  • I have wanted to get my hands on some American Girl magazines for YEARS! I missed that era of AG and just knew, KNEW it would be the kind of thing I would have loved as a kid. Well, I got several of them recently and it turns out they're the kind of thing I love as an adult, too. Please join me for a relaxing, delightful, glee-filled look through the first AG magazine I've ever laid eyes on.
    And I would love to know if you've read these or used to have a subscription. Would you like to see more videos like this? (Hope so, because I plan on making them lol) Be sure to say hi in the comments!

    “I would probably… I mean, my dad is dead.” I did laugh, because same. This was so cute. The magazines you got are a lot more recent than I was expecting! I was an AG magazine subscriber from 1993 to maybe ‘99. I loved all the crafts they used to include although I don’t think I ever made a single one! 😂 I love crafting but I feel like they always required some super random supply that I didn’t have. I wish I still had all my old magazines and catalogs but as a voracious magazine consumer in the 90s and early 2000s they all had to get tossed as some point.

      I'm sure after I go through all of these, I'll want to track down some older ones and compare, but almost three dozen of these...I'm going to be busy for a while. I really hope people can feel like we're friends, hanging out in our PJs, flipping through magazines together as I go through these.

    This is so fun!! Takes me back to the “good ol’ days” a more “simple time” when we were young and somewhat naive.. 😬
    I’d Love to see more of these!
    It’s def like hanging out w your besties at a slumber party!!

      YES!! Yes to all of this. Maybe I'll wear PJs in them - just some friends in our PJs, hanging out eating popcorn and flipping through magazines. I'm even going do a community post inviting folks to do their own elf-portraits and email them to me since readers' elf drawings will be featured in the next magazine I look through. It would be fun to show viewers' drawings at the same time as the ones in the magazine :)

    As you WELL know, I grew up with these. My family had a tradition that you got to pick out a magazine subscription when you were eight or so, and so from 1997 to 2000 I had AG magazine as my subscription. I always loved it - at the time, they would publish short stories for the historical characters in there, lots of fun zany 90s crafts, the ever delightful advice column, and so much more. It's fun to see that it was still part of its core in 2015. And of course, in the late 90s, they had the paper dolls which were SO COOL. You'd submit a picture of you and information about your family history and culture, and they'd have an outfit for the modern YOU, and then outfits that represented the eras that different women in your family over generations would have worn. I played with those paper dolls constantly.

    • @agtakesover
      @agtakesover  6 днів тому +2

      That paper doll feature sounds so cool. Did the paper doll look like you or was it standardized and they would just send you custom outfits? Either way, how cool?!? I think after I get through all of these (which will take a WHILE), I will probably want to find some of the older ones just to compare them. They're so fun!

    • @eliseelliot
      @eliseelliot 6 днів тому +2

      @agtakesover They would design the doll to look like the girls who sent in the submissions! I always wonder where those lucky girls are now.

    These are so great! I would have loved to get this magazine as a kid but I too missed the boat on that one because of my age :(.

      It’s never too late!! I didn’t really read the PC books as a child (ADHD and other ailments/obligations;) but I have been enjoying collecting and reading them as an adult! And sadly.. I’m learning “more” about HisStory through HerStory than I evvvverrr did as a kid in public school.. le sigh 😔
      OG PC books are my fave- (w the “look back into history, and overall accuracy) but also the newer AG books definitely have good messages for us all.. no matter what age 🫶🏽✨
      On that note: Save Addy!! Preserve OUR history.. the good the bad, the ugly- all very important life lessons- and several we should not repeat..
      Alright- I’ll get off my Lorax Soap Box now. 🌍✌🏽💜✨

      Sage advice! I didn't do ANY of this AG stuff as a kid, @jessicacorrine2085, so I'm doing all of it for the first time as an adult and I can attest it's a blast even in my mid-40s.

      @stephaniefriend9912 - I should read Caroline's this year :) I do love Kit's and want to read some more of the ones I have but have yet to read (Rebecca's, Marie-Grace's, Cecile's, and some others).

    I really enjoyed this! I wasn’t sure at first, but I love the way you went through it and your comments! (You had me laughing out loud at some of them)! Now I want a copy of all those brownie recipes! 😜 I love the questionnaires, the This or That and the advice column. If this had been around when I was kid, I would have begged my mom and dad for a subscription! I loved reading Highlights! My mom had a Good Housekeeping Magazine subscription and I remember looking forward to her getting it every month because of the cut outs in the back, and some of the other activities for kids. I would definitely tune in for more of these!

      Oh, you were a smart one! I know a lot of collectors who are kicking themselves for tossing theirs. And I'm glad you like this one - I decided I'm definitely going to go through the whole stack of them in this format. They won't be the most popular videos, but for those of us who enjoy the magazines, it'll be GREAT!

    In Boston we used to have this magazine called teen voices I was published in it a few times❤
    I got to go tour the teen voice office with my teen center. This unlocked a memory I forgot my first time being published was as a teenager.

      yeah, I miss the sense of a starting point and a finishing point, too. Magazines (like books) offered that, but scrolling doesn't. I have not scrolled on social media (other than specifically searching #DressLikeAnAGDay on IG) since 1/19 and I think it's been good for me. Also, though I never tried to go by Ace, I did BEG my mom to let me legally change my name to China Lacole and in middle school I kind of did give myself a nickname - Bambi. Do you know I don't even think my wife knows that? LMAO I guess I had forgotten those mortifying tidbits of my pubescent questionable choices!

    These magazines look really great. I do have some good news to report they found my parcel and I should have it tomorrow either all my American girl items and my 125 ballet doll set. Also I am coming to American in May to stay with a friend for a month I would so love to meet you. I will be in Georgia. Sending much ❤️ always.
