  • Rota Vicentina/Fisherman’s Trail, Day 2: Vila Nova de Milfontes to Almograve, 12km
    A ferry ride, a stick!, my toes in the sand, a room of my own, sunset on the beach… do walking days get much better than this?

    Hi Nadine,
    Thank you for the video :)
    Trying to choose between 1st half of March and 2nd half of April for Fishermans Trail. Any advice please?

    Looks like such a peaceful relaxing trail, can't wait to see the rest of it.

      It really was! Especially this day; since I didn't have a long stage, I could really take my time and soak it all in.

    Two shower heads in the same shower? Is that a little decadent?

    Hi Nadine, love your channel and videos, I’m planning the Rota Vicente for next year, wondering the name of the place you stayed at the end of day two. It was a private room behind a restaurant.
    Thank you

      So exciting to hear that you're planning a walk on the Rota Vicentina! The name of the place I stayed at the end of Day 2, in Almograve, was Casa Isa. Hope that helps!

    The very first time I have slept in a tent was on the Almograve beach. My uncle and aunt from Beja had a place on a camping in Almograve, just on top of the cliffs overlooking the beach. I was there on holidays with my girlfriend.
    From Almograve we drove to Quarteira, Algarve where the same uncle and aunt had a 4 room appartement where we spend a couple of days.
    The appartement was empty, ad my uncle and aunt's 2 sons would come to Quarteira in the following week. My uncle and aunt stayed another couple of days in their tent in Almograve before joyning their sons in Quarteira.
    We just closed the door and left the keys behind. That was almost 45 years ago.
    Great to see Costa Vicentina has become so populair in recent years, although it is still not over crowded with tourists. Vila Nova de Mil Fontes is really amazing with 2 sides river delta beaches and 2 sides Ocean beaches. The only negative fact about these beaches is: No dogs allowed.
    While in the the rest of Portugal dogs are allowed on the beaches, unless on restricted, rental areas.

    Nadine! I'm so excited to see you do the Rota Vicentina! I watched your Camino videos, and then did the RV as a practice run for the Camino that I will do in Sept. I loved the RV so much. I also stayed at Ahoy in Porto Covo. I wish you an amazing hike. I found it to be one of the most beautiful slices of the world, and I hope you do too. Thanks for your amazing videos! You've been such a help to me as I become a real hiker. 😊

    @0:36 I stood at this very bridge (although I didn't catch the ferry across). There were so many cats!

    Hi friend, I have to agree with you about the coffee and bread and butter, they have the BEST fresh bread, I like my bread toasted way too dark haha. mostly I ate the pastel de nata with double espresso in the morning. when I arrived back home I noticed my regular coffee tasted so watery! what were your top 3 favourite things to eat on trail or meals you enjoyed? I was a fan of the octopus salad (I know, I saw the octopus documentary) mostly I made a sandwich with cheese or peanut butter, I carried a whole jar lol. by the end of my walk I was making sandwiches with cream cheese and thin butter cookies for crunch - I ate much differently that I do at home and that was fun - just followed my heart and belly! oh and I don't drink beer but I started enjoying a cold beer or two at the end of a hot day walking!!

      I know, sometimes food choices tend to get... creative... when walking! I'm not sure that I discovered a favorite meal/food this time (aside from pastel de nata, I ate as many as I could!!) I was going to try the octopus salad, but Marizka (the girl we met in Porto Covo, had coffee with before leaving) said that there were nuts in the salad (maybe?) and I'll allergic so I didn't try. But I had some good fish, and I also drank the Somersby sparkling cider... that was a nice end-of-day treat!

    Thank you for all of your wonderful videos. I walked the entire Camino Frances in 2019 and the Primitivo last year. I was so glad that the weather was good for the Hospitales stage, especially after viewing your video of your walk on the Hospitales route. I have also done videos and songs about my Camino. Will try to get enough nerve to share the link with you in the future. Keep walking and sharing!

      Thank you so much for your kindness and support- this truly means so much to me. Did you love the Primitivo? Some stages are pretty tough, but it's such a beautiful route! Despite not having great weather for the Hospitales stage, it still might be my most single favorite Camino stage ever... which means I need to return to see those views with clear skies! I'm so glad you had good weather. And yes, please, if you DO work up the nerve to share any videos/songs, I would love to see them :)

    That looks like the perfect Camino day, fantastic views. Glad you found your stick! "A little rough at the top and the bottom" - but hey, aren't we all ;)
    Looking forward to the rest of the journey. I really have to check in to this route.

    What an awesome day and wonderful scenery! Seeing the rope to pull yourself up from the beach brought back memories of the hike along the Olympic Coast here in WA---to get up over the headlands where the tide doesn't allow you to go around you have to climb some really long ropes and down the other side. Super nice room at the end!

      @NadineWalks  Рік тому

      Luckily the few times I had to use a rope, the path wasn't TOO challenging... in fact, it was kind of fun!

    What a wonderful day 2 on this walk! Being by the sea in Portugal is so relaxing ! What a cute room you had for the night. I adore the salads in Portugal - so simple but so healthy and delicious. Glad you had such a wonderful spring break.

    Hi! Do you think it is possible to do this trail during the summer (June)? I'm thinking about doing it with some friends but with all the heat and sun must be way harder... Thank you!

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  Рік тому +2

      Thank you Helena, this is great advice and it's hard for me to add anything else! The only other thing to keep in mind would be water and to make sure you're carrying enough. You can always restock when passing through towns, but there are some stages with no services where you'll have to carry all your water. These aren't super long stretches and it was fine for me in April, but in summer you'll want to carry more!

      Hi! Thanks to you both! I do know how hot it gets as I’m also portuguese, but, I have little hiking experience. Is it possible to organize in a way of doing the hiking in the morning before the 12 o’clock sun?

    A nice and rather beautiful trail. OK... I have to admit that it made me smile wide when you decided to keep the walking stick. Almost seemed as if the stick had been waiting and finally found a purpose again. Cheers and adventure on!

      I thought those two back-to-back videos were funny... in one breath I'm saying that I'm not keeping the stick, but less than a minute later I'd changed my mind. It makes me think of a children's book: the stick that was waiting for the right person to come along and pick it up, and then the adventures that the two of them had :)

    • @dathang
      @dathang Рік тому

      @@NadineWalks I agree to the children's book feel on the use of these sticks. I was thinking back to how you lost your stick at the end of your last Camino. There could be so many varients to stick adventures on these trails... told from the point of view of the stick. 🙂
