Wow, from your video, Nanjing is beautiful, cosy and tranquil. A very nice place to live. I am from Singapore, I have not been in Nanjing. After watching your video, I am keen to travel there one day to explore beautiful places there.
Wow. I used to work nearby (the provincial CDC on Jiangsu Road) nearby the complicated intersection in your video. I love to take walk there since several colleagues lived in the privileged area. There are so much changes after more than 30 years.
Thanks for the comment Natt. I just subscribed to your channel. You have some great content! I noticed that you added Chinese subtitles to your videos. Did you do that by uploading a subtitle file with your video upload or did you manually add the Chinese line by line?
@@xiaoandmatt Thank you! I manually added the Chinese line by line and it was so tedious with very little impact on my audience that I stopped doing it. I’d love to add subtitles again at some point but for now I just don’t have the time. You can hire someone to do it for you but I’m not yet monetized so don’t want to pay out on that 😂
@@ExpatNatt We use a video editing software called jianyin 剪映 which can automatically add subtitles in English or Chinese. It will just listen and add them and it works really well. We just need to watch it and correct any little errors or mistakes, but the problem is if I am speaking in English it will only add English it won't translate. That is why I was asking you. We paid to have subtitles in English and Chinese added to our 西双版纳 video but it was too expensive to do that every time. Do you have a bilibli channel? I actually didn't plan to put these videos on UA-cam, but our bilibili got like 4,000 subscribers in 2 weeks, so we decided to also start posting some of the videos here on UA-cam. Our bilibili is monetized and my other UA-cam channel is monetized. When they start bringing in the big bucks we can pay to have someone add subtitles in whatever language we aren't speaking in the videos.
Beautiful area. I am surprised that these single dwelling homes exist in hugely populated Chinese cities. This must be a very wealthy neighborhood in Nanjing.
that area is one of privileged areas of the city, only those high ranked government officials( both in position or retired,. most of them are provincial government level officers ) or army officers can live in these single houses, 70 years ago before communists won the civil war, it was the same , the high KMT government officers and army generals lived in these European styled single houses with their own yard, there are also lots of foreigners living in these houses, , actually lots of them were designed and built by european or american architects, there are many foreign embassies in that area too, including US embassy on Beijing xi road , Nanjing was capital city of china before 1949, my grandpa was a KMT army general he had a 3 story house back then, although not in this area , but in Xinjiekou area , the house is still there, its property of army now, the house were taken from my family in late 1950s, and my grandma then had to move to a village in Maogaoqiao area, where a factory my grandpa owned was, so in my childhood memory, every time we went to xinjie kong , my father will point at that house saying we used to live there
@@xiaoandmatt oh, I mixed up all the other neighborhood episodes. I thought they are in same areas, sorry. More exact I would like to say you love NanJing very much.

I’ve been to China many, many times before. But somehow never included Nanjing in my travel plans. After seeing this beautiful video, I will definitely make a point to visit. BTW, why are there so few people on the streets? The western media is claiming that people in China is dying everywhere since lifting zero COVID restrictions. And that’s the reason for so few people on the streets. Is there any truth to that? What are you seeing? Thanks
Yea you need to come to Nanjing! Yeah there are many people sick here and the streets were quite empty last week, but this week it seems more normal. I was actually sick with COVID last week, so I just sat home as well. I am actually about to film a video and it’s busy outside where I am. I do think there are people dying here in the hospitals, but I don’t know the numbers - no one does.
@@xiaoandmatt Thanks for the info. I always prefer information first hand. And will definitely visit Nanjing. Keep the nice videos coming. Can’t wait to see the next one.
I have a partner who lives in Tianjin. when I come to live in China she wants us to live in Xi'An, as she says. there are more foreigners and she is worried about what people will say about us in Tianjin. I'm Danish and I don't care what people say. and yes her sister also lives in Xi'An. otherwise I like Xi'An and Tianjin. beautiful cities. but is used to living by the sea. i like your city it looks quiet and calm. and is not far from Tianjin and Beijing either. would like to see much more of it. and maybe live there too. and maybe we can get sister to come closer 🤣.
