Wisconsin fan here, massive props to Perine, I just wish he'd do it during his own Heisman campaign, next year or his junior year. Sooners look set at RB for the years to come, great kid, great back
Thanks for keeping it classy, man. Sincerely. Melvin Gordon is a hell of a running back -- all of college football knows this, and nothing that happened that day changed it in any way. It was just two special running backs having unbelievable games a week apart. As a Sooner fan, I'm glad I get to watch Perine run for, at least, two more seasons.
Wisconsin fan here, Samaje is an incredible talent, but if Wisconsin's staff let Melvin Gordon go a little bit more in the 4th, He would have the current record. That's all I'm saying.
bats2x That's entirely possible. Still, Samaje's last run was a huge gain; Kansas wasn't prepared to stop him. He could have had 500 yards on the day easily.
Krew Ryder This kid is a beast!!! I love the fact that he's humble and does it the right way. You can't help but root for a kid like that (unless he's playing my Longhorns). Believe me, you'll be seeing more from this kid. A lot more...
The best part about this video: scrolling down and seeing Gordon and Chubb fans trying to desperately downplay Perine's performance. Perine's work speaks for itself. Dude had 1,700 yards running against defenses that knew he was coming, in an offense that had no consistent passing threat. Recognize, or don't -- either way, this man is a monster.
The Labyrinthine Jar "Gordon fans trying to downplay Perine's performance." "1700 yards" Uhh dude Gordon played a team that actually had a winning season and finished with over 2500 yards that year so
Rice Huntsinger Perine did NOT start in this game and was taken out with over 12 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. He also did it in the rain. Argue all you want. Perine owns the record.
Nice to see some class fans come give props to one of the most decent humble guys in college football. Kid is a GREAT RB that will set the world on fire again next yr. Those of you who come here to call him names and make excuses are just sad weak people behind a keyboard. Congrats Perine you're the man!!
All these negative comments.....really sad people. I say let's celebrate both a great back in Melvin Gordon who produced many great things in his 4 years with the Badgers and an amazing Freshman in Samaje Perine who has shown flashes of brilliance and hopefully will continue for 2-3 years as a Sooner. These young men owe nothing to us. We are simply witnessing collegiate athletics at its finest. No choreographed dancing, no show me the money. Just unbelievable talent, work-ethic and yes great offensive lines. What we wouldn't give to be them. I'd love for my Sooners to be back as National Champions. But I certainly will settle for rooting for a team with many flaws as long as I see determined effort in each as a student and an athlete.
This is for the idiots who think he only got 427 yards because Kansas sucks. College football has been played for over 120 years and only 3 running backs have been able to run for 400 yards or more. I'm sure all the great backs in history have played against teams that were as bad as Kansas, but still only 3 have been able to do it. I don't think Kansas being a bad team has anything to do with it. I think rushing for 400 yards is a hard fucking thing to do, otherwise running backs would be doing it all the time. HELLO!?!?
+DAWG POUND 4 LIFE just stop commenting man you sound incredibly stupid on every point you try to make. give the man some credit and let me know when Chubb runs for 400+. he's too busy getting his shit rocked by alabama. roll fucking tide
+DAWG POUND 4 LIFE someone sounds butthurt that they had to fire their headcoach and that georgia sucks this year, maybe you wouldnt be so butthurt if chubbs was as good as you say he is
Perine ran for 427 against a 3-9 Kansas team that gave up 209.7 rushing yards a game. In '99, Tomlinson ran for 406 against a 5-7 U.T.E.P. team that gave up 208.2 rushing yards per game. I'm comparing him to Tomlinson, because both defenses were equally as poor at stopping the run. It's still an incredible feat. Not a single person in the history of N.C.A.A. F.B.S. football has rushed for more yards in a single game than Samaje Perine.
David Anderson Keep one thing in mind. The day Perine broke the record,it was raining. Also, they pulled him out of the game early in the 4th quarter. Hell, he could have ended up with over 600 yds if they left him in!
+David Anderson Credit where it is due, Melvin Gordon ran for 408 against a Nebraska team that was 7-5 and gave up 113.8 rushing yards per game, so it looks pretty good. As a Sooner, I am partial to Perine anyway, but Kansas or not, there are Derby winning horses who don't run as well in the slop.
TheWaterBottle 7-5 or 3-8.... yeah it was raining but Gordon played in the snow, also it took Gordon less than 3 qtrs to break the record and didn’t even play the 4th qtr. you can NOT take anything away from either running back both came out and snapped.
Remembering back to middle school at Dessau MS, this guy was the biggest/ strongest 8th grader you can imagine, look at him now. Some people are just born with determination for great things.
To all the people saying Gordon got 400 in 3 quarters. They took Perine out with 12 min left. He would like of got like 500 and 7tds had we let him keep running. Boomer Sooner
They took Gordon out with 2 minutes left in the 3rd meaning Perine had 5 extra minutes of game tine where he got 19 more yards. I think Gordon would have gotten more and perine played against an absolutely terrible Kansas where Gordon played against a ranked Nebraska. Gordon was more impressive.
+King Matt I think he was done at that point, but I love the optimism. If they would have kept handing the kid the ball, he would given every last drop in the tank. I am a Sooner, so I watch everything I can, and Samaje is a fantastic kid, and possibly a generational type running back. He still has 2 more years, unless he goes pro after next year, and he is already over 3000 yards in his career. No redshirt either, he is a true sophomore.
Everyone gives all of the credit to our guy Perine. But look at how our o line man handled kansas this game all day long. Look at the holes! Lol props to our o line as well. I couldve ran for 150+ baha
should have left him in there with 12 minutes left. amazing performance. love the way he runs, i see some michael johnson in his running style, no wasted movement, like a locomotive, you can tell he was a track man. really surprised he hasn't had better results in the nfl.
I was at that game and people were leaving and this guy next to me was like: "We're staying to see history". I am so glad that I stayed even though it was cold and raining. I didn't care because I saw history made that day
@@haywirenightingale9610 Ha! That's absolutely Lincoln Riley! Shirtless and pumped up, cheering on his Sooners and Samaje from the crowd. Stoops made the right call to pull Perine once the record was the set. Who knows what the final tally might have been had he played the last 12 minutes. Hell, he might have laid 500 on Kansas had him stayed in the game. What a magnificent performance.
Terrible season... but this was a ray of sunshine in that cloud filled season. And Samaje Perine was a huge part of getting us back to relevancy the next year and ultimately to winning 3 straight Big 12’s and hopefully many more too come.
sage bacon Man I bet Melvin Gordon can't run over people like samaje perine can!....the man is like nothing anyone has seen before him! There have been faster running backs and there have been stronger running backs?...don't know bout that one. But there hasn't ever been a complete back that can do both as good as him....so far....02$ worth #32 ou #1
MrHoboyoda Gordon leads the country in yards after contact =) he can do a little bit of everything. Perine is probably stronger based on his lower body strength. In two years, I'll be surprised if Perine isn't in New York for the Heisman Ceremony. Fantastic back, but Gordon is a mercurial talent, Perine may be too, but we've got to see how well he progresses.
TheSCallaghan well, gee..... how much more does the man need to progress? He progress much more he'll start growing white hair! The man already looks like a 35 year old body builder.....lol! Just kidding. Just being a freshman would be hard on anyone hungry for success, but to actually taste it for a minute like he did against kansas!....we'll see what that does to him. Some guys like Marcus Dupree (great sooner!) Tasted it but couldn't handle his own potential. Hope Samaje can and good luck in the draft with your tailback he's badass!
funny to read some older comments now that Perine's career at OU is done, having left the Sooners as their all time leading rusher, beating out the great Billy Sims
Can you do one for Brennan Clay? I feel like he deserves it. He was the most underrated and underused back in the Stoops era. He proved it to me when Damian Williams was kicked off the team in 2013. Clay took over and made a lot of plays.
People comparing Gordon to Perine are hilarious. Gordon was in college for FOUR YEARS before he did what he did and he did it against a team who had a worse overall defense and worse rushing defense playing behind arguably the best offensive line in the nation at Wisconsin. Perine was 19 years old when he broke this record and he did on a field that was a slippery as ice. No one even knew who Gordon was until his junior year.
Robert S People knew who Gordon was because he ran for 1400 yards while splitting carries the year before. If Perine comes even close to 2000 yards we can talk about who the better back is. Nebraska was a top 15 rushing defense when Gordon ran over them. And the Wisconsin O-line this year was the worst in the last four years, (Says something about Wisco O-lines). And he did it in the snow storm in Wisconsin, temperature of 25 degrees. And Gordon redshirted as a freshman, mostly because they had two NFL caliber backs already on the roster.
Need to look up Perine folks. This guy bench presses houses! Probably the strongest guy on the OU team! That includes linemen! What's so great about him is that not only is he a fast load of bricks, he's humble.
He did it in the rain! They didn't try to break it, it just happened! Can't throw in the driving rain! I was there and it was 50 and rain the whole time!
Yes, the Jayhawks suck. But, they play what? 12 or 13 games a year, with 12 or 13 different running backs yet Samaje was the only one to set a HUGE record against them. C'mon now. Give him his props and let him be.
Never seen so many jealous people in my life. Gordon is a dang good running back and his game speaks for itself. Im an OU fan but when the Badgers played I was watching Gordon and that good Wisconsin Offensive line. Sounds like I reading a bunch of high class recruiters, not. Stick to what you know and thats enjoying the game.
Good grief. People yelling and screaming on here: "I'm from Wisconsin and Melvin Gordon was better!" & "I like Oklahoma and Perine was a freshman and it's more impressive!" & "LT did it first!" what are you drunk? 400+ Yards is 400+ Yards! when you have a day like that, your school band is going to be worn out, the defense will be demoralized, your fullback will be drafted and your offensive line will be looked at by NFL scouts a lot closer. it's an amazing record these three men have, and they are EQUALLY IMPRESSIVE!
Not to take anything away from Semaje, because he's obviously a very talented young RB with some power, and I'm sure will be very good the next 3 years, but this might be some of the worst defense I have ever seen by a D-1 team in a major power conference. Just atrocious tackling, angles, pursuit, etc all around. Give some credit to the O-Line for creating some big holes as well, but mostly just really poor defense for a D-1 team.
+Brandon Van Ya cause no one else played kansas or rutgers or fbs schools in the last 100 years. Obviously Perine was playing agianst the worst defense in the history of college football? Could you imagine if they let Adrian Peterson , Barry Sanders, Marcus Dupree, Joe Washington, Herschel Walker , or hell Bo Jackson play cupcake teams? Oh wait..you mean they had cupcake teams then too? Huh , funny how Perine has the NCAA record then. This isn't all directed at you, but the arguments against his accomplishment on here are getting a bit rediculous. He had a better single game than any running back in college football history. Haters need to just suck it up, and call a spade a spade. He's one of the greats, get over it and just enjoy watching him play.
They were only effectively playing with 10 players, since the QB just hands the ball from the center to Perine.....so run the WILDCAT hiking the ball directly to Perine, and have an extra blocker! 500+ yards.
Got damn were they playing Kansas middle school? Those holes were HUGE! He has the speed and power to take them to this house, but man his OL deserves a fucking Brinks truck filled to capacity.
8MoneyIzmyMission8 His O-lineman are the only reason he went back out in the 4th. He wasn't going to go out, but his lineman wanted the record so he wanted to get it for them.
+Ace Groh lmao sorry but Melvin did his against a Nebraska defense which held teams to 150 yards per game. And even despite Kansas playing horrible Melvin played 3 quarters lol. It's no comparison, if we wanted Melvin coulda had 500
look at the first run at 0:20. his first 50 yards of the day. there's LITERALLY no defense even on the field. there's not a single commenter here in this comments section who couldn't have produced the same result even if they were SKIPPING down the open pasture. then look at the 4:00 mark. another 40 yards where there was no defense even on the field.
The big ten is the best running conference, period. It's their brand of football and every week you know you're gonna get some runs against you. old school power running. Perine had a great day against a very weak team in a slightly better than average conference. As a badger die hard, i will have to say completely unbiased, that if you look at what MG3 did throughout his career (Freshman 216 yds/9 att against nebraska// Soph 193/15 @ ASU, 143/25 vs SC // Jr 140/16 vs LSU IN ONE HALF 408/25 vs RANKED Nebraska and 251/34 against Auburn), it proves that his record breaking game was no fluke. after seeing what Perine did last year, and what he's doing so far this year (one game over 100 yds), it was merely a fluke and a "perfect storm" scenario... not to take anything away from one of the greatest days of running no doubt, but it's like what colt brennan did at Hawaii.. no one remembers anymore because he played a bunch of nobodys. There's no comparison. On the record breaker alone, it's almost insulting to compare the teams played, carries, and minutes played.
+True North Entertainment And do you actually watch football? First off, this year almost the entire OL is new. They have had issues with run blocking and needed time to work those out. Second, new OC who is trying to figure out how to work Perine into his air raid offense. Saying his record setting day was a fluke is biased and idiotic. I won't argue that the Big10 is more RB based as the Big12 is mostly different forms of the air raid. But, OU has produce some damn good RB's over the years and to claim that Perine's day was a fluke is dumb.
True, but Melvin Gordon only played 3 quarters when he broke the record and Perine needed 30 extra yards in the 4th to break the record. Against a Kansas team that was ranked 104th in rushing defense that year, no less. Had Gordon run into the 4th, he would have run for much more.
@@MrAfterword Perine didn't start the game against Kansas tho while Melvin Gordon did start against Nebraska so it's pretty much a wash, they played roughly the same amount of game time.
Wisconsin fan here, massive props to Perine, I just wish he'd do it during his own Heisman campaign, next year or his junior year. Sooners look set at RB for the years to come, great kid, great back

***** IKR! that makes that stat even more unbelievable.
Need to look up Perine folks. This guy bench presses houses! Probably the strongest guy on the OU team! That includes linemen! What's so great about him is that not only is he a fast load of bricks, he's humble.
No disrespect to Perine and his accomplishment, one of the greatest performances I've ever seen, but that damn O-Line though, blocking their asses off
He did it in the rain! They didn't try to break it, it just happened! Can't throw in the driving rain! I was there and it was 50 and rain the whole time!
Amazing!
Good grief.
People yelling and screaming on here: "I'm from Wisconsin and Melvin Gordon was better!" & "I like Oklahoma and Perine was a freshman and it's more impressive!" & "LT did it first!"
what are you drunk?
400+ Yards is 400+ Yards!
when you have a day like that, your school band is going to be worn out, the defense will be demoralized, your fullback will be drafted and your offensive line will be looked at by NFL scouts a lot closer.
it's an amazing record these three men have, and they are EQUALLY IMPRESSIVE!
Matthias Schwalbach Every time they come back here and argue I get more views on this video. Don't discourage them
Perine + Great offensive line + average QB + bad KU team = awesome day for a great Running back!
The O-line deserves about 50% of the credit.
A wild baker mayfield appears in his natural habitat at the end
He is going to be a great Redskin HTTR
That's a future Hiesman! Humble dude!
Christopher Ventris Saw Mayfield at the end eh? Lol
Perine with 3 tds yesterday. Hope Mixon is okay though!
Hope he does good in the NFL
I love OU and SP, but this was pathetic defense.
+Brandon Van True. KU's defense didn't put forth an ounce of effort in this game.
so Tomlinson sets the record against utep I guess his record shouldn't count . shut the Fuck up !
Charles Surber Strawman argument.
hambone694 When Backer mafilde is done with he's currier will you do a video like these one for him or like the sterling shaperd video
It’s now 2020. I’ve tried to figure why Perine did NOT make it in the NFL. Can anyone share their thoughts on this, please.
Its weird to think that this was my first ever Oklahoma football game
one question, where the hell is the defence ?
+shawn richardson it stayed in Kansas
It is the Jayhawks XD
The Oline should have the game ball in this one. I have never seen a defense pushed around like that!
Perine out here running gassers in a live game
XD that kid in the background at 5:09
Who was our QB this game?
Cody Thomas
#teamperine❤❤❤❤
I was at that game
Did anyone see Baker Mayfield at the end? 9:51
grate memory's hambone ! your the shit hommie two thumbs up 👍Bommer Sonner
Holes were huge
Wow! He ran darn near a quarter mile!
Did it in just over 3 quarters too.
I hope he can do that in the NFC east division games
which one is more impressive melvin gordon or sameje perine
perrines was better
+Ace Groh lmao sorry but Melvin did his against a Nebraska defense which held teams to 150 yards per game. And even despite Kansas playing horrible Melvin played 3 quarters lol. It's no comparison, if we wanted Melvin coulda had 500
+Tanner Gould after perrine broke the record they sat him with a chunk left in the game
Samaje perine is like Marcus Dupree
Just imagine what he could have done if he stayed in the game he still had almost a full quarter to go to do more damage
look at the first run at 0:20. his first 50 yards of the day. there's LITERALLY no defense even on the field. there's not a single commenter here in this comments section who couldn't have produced the same result even if they were SKIPPING down the open pasture.
then look at the 4:00 mark. another 40 yards where there was no defense even on the field.
I went to this game seat number 1
I hope he does this against sf this week.
+True North Entertainment wasnt a fluke, perine had over 1700 yards rushing
Bet you wish you didn't say that 100 yards thing now that the seasons over
I still believe they should have left him in. He could added another 100 ON THIS DAY.
And he came OUt with 12 minutes left. He could have got 500! You know, If Stoops was Harbaugh.
love this pick welcome to Washington sledgehammer mode
Never even heard of the guy... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💯 Definitely didn't do anything at the next level 💯
In highschool when we played against him he was strong but we stopped him for only 40 yards
Yea per carry XD jk
Holy Shit he did it with 12 minutes left in the game. Damn.
True, but Melvin Gordon only played 3 quarters when he broke the record and Perine needed 30 extra yards in the 4th to break the record. Against a Kansas team that was ranked 104th in rushing defense that year, no less. Had Gordon run into the 4th, he would have run for much more.
@@MrAfterword Perine didn't start the game against Kansas tho while Melvin Gordon did start against Nebraska so it's pretty much a wash, they played roughly the same amount of game time.
the record is 9 tds held by trevor taylor with 700+ yards
