why she can easily grab a nomination, but falls just shy of the finish line, very much the Glenn close of her generation. Someone always has a louder and bigger machine behind them, in a career defining role (Regina King). Equally her recent choices have been rather lacking in the prestige or overall strength of her earlier work, somewhat damping her chances and dimming her overdue narrative. She needs a good script, strong performance and a quiet year and she will get there, see Jessica Lange in Blue Skye or Renee in Judy.
One of my theories on why Amy Adams was snubbed for Best Actress was because unfortunately the producers for both her movies were campaigning her against herself for Best Actress. She can’t pull a Kate Winslet and campaign her roles for both Lead and Supporting and hope for the best. If the producers for Nocturnal Animals stepped aside and helped campaign their actress for another movie, then I think she could have gotten nominated. But of course, movie producers won’t waste their resources campaigning another movie. It’s kind of like why Sidney Poitier wasn’t nominated in either Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and In The Heat of The Night. He probably vote splitter himself during the nomination process (it also didn’t help that he was competing against his co-stars Rod Steiger and Spencer Tracy!) which is a travesty! Mr. Tibbs is probably one of the most iconic heroes in movie history!
Amy Adams in Leap Year....one of my FAVORITE MOVIES EVER....this movie is glossed over but it's one of the BEST small movies ever made.....shes GORGEOUS and so relatable..I Love her ..I wish she and Mr.Goode would make another together...Perfection
Amy is one of my all-time favorite actresses today. Like so many others, I first became aware of her through her amazing performance in Enchanted. I loved her in Doubt, and I loved her in Arrival. Like you, I am absolutely sure there is an Oscar in her future. All she has to do is keep working and doing extraordinary performances.
I find sometimes if an actress is in a movie that is too genre-y, they dont get nominated no matter how good they are. Like Toni Collette in Hereditary (Horror) or Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road (Action). So that is my theory why Adams missed out on a nomination for Arrival (Science fiction).
Which is also why I believe Michelle Yeoh might be snubbed for Everything Everywhere All At Once next year (I'm not even sure if that movie is a specific genre lol). I'd love her to be nominated but I won't be surprised if the Academy skips her.
@Vitoria S- I really hope Michelle Yeoh gets nominated for EEAAO because she was absolutely fantastic in that movie. Hopefully Michelle Yeoh can be the exception like Daniel Kaluuya’s performance in Get Out. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏽
I grew up with Amy Adams being brilliant in Enchanted and Julie and Julia. Since then, every time I see her in any movie scene, a warmth in my heart suddenly appears. My favorite films with her presence on screen are Arrival and Vice.
It's all about timing. It took years for Leonardo DiCaprio, Joaquin Phoenix, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Jessica Chaistain to win their first Oscar. Well, for Leo's case, he won in the wrong movie. Amy needs to be starred in a good movie with good critic and audience score to deserve her first Oscar.
Leo happened to win in a year when his opponents were much weaker (Does anyone even remember the Bryan Cranston and Mark Ruffolo movies?🤔) However, EVERY single time he’d lost prior he was up against acting heavyweights, who had put in hugely lauded performances (Tommy Lee Jones, Forest Whittaker, Matthew McConaughey & Jamie Foxx) Plus, another thing is Leo literally campaigned for his award like he was running for office (LOL) - Which of course highlights the ridiculous politics and I guess desperation it takes for some to garner a Oscar win
You can include James Woods, Nick Nolte, Ed Harris, Scott Glenn, Beau Bridges, Jeff Goldblum, Frank Langella, Sigourney Weaver, Glenn Close, Amy Irving, Tom Wilkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Mary Beth Hurt, David Strathairn and many more, long overdue.
I think her performance in Arrival that year was better than Stone’s in La La Land that year, Adams’ is subtle but haunting, genuine and it felt so so real. As an aside, i kind of am a bit ok with her not winning for American Hustle bc of her poor experience with O’ Russel. Id like for her win too be associated with happy memories on the movie.
The thing with Amy for me is that 1) She just can't get the public behind her: no matter how great she is, the narrartive (which doens't really mean merit) is always on somebody else. She was snubbed for The Arrival and that became a talking point, but previous to the snub that wasn't a movie people were raving about outside of cinephiles and/or genre fans clubs. Natalie Portman managed to make her Jackie movie be all over tinseltown even if very few people had seen it (Arrival grossed almost 3 times more). 2) Character study would have given her lots of Oscars in the 70s, but that's just not what the Academy cares about these days: what wins is that one scene that's easily marketable and that's worth watching the entire movie for. The Arrival or Nocturnal Animals don't have such scene, nor do many of her other performances. She favors stories and characters that have longer arcs with nuance and elaborated storytelling, and her scenes are impressive when seen in sequence, never as standalone. And to be honest, that's why I find her so unique these days. Her strategy is to play the most interesting characters instead of just playing "that one scene" and that's why she's so consistent and is able to go through her filmography with such dignity. The moment she starts begging for it and goes for fighting a bear in the snow, that's when she'll stop being interesting for her fans. PS. Didn't know Jean Marc Vallée had passed. RIP.
Adams had been getting nominated all the time up until Arrival so I believe that she suffered from voter complacency, meaning voters assumed her spot was safe and voted for others instead.
I think Jessica chastain sounds a bit like that. I didn't see Eyes of Tammy Faye so I could be wrong tho; then again, I don't want to see it precisely bc Jessica's projects aren't as interesting in storytelling comparing to Amy's. There isn't an Amy Adams project I've seen that I didn't like the whole thing. She does pick the best stories
One of Amy Adams best performances was in “Enchanted.” It was Oscar caliber. This was an extremely difficult role to accomplish and she managed the charm and innocence to perfection of the fairy tale character. She wasn’t nominated for this role. She’s very talented. I can’t think of another actress who could have pulled this off, playing a fairy tale character accidentally plunged into the real world. Nice.
Not just "Arrival". How could they ignore her brilliant acting in "Big Eyes" ? I'm shocked. Arrival & Big Eyes are my personal favorite Amy works. Anyway, she will win the Oscar in the future. I'm sure in it.
Another fantastic video! I totally agree with you on the Amy Adams subs. Truly one of finest actresses we have. I love your breakdown of the "why's" she hasn't gotten that Oscar. I feel like the handlers of Emma Stone's career was simply more "sparkly" Adams seems to truly love her craft, more so than awards. She is brilliant in most everything. Fingers crossed that the system gives her the trophy soon.
Excellent video! It never fails to baffle me that she hasn't won a single Oscar! Like, why there isn't much chatter about her the way there was about Leo's lack of Oscar?
Amy wasn’t even nominated for the best performance of her career. Arrival should’ve not only netted her a nomination, but the win as well. I fear she may be the modern day Glenn Close at this rate.
Unpopular Opinion:- I like Amy Adams a lot and she has been consistently good in all her roles (I have seen most of her filmography and she's never given any bad performance irregardless of the movie's quality), but the thing is I really cannot recall a performance from her that is excellent enough to be deemed as an Oscar-winning performance (not to say all those actual winners are actually deserving). Strangely though, I admired her performance in Hillbilly Elegy a lot (easily one of my favourite performances of hers along with those acclaimed ones). She is easily the best thing about that movie. That year was an amazing year for actresses and I think she should have been nominated. Besides, Close had one or two good scenes in that movie but tons of bad scenes in between hence I think she totally deserved her Razzie nomination. I'd honestly much rather see Adams and Close staying Oscarless than winning based on the overdue factor for performances that are not deserving.
I'm not sure how unpopular that opinion is. And not to rub salt in the wound but I thought she gave 2 bad performances. One in Cruel Intentions 2 and in Julia & Julia, so bad in fact, I think she tainted Meryl's chance of winning the Oscar. But not to be a Debbie Downer, I thought she was deserving of a nomination for Arrival.
@@richierich7229 It's ALL opinions here. But even Amy Adams has admitted she's turned in less than stellar work in her career. She wouldn't name the roles but at least she's aware enough to know what's connected and what hasn't. And fyi, that was the 2012 Hollywood Reporter round table where she admitted that. So if she can say it, so can I. And since it was just 3 short years after Julie & Julia where her performance, if not entire storyline, was critiqued as the weak link of the film, I think it's a safe assumption we share similar opinions about her work in the film.
Amy Adams is one of the most talented and versatile actresses working today and she’s definitely overdue for an Oscar win. The day she finally wins an Oscar, I’ll be so happy. My favorite performance from her is still Arrival and I was upset when she got snubbed for Best Actress that year when it seemed like she was an absolute lock for a nomination. She was my second favorite leading actress performance in 2016 behind Emma Stone in La La Land.
@@rics1883 To me Emma Stone did a nice job with a weak script. There are times when people criticize Hollywood fawning over art about the entertainment industry, and I don't agree because the material is so good (i.e. Birdman), and then times when I'm like...yeah, this is not as good as they're acting like it is (i.e. La La Land).
@@rics1883 agree, she's so lucky with strong year competition like Portman (Jackie) & Huppert (Elle). I love Emma but her performance in La La Land was so bland, pretty much character in ordinary film or series but maybe because she gave the Academy nostalgic moment with classic Hollywood musical energy, plus good timing with La La Land strong campaign, she's so much better and should've won in Birdman or The Favourite.
Another amazing video and finally an individual worthy of an 'elusive Oscar' video! Adams should have been nominated for Arrival and Enchanted period! Her snub for Big Eyes was based upon waltz's lackluster performance. She was quite good in Dear Evan Hansen but much of the acceptance or lack thereof counted against her performance. I'm looking forward to Glenn Close. A few other actors have received an Oscar and Razzie nomination for the same performance notably James Coco and Amy Irving in the 80s.
She's one of my favorites because she makes characters seem real, not overacted (with some intentionally comedic exceptions). It's like she just seamlessly blends into the movies and roles. Maybe that's why some people don't notice her as much though, unfortunately.
Wonderful video 😭 👏 Amy Adams is one of if not my all time favorite actress and her career is nothing short of amazing. She should have an Oscar for Junebug, as well as nominations for Arrival (I’ll never be over this snub) and Enchanted, plus an Emmy for Sharp Objects.
I'm conflicted when it comes to Amy Adams. She is undeniably talented yet with the exception of Arrival and The Fighter, I rarely connect to her performances. And honestly, I'm not sure she'll ever win a competitive Oscar. She very well may be this generation's Glen Close except I actually think Close has turned in many Oscar winning worthy performances. Btw, I'm looking forward to that video. I hope Amy finds a role that will get her the gold because she clearly wants it and there are clearly a lot of industry types and commenters on this very video who thinks she's deserving. And I certainly wouldn't begrudge her a win.
The Arrival snub was DIS-RE-SPECT-FUL!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for the other Oscar-less ventures, I have no words or explanations, which will not change once I view your video on Glenn Close that I'll be excitedly waiting for.
She is an amazing and consistent actress who is a successful working actress. I just dont think the Oscars love her enough to give her an Osacr over a more deserving performance. His two main points are she should have won for her firsr nomination and she was seriously ridiculously snubbed for Arrival. The majority of her performances she unfortunately in a category with other powerhouses performances. She never lost to an actress who was less deserving(rachel weisz could be debated). The Oscar race unfortunately is a formula and talented people are left in the dust constantly based on how The Academy "feels about you". And please eff off with the political angles on this subject. Amy may get her day. But I will tell you outside of her fanbase I dont think sadly the Oscars love her enough to give her the prize. And thats is what is truly messed up.
In a category with Thelma Ritter, Deborah Kerr and Glenn Close, Amy is in a very select and prestigious group. Thank you for this loving video, Brian. It's a great warm up to your video about the queen of the should-have-won, Glenn Close.
Amy Adams is one of the best in the business. I think she’ll win eventually. I personally would have liked to see her win in the Fighter, but Melissa Leo was great too.
It was in "Junebug" when I first noticed Adams. It was then when I predicted she was going to be a star. I've said that only two other times: with respect to Molly Parker and Amanda Seyfried. While those two actors have had excellent careers, they have yet to quite reach the heights of Amy Adams. Ultimately, whether she wins an Oscar or not, she's already recognized as one of the great actors of her generation, and will be in the good company of such peers as Emily Blunt, Michelle Williams, and Naomi Watts, who've also never won an Academy Award. Ultimately, an Oscar is just a footnote in a long career filled with brilliant performances. And it's those memorable roles - and not her awards - that will be remembered, as they have been for the likes of Barbara Stanwyck, Myrna Loy, Marilyn Monroe, and countless others who've never won.
This is excellent - as usual for you! 👏🏽 I love Amy Adams too. She’ll remain one of my favorite actresses with or without an Oscar, but I’d love to see her receive that honor for a strong performance.
@@TheAwardsContenderYou’re more than welcome. And by the way, I just edited my comment. It had mad typos because I’d typed it on my phone in a rush.🤦🏽♂️😄
Few things enfurate me more than her snub for Arrival. She should have been nominated for both Arrival and Nocturnal Animals (I know, it's against the rules, but I don´t care). And that Oscar should have been for her ¬¬ Now I think the day she wins, it will be more for her being overdue than for a really deserving performance.
It was not a snub. If she had been nominated we would be here saying the same for the actress that wasn't nominated for her. All the nominated actresses gave an equally great performance.
@@russeluc I think the rules don´t allow a person to be nominated more than once, at leat for the acting categories. I would have to check but I'm almost sure that's how it works.
I would love a video on the 2016 Best Actress race. That year gave my favorite film Performance, Rebecca Hall in Christine. To bad that movie was way too overlooked. I would have love to have seen Amy and Rebecca on the 5 finalist list. Maybe take out Meryl Streep in FFJ
My personal opinions on who should have been nominated were (in no particular order) 1. Isabelle Hupert- Elle 2. Viola Davis- Fences 3. Amy Adams- Arrival 4. Emma Stone- La La Land 5. Natalie Portion- Jackie
I would love to hear your opinion on how Anna Paquin was able to pull of an unexpected win for Best Supporting Actress over the heavily favored Winona Ryder for The Age of Innocence. I have my own opinions about it but I would love to hear your take on that win! Hopefully a future video about the 1993 Oscars?
Another up and coming actress who should be nominated is Joey king. Though her her movies flop sometimes her performances are never lack luster. She’s headed places.
Junebug, I think was the film she should have won her Oscar, bringing much humor and heartbreak with a certain glow to the character of Ashley. Rachel Weisz winning that year for The Constant Gardener was OK but, I just thought that Adams was better. By the way Rachel Weisz's last name is pronounced (VICE).
Thank you for this video, brilliant work as usual. I mean, let's not even forget how much Melissa Leo campaigned for her win that probably had a hand in voters swaying for Leo over Adams. That should have been the year for Adams to triumph although I always find myself switching between Adams and the magnetic Jacki Weaver in Animal Kingdom. I also personally found Adams to be more powerful in The Fighter than Leo who I felt was just chewing the scenery (just my opinion, don't come at me in the replies peeps) and was the sore spot from the performances by the cast. I seriously and genuinely do hope that Adams wins one eventually because she absolutely deserves it!
I don't think she should have won an Oscar yet. She's definitely one of my favorite actresses and a terrific actress anyways, but still I believe that every year there was at least one better performance than hers. I think she was the closest with American Hustle, but still Cate Blanchett was even better for me. Not winning an Oscar doesn't mean you're a bad actor, but being a great actor doesn't mean you have to win an Oscar. But well made video anyways.
Hollywood did dirty with Amy Adams..They nominated her in her movies in which she hadn't any chance to win..and they snubbed her for the Arrival which was so brilliant and seems that Academy don't want give her Oscar deliberately. Gwyneth Paltrow,Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lawrence have Oscar and this talented woman doesn't ? Unbelievable!!!!
Unbelievable is right, and your three examples of past "winners" is excellent in my opinion! Halle Berry is another I would certainly add to that list!
I got to work with Adams briefly on one of her sets. She is so amazing to watch plunge into a character & just as sweet between takes as you’d imagine. It was a true honor to be present to watch her work.
#oscarforamyadams #disenchanted. She was fan-flipping-tastic in Disenchanted! Her performances as both Good and Wicked Giselle are just magnetic to watch and every line she slays like a boss! I never once found a false note from her. I think we should give back for what she's given us!
First, this is a phenomenal video. I’m officially a fan and a subscriber. Second, to me, for Amy Adam and her nominations and losses, Sharp Objects baffles and saddens me the most. I loved Fosse/Verdon - and I see why the TV Academy loved it. It’s about a legend of stage/Broadway, dance, song, tv specials and motion pictures, but also a legends equally legendary wife that gets lost in his maniac, narcissistic artistry. Michelle as Gwen Verdon might as well as sung Nine’s “My Husband Makes Movies” in the series. But, there was no performance like Amy’s in Sharp Objects that year. Some TV performances transcend their platform, and I feel the Academy Awards should award them every so often. I feel this way about Amy in Sharp Objects. (Others being Nicole Kidman in BLL, Claire Danes in Temple Grandin, Julianne Moore in Game Change, among other rare performances given on TV.) I’ll admit, I’m biased about Sharp Objects. I started reading it a week or two before the show premiered, and finished it before the last 2-3 episodes. Same with some of my other favorite books/films/shows/adaptations/performances, including Big Little Lies & Revolutionary Road. I knew Amy was playing Camille, and the other actors playing many of the characters, but Amy became Camille. It’s a masterclass performance. It’s a character that could easily been phoned in, making Camille obviously sloppy and messy and mentally struggling/disturbed, but Amy plays her with beautiful caution, careful confidence - conveying Camille’s confidence in her sarcasm- and Riveting nuance that always reads realistic and never forced. I can’t say enough about Sharp Objects as a show and book, and especially Amy as Camille. I believe she should have gotten the recognition & praise and swept the awards the way Nicole Kidman did in Jean-Marc Caller’s precious project and equally amazing & beautiful adaption of a fantastic novel, Big Little Lies. Plus, after all the Academy Award nominations and never going home with the trophy, wouldn’t you think the TV Academy would want to give her an Emmy? Especially for a deserving performance with an amazing cast, great reviews, and in the lead actress category? To me, her lack of awards for Sharp objects was, and is still, a travesty. Now that I’ve waxed lyrical about Amy in Sharp Objects, I think part of her losses are timing and the other female performances given in the same year of many of her nominations/best performances on film. I’ll admit, I still need to see Junebug. She was great in Doubt, but the vote was split, plus, it was either Winslet or Cruz’s year. I personally wanted Winslet to win for the Reader in Supporting (even though she was quite obviously the lead actress in the film - also another beautiful adaption of a great book) and Winslet win the Oscar for Lead Actress for Revolutionary Road (one of my fav films and books of all time - another amazing adaption of a fucking amazing book. American Beauty’s Sam Mendes adapting a 50’s family/marriage drama with Winslet & DiCaprio? Doesn’t get better.) I personally thought Adams performance in the fighter was better than Leo’s, but it was the last flashy role. The Master was phenomenal, but Amy’s Role was not big enough to compete with the other nominees that year. It was fucking terrifying and amazing though. I personally wanted her to win for lead in American Hustle, but Blanchett’s Blue Jasmine was a tour-de-force that could not be reckoned with & can not fight Blanchett’s win. (Similar to Amy’s loss for The Master previously.) I personally wanted and felt Amy should have won for Vice. Everytime she came on the screen, she commanded the audiences’ attention, as well as the characters in the film around her, and had some amazing scenes and dialogue, giving a fantastic power/success hungry wife that becomes the perfect political wife to the man she encouraged to become powerful and ruthless at any cost. But, like most of the years Amy lost, someone else (that year, Regina King) was locked in to win in Amy’s category. I don’t think she will, but I still hope & pray that Amy does not end up our modern Deborah Kerr (another redhead) or, her recent co-star as mentioned), Glenn Close. I’ve read rumors that she’s been the frontrunner to play Janis Joplin in a biopic. Between her musicals and sex appeal & fluidity in American Hustle, and the raw, dirty, Gritty nuance of Sharp Objects, I think she’d be amazing as Joplin, and could be her award winning turn (much like Renee in Judy & Jessica Chastian [spelling?] in Eyes of Tammy Faye.) All the love & light.
Thank you! I have always loved videos & commentary & opinions about film and entertainment award history, and you nail it in so many of your videos. You mix your presences with each year’s competition in each catergory wonderfully. It’s a joy to watch & comment on. Your reply means a lot. I look forward to all you do & videos in the future!
Completely agree about Sharp Objects, I just rewatched it and I'm starting to think major awards just hate nuance or subtlety cause theres really no other reason not to give her that Emmy (same for Arrival imo)
Excellent job, especially for a smaller channel! I thoroughly enjoyed the whole video, and I’m going to watch the Jake Gyllenhaal one next. Keep up the great work!
Also, how about a video about Sigourney Weaver? She is one of the few actresses to get a Best Leading and Supporting Actress nomination in the same year.
Her snub for her performance in “Arrival” still stings to this day. It was arguably her best performance and somehow the Oscar’s found a way to ignore her smh.
Could NOT AGREE MORE! WTF? That performance - and film - were just superb!
I know, it still hurts!!
and Big Eyes
She could've won that year if only Arrival wasn't "alien" or sci-fy movie (which The Academy hate especially in acting category) and pure heavy drama about mother and daughter storyline.
Literally! That year she was my slam dunk winner and she wasn’t even a NOMINEE? Mess
The fact that she didn’t get nominated for Nocturnal Animals AND / OR Arrival (Same year!) is equally mind blowing as the fact that she hasn’t won yet 🤯
So true! Thanks for watching!
I think nocturnal animals was decent. The performances that really stood out in that movie were those of Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Michael Shannon. I won't call enigmatically reading a book for most of a movie as 'award-worthy performance' but that's just me maybe ☺️

She does not need an Oscar to validate how great an actress she is.
Agreed!
I do agree with you. Still, an Oscar probably commands better pay and even more choice for parts.
And honestly, a woman’s shot for parts is probably much more limited than a man’s due to age. Tho the range is widening just a touch, we know that once one looks 40-you get Moms and grandma roles.
After Jessica Chastain, I’m looking forward to Amy Adams’ win one day. Her performance in Arrival was the greatest Oscar snub ever
Her win is coming, hopefully on her next nomination!
That snub from the Academy was such a huge crime they should be sentenced to exile.
Yup, almost a year later, this is the most popular video! Very happy it’s this one!
ARRIVAL is Amy Adams' best work. The performance is greatly enhanced by the fact that the movie is a masterpiece that's ageing brilliantly. This should've been both a Best Actress Oscar nomination and a win.
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
One can make the argument that the year Mellssa Leo won for The Fighter, she "bought" the Oscar.
I know, it’s crazy. Thanks for watching!
I think that about Doubt, and also Her although I understand it appears as weaker. The precision in those performances is 😮
I still think about that movie every now and then.
Does anyone even remember what Emma Stone did in La La Land? Cause I dont..I'd also argue she was better in Junebug than Rachel Weisz that year
her work on sharp objects is absolutely something else
She was incredible!
Agreed!!!
I'm hoping that she will get the Oscar's soon. One of the finest and versatile actresses in the film industry .
Agreed!
So true. Thanks for watching!
So agree! It is CRAZY to me that she hasn’t won an Oscar!
sharp objects is such an underrated show and adams was the perfect casting
She was so good in Sharp Objects. That was such a good limited series
Agree about Sharp Objects - its easily my favorite performance of hers. She fully embodied the role of Camille. Perfection.
Fully agree about Sharp Objects, I like Michelle Williams but that Adam's Emmy
Absolutely agree! Her time is coming. Thanks for watching!
Very well said! She had the worse timing and bad years.
She’ll get the Oscar. She needs the one film that’s seriously unforgettable that it’ll get the attention and win
I believe so too. Thanks for watching!
Yes, agreed!
Yes, excellent point. Thanks for watching!
@@vickhs which is why I have hopes! EEAAO is genre-defying, you can't define it
@@asava17 I know!!! I'm very happy to have been proved wrong!
I grew up with Amy Adams being brilliant in Enchanted and Julie and Julia. Since then, every time I see her in any movie scene, a warmth in my heart suddenly appears. My favorite films with her presence on screen are Arrival and Vice.
She is a phenomenal actress!
Exactly. Thanks for watching!
FUCK. The Revenant is great
Leo happened to win in a year when his opponents were much weaker (Does anyone even remember the Bryan Cranston and Mark Ruffolo movies?🤔)
However, EVERY single time he’d lost prior he was up against acting heavyweights, who had put in hugely lauded performances (Tommy Lee Jones, Forest Whittaker, Matthew McConaughey & Jamie Foxx)
Plus, another thing is Leo literally campaigned for his award like he was running for office (LOL) - Which of course highlights the ridiculous politics and I guess desperation it takes for some to garner a Oscar win
You can include James Woods, Nick Nolte, Ed Harris, Scott Glenn, Beau Bridges, Jeff Goldblum, Frank Langella, Sigourney Weaver, Glenn Close, Amy Irving, Tom Wilkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Mary Beth Hurt, David Strathairn and many more, long overdue.
It's insane Glenn Close hasn't won.@@iwaisman
Amy is such an endearing presence onscreen. I hope she wins an Oscar soon.
Same here!
Thanks so much for watching!
SHE SHOULD HAVE WON THE EMMY FOR SHARP OBJECTS. PERIOD!
Would have been a great win!
She is gorgeous eloquent funny can cry on demand. She needs a role of a lifetime.
She deserves to have her own Still Alice moment, where it’s just her year

Yes, what a career it is and continues to be. Thanks for watching!

She should have an Oscar for Arrival and an Emmy for Sharp Objects and the fact that she has neither is enraging
She should absolutely have won an Oscar by now!
Happy Birthday, Amy!!! Her and Viola Davis are acting legends! Great video, Brian!
Yes, happy bday, Amy! Thanks for watching!
RIP.
Great points throughout, thank you for your comment!! Love your point about the ‘70s, it’s so true. Thanks for watching!
Facts.
Honestly I ask myself the same question every time I see her. It's been given to people with not half of her talent and career
She just needs the right timing…
One of Amy Adams best performances was in “Enchanted.”
It was Oscar caliber.
I think so too. Thanks for watching!
Agree. I really loved her in Big Eyes.
It's criminal that she hasn't won one yet. I'm hoping one day, she will finally have her moment.
Same here. Thanks for watching!
Another fantastic video! I totally agree with you on the Amy Adams subs. Truly one of finest actresses we have. I love your breakdown of the "why's" she hasn't gotten that Oscar. I feel like the handlers of Emma Stone's career was simply more "sparkly"
Adams seems to truly love her craft, more so than awards. She is brilliant in most everything. Fingers crossed that the system gives her the trophy soon.
Same here. Thanks for watching!
Her not getting nominated for Arrival is such a travesty

I think there were 2 factors behind Amy Adams Oscar snub for Arrival.

Amy Adams had both Arrival and Nocturnal Animals being campaigned for Best Actress and neither of the distribution companies were willing to back down to allow Amy to campaign for just one movie, which ultimately led to a vote split between the two performances. Yes!! Would’ve been a great Oscar nom!
The master is PTA’s most underrated movie. Everything you said was spot on, absolutely incredible
Excellent video! It never fails to baffle me that she hasn't won a single Oscar! Like, why there isn't much chatter about her the way there was about Leo's lack of Oscar?
Thank you so much! Hoping she gets her Oscar someday soon!
Amy wasn’t even nominated for the best performance of her career. Arrival should’ve not only netted her a nomination, but the win as well. I fear she may be the modern day Glenn Close at this rate.

Meryl Streep nomination wasn’t needed that year.
Many say that both Amy and Glenn are closeted conservatives.
@@Voyager759 And?
@@Voyager759politics shouldn’t matter in hollywood
Any's small Indy type film are just absolutely gorgeous to watch. She is one of the best actors of the 21st century.
Unpopular Opinion:-
I like Amy Adams a lot and she has been consistently good in all her roles (I have seen most of her filmography and she's never given any bad performance irregardless of the movie's quality), but the thing is I really cannot recall a performance from her that is excellent enough to be deemed as an Oscar-winning performance (not to say all those actual winners are actually deserving).
Yes, I agree her performance in Hillbilly Elegy is solid! Thanks for watching!
@@MrHootiedean How was Julie & Julia a bad performance? You may not have liked her character but calling that a bad performance is a bit of a stretch.
Emma stone was okay in la la land. Idk how she even won Oscar for such average performance
@@rics1883 I agree. I thought everyone in that category that year was as or more deserving than Emma Stone.
Agreed, I wanted her to win for Arrival, too. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much!!
She fed the children by doing what was needed in Enchanted.
Yes!
She's one of my favorites because she makes characters seem real, not overacted (with some intentionally comedic exceptions). It's like she just seamlessly blends into the movies and roles. Maybe that's why some people don't notice her as much though, unfortunately.
Such a good point. Thanks for watching!
@@TheAwardsContender Thanks for making this video! :)
She enhances every other performer's acting.

Amy Adams is one of those actresses we all know is going to win a best actress Oscar one day it's all about the right movie at the right time.
Exactly!!
She’s young enough that I think she’ll find the right project soon to win her the gold. Thanks for watching!

The Arrival snub was DIS-RE-SPECT-FUL!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for the other Oscar-less ventures, I have no words or explanations, which will not change once I view your video on Glenn Close that I'll be excitedly waiting for.
Yay, thanks!
She does not need Oscar. Oscar needs Amy Adams.
So true. Thanks for watching!

Yes, still hope she wins soon!
Thanks for watching!

It was not a snub. If she had been nominated we would be here saying the same for the actress that wasn't nominated for her. All the nominated actresses gave an equally great performance.

Junebug, I think was the film she should have won her Oscar, bringing much humor and heartbreak with a certain glow to the character of Ashley.

(Others being Nicole Kidman in BLL, Claire Danes in Temple Grandin, Julianne Moore in Game Change, among other rare performances given on TV.)
I’ll admit, I’m biased about Sharp Objects.
Doesn’t get better.)
I personally thought Adams performance in the fighter was better than Leo’s, but it was the last flashy role.
Between her musicals and sex appeal & fluidity in American Hustle, and the raw, dirty, Gritty nuance of Sharp Objects, I think she’d be amazing as Joplin, and could be her award winning turn (much like Renee in Judy & Jessica Chastian [spelling?] in Eyes of Tammy Faye.)
All the love & light.
Wow, thank you for your thorough comment and for subscribing, it means a lot!! I’m so happy you enjoyed my video, you’re amazing.
Thank you so much!! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Also, how about a video about Sigourney Weaver? She is one of the few actresses to get a Best Leading and Supporting Actress nomination in the same year.
Yes, I will get to Sigourney. Stay tuned!
@@TheAwardsContender I'll definitely stayed tuned. Your channel is one of my favourites.😀
She is one of the most beautiful women ever
Oddly enough arrival is the only movie I thought she should have won an Oscar for. Her other performances have been great, but just nomination worthy.
Love her in Arrival!
What a fantastic video. Definitely your best so far. Love Amy Adams ❤ Looking forward to Glenn episode 😀
Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed it ❤️
She should have been nominated as best actress for Big Eyes , Arrival, and Nocturnal Animals.
Thank you for this amazing channel.... I'm always looking forward to a new video. 🙂
That really means a lot to me, thank you!
while it’s disappointing that she has yet to win, I’m just glad she didn’t give up on acting cause her talent is tremendous
Thank you!!! I’ve been waiting for this. Now, waiting time starts for your Glenn Close feature. 💚
You’re so welcome! Thanks for enjoying my channel!
