    This is great! The part where you used glass with a soldering iron to attach the legends kind of blew my mind with how genius that is. I may have to modify my keycap playground so that it can make legends that work with that method (so you can recess them for a smooth surface).

    The idea to use the glass to melt the bits together is amazing! makes sense I guess, but really clever! Another nice video, keep them coming man! (oh yeah, good shooting quality, good editing, lighting etc etc, really good production, as the rest of your vids too)

    The glass trick is amazing.
    So smart.
    It would be a pain to design but you could get all the keys flush if you designed the keys with slight indents in them for each letter and symbol.

    Will Outemu low profile switches with CHERRY/DSA caps work on this base? To keep almost the same height, but to get a real caps.
    They should be pin to pin compatible with standard switches.

    • @PavloKhmel
      @PavloKhmel  Рік тому +1

      I tried Outemu low-profile switches. I have them in this video ua-cam.com/video/2qzxGP9NStc/v-deo.html
      Outemu switches have too thick pins. I'm not able to insert them into the "cherry style" hot-swappable PCB.

    • @MrGarkin
      @MrGarkin Рік тому

      @@PavloKhmel it's a shame, good to know it could be incompatible with some hot-swap sockets.
      Here is the guy who did a similar mod, switches mostly worked, but he had same issues with sockets too.
      Most problematic were stabilizers, which are too tall for them. God knows where to get low-profile compatible stabs. May be they could be clipped.

    Wouldn't it be easier to print the keycaps right onto the letters? Stick the letters to the printing bed and print out the caps on top of them.

    • @PavloKhmel
      @PavloKhmel  2 роки тому

      The result with a glued letter to the printing bed could be better. Good idea. But not easier.
      Challenge 1: center the letter under the keycap.
      Challenge 2: keycap stem will be weaker if it is printed not under angle.

  • @JustVoylin

    Could you make some freecad tutorials on how you achieved this?

  • @airsoftbeast11234
    @airsoftbeast11234 2 роки тому +1

    Maybe would be better to print the key caps with the top facing the build plate so that you have a nice flat even textured (or smooth depending on print bed) face on the keys. It’ll also hide the layers when looking too down on it

    • @PavloKhmel
      @PavloKhmel  2 роки тому

      Yes, it will make a nice face for keycaps. I printed them under angle to make the keycap stem stronger. Stem printed without an angle is easier to break because of horizontal lines.

    • @airsoftbeast11234
      @airsoftbeast11234 2 роки тому

      @@PavloKhmel I suppose you could make them separate pieces and print at different orientation for the stem, and have a slot for the stem to go into (keeping it perfectly centered and perpendicular) then bond the two pieces. OR, print a shell for the actual key cap and stick it on one you have now (but slimmed down a few layer thickness in all directions) so that it fits over the top
