I do like the observations that Jonathan is not truly insane, just evil. And that his experiments are the only motivating factor in his life. Sounds allot like him.
Freddyfan951
Remember, no one is born evil.
mellennia williamson humans are not naturally good.
Hes a sadist
@@mellennia9 I beg to differ
That's the thing about anti-social disorders, the person often isn't insane, just not wired like the rest of us.
That does often stem from their background but the worst kind of people are fully aware of what they do most of the time.
you know, scarecrow talking about how decisions are products of fear is kind of true
So true!
Not quite, it only makes sense if you ask certain questions like "Why do you go to university?" The answer in his view would be because you fear working a poor paying job,but if it is a multiple choice question like"Should you study medicine or psychology?" The hypothesis falls apart as there is no fear involved in the decision making.
SummbuddiesFriend but there is my friend, fear in the decision making process, every excitation, every doubt , is a semi-imperceptible fear, small but there is at it's core fear. For fear is necessary to measure decisions. It is still there
So you're scared when you decide on whether to eat a cupcake or a cookie?
well if someone picks cupcake they cant have the cookie and vice versa that's a fear (a silly one but still a fear)
Fun fact about scarecrow, you would assume he’s completely harmless without his fear toxin. NOPE.
When it came to the fourth tape, it shows that Jonathan crane is still pretty dangerous without his fear toxin. Being a psychologist he knows how the mind works and all he needs to do is talk to invoke fear in you.
The Fear of Faith comics really highlighted that aspect of him. Where he just use words to tear apart a community causing fear and distrust simply because he wanted to observe how this tightknit community will unravel for an experiment.
He also pulled off something like that in the stories of Batman No Man's Land.
Yeah, people (including writers) misunderstand Scarecrow’s gimick as being fear gas when his gimmick is fear itself, the gas is just a tool.
@@daneyal7162 thats the one he is referring to
Kellerman is feeling anxious because Crane’s cologne is infected with the gas. It wasn’t just because of his mind games.
This game turned Scarecrow into my favorite Batman villain, and I am thrilled to hear he's going to be the big bad in Arkham Knight!
Until the Joker showed up and ruined that.
AffirmingToe nah, it was just Batman's fears expressed via Joker through the toxin
Shame they completely changed his character
Harpdashian He looked great in it though and had a great voice actor
@@timothywillox8564 I agree, John Noble did an incredible job and the design was just beautiful. :) I was so very happy that Scarecrow got to be the main villain in that game, he certainly deserves it. :)
Dr.Murphy is a reference to Cillian Murphy who played Scarecrow in one of the batman movies.
NOICE, I missed that :)
omg
MoonMoonFang Also I believe Dr. Combs is a reference to Jeff Combs, who voiced him in The New Batman Adventures
He was in all three Nolan movies, though the last two were cameos.
Nazareth it’s Thomas fooling Shelby
I like these tapes because it shows how scary Batman is to these villains. They're so smart, and they spend so much time carefully working on their plans. Imagine yourself constantly scheming and planning for months to achieve something, and suddenly a dark figure rushes in, destroys it all, and beats you senseless, and then takes away all your power (via jail and the neutralization of their powers). We always see him planning and see Bruce Wayne, but, from their perspective...he'd be truly terrifying.
Fun fact Batman is the only thing scarecrow fears
@bruhmanofyear2 fuck the gotham tv show. (respectfully)
@@bruhmanofyear2647 Arkham Scarecrow though is truly scared senseless of Batman, when he got injected with the fear toxin, all he saw was a nightmarish version of Batman spreading his wings while being surrounded by bats from everywhere.
And they say Batman doesn't have a sense of humor
He has shown to in some moments of many iterations of him :)
Even in Batman Vs Superman he has a few moments and more when he's not in the suit :)
@@APrematureBaby Don't you forget in BTAS,he let Joker hang around and smile lol
Weirdly enough, Crane's persona in these interview tapes is closer to his calmly threatening attitude in Arkham Knight; whenever you encountered him in-game, though, he was such a cackling, shrieking maniac that I'm not sure this kind of complete personality shift is believable.
Simone Roberto Well remember he was mauled by killer croc. That was probably enough to push him over the edge.
*****
I'm sure that's the in-universe explanation for it (however weird). Out-of-context, though, I assume it was just a nod to the character's evolution between Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures.
Simone Roberto
_He blames Batman for leaving him to die in the Asylum. What started as an obsession towards fear, began an obsession to destroy the legacy of the Batman._
I honestly prefer the cackling, shrieking maniac Crane over how he was in Knight. That was much creepier.
Wish he had the same voice though, the knight one feels so generic
"How are you today?"
"I keep telling you this is my session"
"It was your session but not anymore"
Scarecrows mind is so op
"I'm AFRAID not"
"Interesting choice of words, doctor. Tell me. What are you AFRAID of?"
Wasn't that clever or not?!?
I'm AFRAID it wasn't.
@@jakerivas754 I FEAR it is
How does that make you feel? Threatened, humiliated? Scaaared?
So badass!
You know whats so ironic Is that batman made scarecrow feel these three things in the end of arkham knight If you think about it
@@hamzahwaheed9528 When u think about it💯
Lost! frightened? confused? GOOD Haha
God I love the voice they gave him here, it's calm and collected but SO unsettling.
Dino Andrade voiced Scarecrow in the game.
He is so powerful. He can bend reality by just asking questions. He is truly a mysterious person. Psychology, scarecrow is a master of fear and manipulation. Crane is sadistic. But a genius
When I heard Batman’s voice at the end, I thought it was a guard who wasn’t afraid of anything until the when Crane wondered how he wasn’t afraid. That’s when it turned out to be Batman.
I instantly knew it was Batman being I can recognize the voice.
You can hear the predatory tone enter Crane's voice when Stephen says "afraid."
For some reasons... I really, really like his voice... I'm not too sure why... XD
Sapphiresenthiss Same i hate the fact they changed it in Arkham Knight it was like he was an entirely new person
@@PICFL1 I preferred his voice in Arkham Knight but this voice is awesome too
batman asylum was heavily inspired on the cartoons with some goofy looking visuals and voices. For some reason it got totally lost in knight.
Same
I love the voice of this Scarecrow, because you have to remember that Crane in the comics is a gaunt and relatively small man. He shouldn't have a deep, booming voice, it should have a cadence much more like this one; a little more high pitched and shrill. I feel like that also makes his voice stand out and become more alarming, it's like the calm equivalent of a scream of terror. Also his laugh is absolutely legendary.
That being said, I'm also partial to Robert Englund's Scarecrow just cuz he's literally Freddy Krueger
Dr. Crane aka The Scarecrow is definitely my favorite Batman Villain Ever to be created. He's absolutely the best. Also his analysis on fear is actually very correct.
Yes, this game was my first entry into the Batman's world, and I still think it's the perfect tutorial for new fans, and from the first time I played this, Scarecrow has become my absolute favourite too. :) He is one of the most interesting, most fascinating villains, I like him because he's not a brute, he's a thinker, he is smart, eloquent, charming even when he wants to be. And I'm really happy that he's been appearing a lot more in the popular culture these last few years, it's really making me quite happy. :) And yes, he is of course, quite correct, everyone is afraid of something, even though they don't always have to be aware of it.
I like crane but my favorite villan Is joker
I am so pumped for Arkham Knight, I adore Scarecrow
I hope that you enjoyed John Noble's version as much as I have! 😁
It was pretty good. But still I liked Asylums voice actor better
These tapes once again show that the Scarecrow not only counts on his fear gas
Yes! In a 2 part comic in fact, he used psychological torture to escape.. Then proceeded to destroy Gotham with nothing more then the pen.. And of course the most brilliant mind in the rogues gallery. Jonathan is the ultimate nemesis for the dark night. (Fear against fear) also happens to be batman so weak spot. (Just not easy to hit)
It’s kinda cool to hear Scarecrow’s voice without all the filters/distortions
It seems ironic that he gave them the fear toxin on Valentine's Day.
how so?
Rockcroc2000 Well, not necessarily ironic. Just kind of funny that he chose that day, of all days. The day of love and stuff.
Coral Roper ahah, the fear on the day of love.
Rockcroc2000 Precisely
Coral Roper LUB
Holy Carp! Batman just owned his ass
Yeah I know at first I was like that not Batman but then later I knew it was Batman because he said in Arkham at the end what’s wrong scared
crane in asylum: 🤓
crane in knight: 👿
Opposite.
Asylum Crane 10x more scary than the edgelord we got in Knight
Getting mauled made him cooler lol.
Obvious reference to Cillian Murphy, aka Scarecrow in Batman Begins, in first interview. Scarecrow has no empathy, which is surprising considering his own background. It makes me hate him all the more as a villain. Have to say; Arkham Scarecrow, or Dungeon Master Scarecrow as I call him, is probably the scariest version of him I've seen.
Also reference to his voice actor in New Adventures, Jeffery Coombs.
John Canary Well, I jumped on the "comic book heroes" bandwagon just over a year ago. I didn't grow up with the animated series. I won't catch all the references. Sorry.
Well, I didn't grow up with them either. Just something I know.
AnaxErik4ever
Why dungeon master scarecrow?
There are 2 things Scarecrow is apparently afraid of: Bats and Killer Croc.
THE SECOND RECORDING WAS ON MY BIRTHDAY AND SCARECROW IS MY FAVOURITE VILLAIN THIS MAKES ME HAPPY 😂😂
He sounds even creepier in Arkham Knight
'Do I need to go on?' GOOSEBUMPS.
interview #3, crane has some good points on how our lives are governed by fear.
Dr. Murphy is most likely a reference to Cillian! Since Scarecrow's test subject, Dr. Combs, shares the last name with Jeffrey Combs, who voiced Scarecrow in The New Batman Adventures.
“Who says it’s not?”
Damn, that got me.
Am I the only one that loves his voice?
Nope, a lot people love this voice and I do too as well, it's a definitive voice cause I can hear it with almost every version of Scarecrow.
1:52 Scarecrow definitely proves Dr Kellerman right in Arkham Knight. Hey that rhymes.
Huh. For an evil criminal, Scarecrow has surprisingly decent manners.
He’s quite sane, but simply evil
John Noble talks about that in an interview video for Arkham Knight. "The man's a psychopath, seriously! But he's also brilliant. He's a very reasonable man in the way he talks." Something like that.
The events of Arkham Asylum were basically a joint plot by Joker and Scarecrow. Scarecrow was the one who helped Joker escape by gassing Sharp when he was about to kill Joker in his Spirit of Arkham personality.
I think I like how this Scarecrow seems to be influenced by Herbert West from Re-Animator.Herbert West was only interested in his research and didn't seem to care much for people. Hell, they even reference Jefferey Combs who played Herbert West and he even voiced Scarecrow too!
Really loved both versions of the Scarecrow in Asylum and Knight. I do wish the audiotapes in Knight were more like the ones in Asylum. Would’ve been more fun to hear.
Scarecrow was somehow more terrifying on poor quality video tapes that can’t hurt you than he was as a giant with razor sharp needle-fingers in a halloucination trying to kill you
i prefer this voice to his arkham knight voice
2:10 - I think Scarecrow really does have a point here. And, like Dr. Kellerman said, I believe he is quite sane.
It’s crazy to see what he becomes by the time of Arkham Knight. Sometimes a failed man really is the most dangerous.
I love how Arkham asylum had that comic book style
I like the androgynous quality of Scarecrow's voice.
Yeah, I think the fact it sounds a bit snarky fits his Character and look very well. He's scrawny and tall, so I really couldn't think of him in a different light.
Dr. Combs is a reference to Jeffery Combs, who voiced Scarecrow in The New Adventures of Batman, AKA the origins of the noose necktie.
the thing i dislike about arkham knight is that they didnt bring Scarecrows voice actor back this voice would have been PERFECT for the arkham knight game
+LetsPlay “LPMR” MusicianReviewer No it wasn't. And John Noble was a better Scarecrow than Dino Andrade anyway.
Not really Scarecrow is supposed to sound demonic not charismatic
Although Andrade is my favorite Scarecrow, I don't think his voice would work with character that just sits on his ass through the entire game and sending threats to Gotham and Batman. Seriously, what the hell they did with Scarecrow?
Do you really Scarecrow's character design in Arkham Knight would've match Dino's Scarecrow voice?
Xehanort10 Dino was still great imo.
Scarecrow is undoubtedly evil, but it's not like he was born that way. He was probably always eccentric and on the weird side even as a kid, but according to comics, he was not only bullied and tormented by his classmates just for being a scrawny nerd, but also abused by his great-grandmother for being born illegitimately - by being forced to work in a cornfield while being attacked by crows that she herself provoked into aggression with chemicals and rat blood. On top of that, he then finds the classic character Ichabod Crane relatable - only to then read about how he is brought to his downfall by fear, which gave his bullies more ideas about how to mock and belittle him. It doesn't excuse Jonathan Crane's crimes as the Scarecrow, of course, but I doubt anyone would go through stuff like that without mental scars.
I wonder, if Scarecrow got infected by his own gas, what would he see? What would the other Criminals see? What would Joker see? lol
Or Deathstroke, that'd be interesting.
In either the knightfall or the shadow of the bat story arcs, scarecrow and joker teamed up to ransom of the mayor of gotham. Scarecrow eventually betrayed joker and sprayed him with his fear gas but found out that the gas had no effect on him whatsoever and hypothesized that due to jokers mental insanity his mind is so warped that it dosnt even process fear , Joker later beat him within an inch of his life with a chair
MisterXenomorph Yes that is true, but later in Batman/ Superman Joker was affected by Scarecrows fear gas. Joker would even have been killed, if Bats didnt save him.
Fear gas doesn't work on Joker, because he simply doesn't understand the concept of fear.
Dakota Nelson But like I said above. Fear Gas already did work on Joker. So you are wrong.
Dakota Nelson Oh, he understands, he's a psychotic sociopath, not an idiot. He knows how to use it and everything so he understands fear. Perhaps not how we do but he knows how to make people afraid.
Dr. Murphy and Dr. Combs, I've seen what you did Rocksteady
one of my favorite villians of all time!
And people say this is the worst Arkham game…….literally some of the best voice acting I’ve heard. Big props to whoever voiced scarecrow in this game.
.....mind telling me who is sayin asylum is the worst arkham game?
_i just wanna "talk" with them_
I just want to talk to him. I just…..want to talk to him. I just want to shoot him. I just want to shoot him
how are people saying this is the worst Arkham game??? this literally started the whole series??? its a classic
@@lagomorphixx I know right? For me the worst is Knight
Whoever said it’s the worst? lol
4:18 crane said to batman how is it not affecting him
batman says: because IM BATMAN!
Gotta admit, I'm kinda curious what I'd see if exposed to the toxin. I haven't got a clue what I'm scared of.
alot of people are scared of simple thing
Heights
Darkness
Ghosts
etc
This character is amazing
scarecrow likes to ask on existential fears of humans, I like that in some level because he like to test the limits of the human mind.
His name is "scarecrow" and his real last name is "Crane"
Kinda makes sense
1:42 Oh Kellerman why did you have to mention the word afraid in front of Crane. You should have known it would set him off on one of his fear rants.
Jeez. Croc did a number on his vocal cords.
Tape 3 was the best.
I like the 3rd interview because Scarecrow makes some good points.
Have you noticed Asylum Interview #1 takes place on Valentine's Day? It's cool if you did.
#12 does, you're right! I'm not sure if I did notice that. Good find!
would you like some ice for that burn Jonathan
Hes my fav super villian
I like him he's nuts and sadistic.
Wolf Rine nope. Just evil.
This is probably my favorite portrayal and voice for Scarecrow. Shame they changed... EVERYTHING about him in Arkham Knight.
@bruhmanofyear2 he was scarier in asylum
@bruhmanofyear2 he was also a major villain in the game.
@bruhmanofyear2 we have different opinions. Scarecrow in knight really doesn't do anything scary, in asylum he's a monster you have to hide from, he just sounds so demonic and evil but also smart. Have you played asylum?
@bruhmanofyear2 anyway in arkham knight they basically destroyed the character that was previously built, which was disappointing to me considering how awesome he was in asylum, and the creepy easter eggs in city. Granted, he's still one awesome villain in knight, but he's too much like a normal dude. Arkham knight scarecrow is probably my 6th scariest Rouge in arkhamverse. Asylum croc taking 1 and crane taking 2.
I've read a speculated idea that Scarecrow _in universe_ made the change in his demeanor and approach, since his first one didn't work to scare Batman. He went with something different for his next bout with the Dark Knight.
Murphy and Combs are they references to who played the scarecrow in the past
@Angela Fernando sweet
Chances are Scarecrow won't be in Arkham Origins and will be replaced by either Copperhead or The Mad Hatter. :( He's my favorite, and I would love to see how this little tape unfolded for real.
This comment is 8 years old, but I still just wanna say nice prediction, got it in 1.
I like the cillian murphy references. I question scarecrows voice in this game though, sounds so... Feminine...
I like his voice. He sounds creepy but his voice is pretty high. Gotta love his evil laugh though.
I like how in both this and knight his last words to tauntingly asking if he’s scared
These were my favorite ingredients to find around they were so cool to listen too
I can't say I particularly enjoy Andrade's vocals here. Still, it's nice to have audio of this; I can't afford to buy an entirely new console just to get 3 or 4 games.
2:21-2:36, Wow. Life.
No, the social pressure of the Adulthood.
Love being single :D
hmm
perdedoronline So true! While not necessarily those specific examples, he's right in that most of the actions I take are to prevent outcomes I am afraid of.
hmm
I love scarecrow he the best villain in the world long Mary he live
2:11 - 2:42
When the villain isn't wrong.
Well with that kind of logic, Crane became a villain because he was scared of being bullied, or more specifically showing people any signs of weakness. Before that he became a professor of psychology because he was scared of not showing his potential, and for the same reason he gave about jobs.
@@sarahsims6164 Thing is, he would probably agree with you.
I somewhat am moved on how this Dr. Kellerman somehow cares for Crane despite his atrocities, even trying his best to cure the mad Scarecrow along to an extent that he is not insane, though evil. Even Crane's work in the past has Kellerman recognizing that he was once a respected doctor....
Anyone else think he comes off as a bit of a smart ass? XD
The voice of Dr. Stephen Kellerman is Keith Ferguson, who voices Reaper in Overwatch and Bloo in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Who would've thought?
Mark Todd wait...REAPER IS ALSO BLOO??
Al Speid That’s right. Surprise for me as well.
Was that Batman in the last interview
@TheHonestDutch/Irish/Italian guy Until Arkham Knight.
I like to think that Batman was either bluffing about the cure or it was a very small amount because if that was true about a antidote why not have it all the time or in the batmobile?
Because Scarecrow is constantly changing and improving his formula
Causing the need to constantly make a new antidote
4:20 *inserts jokes about his mother, rock and roll, and Alfred naked*
I wouldn't say that he is my favourite villain, Joker remains number 1, but I like him and his evilness. And let's be realistic we all would want to have his fear gas in our possession, I know I would.
Why does Scarecrow sound like a posh old woman?
I KNOW! That annoyed me the entire game. He sounds like either an old lady or a calmer Invader Zim.
freddyfan951 He's probably trying to sound like his Great Grandma Keeny.
Considering how much he despised her, i doubt he would do that. At least his voice in Arkham Knight is much more fitting.
freddyfan951 Yeah. He ended up killing her after he'd had enough of her abuse.
Scarecrow is a pretty vengeful person, even if he was justified in some way. He is pretty much a self made orphan since he killed practically everyone in his family. But i'm sure Jonathan doesn't regret it.
Fear is power
Dr. Murphy and Dr. Combs? Is that supposed to be a reference to Cillian Murphy and Jeffery Combs?
Yes
Sometimes I wonder if during these interviews, Crane is not wearing his mask and his actual face is visible….
I'm sure it is, just wish we had seen it before he had his "little accident".
scarecrows voice here is different maybe he didnt wore his mask when has his mask on have different unhuman voice here the voice is normal
I'm six feet and weight merely 108 pounds. I'm still alive... I think...
This guy was pretty good but I guess the reason they switched him out in Arkham Knight was because he didn't sound sinister enough but still I wish he didn't have that big of a roll in the new game to me he's just always seemed like a low tier character who didn't deserve it
he did deserve it, he's the best batman vilain in my opinion.
+xbourassa one of the best but not the greatest that title goes to Joker
J Double C Nah, Dino's (his VA) back for the mobile game
Scarecrow in knight looks cool but this interpretation is way better. Has more energy.
Jonathan Crane/ Scarecrow is probably the most evil character with threat with terror unlike Joker🤡and the rest of other Batman’s villains that are unstable and homicdal, only doesn’t belong in asylum but in black-gate prison and with the tape no 5 the end Kevin conroy’s performance was outstanding!❤️👍 when batman 🦇🦸🏻♂️breaking entry background stopping crane’s fear toxin from spreading showing what a true hero he is 🤩🦸🏻♂️when he gets really angry and scaring villains including scarecrow 👍 Kudos to Kevin conroy RIP miss him💔
Lol 6 ft. But he's 140 how is he so skinny then!! Not to mention he tricks doctors and his fears totally dominate people. But he could have survived unless killer croc broke his skinny back XD.
Jonathan Crane is fucking amazing!!!!
I prefer John Noble's performance much more. Was really sinister.
You really listen when noble speaks he made the game so amazing!
Man...I had my noise cancelling head phones on. Nothing like having Mr. Noble voicing scarecrow right into your ear.
Ali AlQames
Now imagine ak scarecrow is actually there, speaking to u while ur using those headphones and listening to his voice. THAT would be interesting.
At the end of fear, Oblivion.
I wish they kept this voice actor, despite the higher pitched voice (even partially because of it) he ends up being far more threatening than the one in knight
4:45 dang he got Jonathan good..
ONG💀
I'm glad they changed his voice actor in arkham knight. In this, you can totally tell this is the same voice actor that does mad hatter. it throws me off.
brian lee It's not the same actor
his VOICEEE
old times I will get my revenge on batman and killer croc again!!!!!
Hey the voice actor also does monsoon in metal gear reveangenance.
Fear! DNA of the soul!
