Was My DM Right To Force Romance Between DMPC & My Character? | Narrated D&D Story

- I’m so happy that the DMPC got murdered even after trying to cheat their way to some ridiculous roleplaying victory. Remember your character, your choices. Don’t let a DM control your character.

This DM didn't want to play D&D, she wanted to write a fanfic.
It always surprises me how many DMs do these kind of things.
And as usual with fanfic, it is just terrible.
Didn't even get past the prologue either
Want to know what's really sad? On the reddit page of this story, the OP said that this incident turned him off of D&D. Minmaxer found herself a new group and even invited OP but said no, it's sad that Minmaxer was the only one in this story to have a happy ending. . .
The paladin stopping the dmpc's speech with polearm master/sentinel was so funny.
literally got bonked by hornyjail bat
I love that min/maxer so much. Sounds like a great player, especially as they went to save the OP from the DMPC.
Forced romance of any kind is against consent. Period. I don't care what your story is, I don't care what is going on. I say no, I mean fuckin no, and push this at your peril.
No excuses.
you can make forced romance work in a darker campaign, but the player (unlike their char) still should be on board
Hope you and min/maxer found a good table to go to
Absolutely not! As others have said, this DM didn't want to play a game, she wanted to write a fanfic with her Gary Stu OC.
"Force"
and
"Romance"
is an oxymoron. A Romance CAN'T be forced. A Romance has to involve mutual consent otherwise it's just harassment or worse.
When 'that guy' is the female DM.
Take the min/max'er with you and RUN.
Well the Min Maxer here was "This Guy" as a lady & what an MVP she was
What a terrible DM. I was worried this story wouldn't have a happy ending for the players. Glad they took down that awful DMPC.
The moment DMPC is 2 levels higher then party that threw the first of many red flags.
When I do a session and I have a dmpc, I always make sure that the other players take the final charge and only interfere if things are not going in their favor. I prefer to to guide my players, not hold their hand and coddle
I did something like that once. At the very first session my players were introduced to my dmpc. The leader of their group, a legendary warrior, wise mentor, and tactical genius.
She died at the end of the same session. And yes, it was scripted.
Is there main character syndrome version for DMs? Because this is how it sounds (and it is nightmare) - DMs that are there just to tell their story and you/we are all just side characters
I'd call it "author syndrome"
“Bet someone wishes DM PC was here.” Hits the sesame notes as “where’s poochie?”
The only time I've seen forced romance work was precisely when the whole point WAS that it was forced. One of the PCs being mind-controlled for a day, marrying to someone he cared nothing for and once he woke up, was told breaking his wife's feelings would kill her, all caused by a trickster God that was having a laugh.
Like 20 sessions later, the dude learns that not only the curse was fake as shit, his 'wife' was told the exact same thing and none of them felt ANYTHING from the start. By the end, that PC and the NPC did become best friends from the stupid experience.
That DM was despicable, and there are very few other ways of putting it.
Don't even need to watch the video. No, your DM isn't right to force a relationship.
There are red flags of behaviour, this is the toxic partner telling you to accept their toxic behaviour without ANY gaslighting
Oh I thought I heard this story before! One of my favorites I ever listened to. I normally call bullshit on Reddit stories, but sometimes they're too entertaining for me to care.
Plus, a very *tiny* sliver of respect towards the that lady DM who actually let her damn rogue get killed. Alone, and unloved.
Edit: Just wanted to do a quick shout out for this art. Like, really , it's *really* good.
Though it would make a very interesting Yandere story
@@Metalisalearning77 right!?
Or perhaps a scenario (NPCs) for the players to unravel & remedy/escalate to various or hilarious results
Technically, she didn't "let" the rogue get killed. There was no way to lie to the party about his stats since she made them so public
Just based on the title, no. No person should be forced into a relationship between characters. It has to be agreed on.
That DM is sickening. I wish Him and Min/Maxer should have said that if the DM just wanted to rail road them they don't want to continue playing in their campaign. That would at least give the DM a chance to change things while setting a clear boundary
*No* i've been in two Roleplays were a romance was more or less forced on my character and it sucks! I don't care what story goal it's meant to achieve, it's never worth the expense of the another players comfort. Yirbel Lives yeah yeah...
whoops. i slipped and my sword went through there chest. rolling for coup de grace😜
Ive seen this many times but have no idea what it means, what is "yirbel lives" about?
No. The Dm is wrong on so many levels. They are violating OP's Consent
This is both a horror story and a glory story lmao
I hate to declare this but this implied 'ship' was worse than Twilight!!
& Twilight was bad enough!?
& no doubt the Min/Maxer was the MVP in that session!
I would just leave, say "well you can just obviously rp with out me. you don't need me here." take my character and go.
Yes, the DM was wrong.
The DM cannot take away player agency, tell a player how to run their character, or force a character's player to do or feel anything. This was just a bad, and hopefully, inexperienced DM.
So I got a dmpc story that also ends in the dmpc dying.
Short version: It was a one on one session with this insane dm. My arcane archer and his dmpc are up against some half dragons. Being an air genasai, I just float up out of reach and pick them off with arrows. The dmpc however gets roasted by like five breath weapon attacks from each half dragon and eventually dies. When it was over, I asked him how they got so many breath weapons and he said it’s in the stat block. He then showed it to me and I pointed out the recharge mechanic. He looked at me like I grew a second head as I explained how it worked. After that he decided to be petty and give me nothing for the session and I think that was the last time I ever played with him.
He was a real piece of work.
Ooooh uuggghhhhhh....
Nope, I would have got up and quit that game once I noticed the while DMPC.....
Currently in an RP, and some NPCs sometimes helps us so much, that he's had to put some on the bus, so that we don't rely too much on those characters.
They still talk, but it's far more complicated, and it would be hard to explain the friendship to others.
It's fine for characters to rp with NPCs and try to get info out of them, but you've got to be careful if you bring powerful allies a bit too much, cause at times, even the DM doesn't want to rely too much on him. We've done that, and he's had to be creative..
If you ever need to add a DMPC to a game, then their role should *ALWAYS* be one that supports the PCs. The players as a whole are the main characters, never the DMPC.
Good times to have a DMPC [my opinion]
#1: When you can't get a good amount of players
#2: You realize your players aren't strong enough to take on a plot required fight and need a small push
The End [imo]
Currently playing my 2nd game as a player, planning to be a DM next year...
Any tips on how to do good DMPCs?
@@Metalisalearning77 try to keep 'em on the same level as the players, don't overshadow the players, and make sure your players are on board.
@@LiMe251OK.... could they (with Player's permission) be part of their character background? Or would that be pushing it?
@@Metalisalearning77 that's something you'd have to discuss with the individual player
when I have to use DMPCs I have my players control them in battle.
Planning to be DM myself & after watching this I'm going to do my best NOT to do what's happened here
No forcing romance is a no-no. Your characters don't have to enter a romance if you the player do not consent. Whilst not as serious as IRL it's still an issue of consent as you the player control that character.
Not only that often forced romances by a DM usually is a power move to either force IRL some kind of deluded version of "romance" to bloom with the player they are targeting or to roleplay their NSFW fantasies without the player's consent especially if not told in advance or questioning whether or not players want that kind of content.
So it's a reg flag if it's forced and it's a sign the long-term goal for the DM is to use it as an avenue to SA the target player of DMs interest. If the player does not consent of course so would likely just have me leave the table citing the reason to other players.
There can be romance for the humor of course but even then it's under the player's control whether or not they want to continue with the scene or not. But consent is always the issue in any game regardless of a player or their character's sex, sexuality, or gender identity.
The min-maxer sounds like a fun player from the story I hate the idea of forcing romance.
Story 1
The OP is a yaoi fan girl that time warped from the mid 00’s when Gravitation and Loveless were the only gay fiction in the anime community, and fan girls wrote tons of poorly written and characterized fan fics.
I will say the fan fiction has gotten better, as have boys love.
As for this DM, forcing a romance on a player is a big no no and super not cool-be it hetereo or queer.
Wow! She is totally a control freak.
Damn the dm was terrible, that sucks man
I liked good stories, not drama. Thanks for the good tiems.
This kind of issue could have been headed off by session zero safe spacing discussion .
Women who fetishize gay male relationships are some of the most lacking in self awareness people ever. I hope to always have friends and players as good as that min/maxer.
Female basement dwellers like this DM were pretty common on tumblr before the great collapse.
It’s wild because 2/3 of my players love to romance npc’s lol
FTR, a DM trying to force something like this on another person's character is a gross violation of consent. Nothing wrong with a consensual relationship, but this was just the DM trying to insert her yaoi fantasies.
min maxer an op have the best character romance ^^
I don't even need to listen to everything.
No. He wasn't
In my opinion, and someone who’s been on both sides of the DM screen I’m gonna say this dungeon Masters should not force their NPC‘s on player characters know if the player characters, the one that initiates it that’s fine, but I don’t think you did dungeon Masters have the right to force their PCs whether they’re male or female on anyone specially if the character doesn’t want it There is just such a thing is no meeting no and if you tell them you’re not interested in your not interested in going there and if they continue to push it then just walk away because it’s not worth it. I’m sorry I’m giving up years of playing DND because I could never find a party they didn’t want to be serious about sexual issues and believe me I met some mentally deviant her people in my time but when you tell someone you’re not interested in it and they keep pressing it that’s harassment
Oh god..... THIS story....
Can you spell "railroad" ?
"I didnt leave cause of midmaxer" then talk to the MM and leave with them. Geez not many brains on this Op
Victim blaming. Weird flex but okay.
I don't know why these kind of people play DND. You like fanficition and cheesy romance novels? To each their own. But you can't create a game group for a team game if your only going to play by yourself. Dragging others along is not okay. Honestly, if you have enough experience to create an advertisement for a DND group then you have the experience to go into notepad app and type up a fanfiction instead of being selfish. 99% of players are not going to let you say how their characters feel. They aren't going to drop themselves at your characters feet and lick your boots. No they most ikely came to specifically avoid that kind of stuff. Like I said if you like fanfiction that is ok. But it is honestly a better idea to just go into a notepad app on your computer, phone, tablet, or whatever you have and just write down this grand story you have in your head. Don't host a DND session to try to write it. Just don't
It's a generational thing, in that a whole generation of players now think D&D is Critical Role and the like. Instead of it being about dice rolls helping to shape a story, they want to tell their story, and the dice are just sort of incidental. I highly doubt you will see this problem in any game with players from the old days, or experienced players beyond about 30 years old.
This is another DM forcing their fetish on their players, in this case yaoi.
Nope nope nope im not going to listen to this story
Wrong and sickening to pervert DnD like this...
If dm wanted to seduce the Claric should have been bard not a rogue unless bards/rogue
I blasted coom so hard. Yes yes yes
Are you the toxic af DM? I sincerely hope you seek professional help before you rape someone.
Ok.
Sheesh, don't force your BL fantasies on others, that DM sounded a lot like a fujoshi (girls who love boys who love boys), on the other hand minmaxer MVP of the show, saved our OP from being power top... because a bottom he wasn't.
also thanks for sharing these tales, I raise my keg for Oogie the Honorary Dwarf (what?, everyone has their own favourite DNDtales characters)
yah I had a dm and or fellow rp/mod like this multi-times, and holy shit it was miserable.... Every. single . TIME.
I'm waiting for the day this situation goes differently but after 4 different separate situations with a new fujoushi in the group, I've YET to see this scenario deviate. You either indulge in their BL ship or ELSE. My character either Dies, the champaign dies, I'm forced to leave because I wont play along, or I'm a rival for their own ship (even when I'm NOt participating in ships/romance) and thus I must be *removed*. ugh...
Oh god..... THIS story....
