Wow, that after dark photo of the path with the spruce bottom lit is fabulous! Such a difference in that area since you widened and reworked everything. Beautiful!
Hi Robbie! You gave some great tips on pruning your rose standard, an any other rose. I like your idea of planting more roses in front of your apple espaliers. The Weeping White Spruce is a beautiful tree. I'm so happy that you got your dream tree. It's beautiful in that pot, especially the night view with the landscape light shining on it. More containers with trees will be so pretty on that side of the house. Your cyclamen still look so pretty. They really shine at night. Freya does look beautiful in front of your new tree. I love how she always wants to be a part of what you're doing. Thank you so much for sharing!
Oh and I love love the thought of three Roses in front of the Apple Espaliers !!! Yes Freya looks beautiful! You seriously make my day more joyful. Keep smiling!
Oh Robbie, that spruce lit up was so pretty. I envy both you and Janey fir being able to overwinter plants in containers! Ah well, at least zone 3 doesn’t have earwigs! 🤣🇨🇦🎄👏
Love the Weeping White Spruce and it is perfect for that spot in your yard! We planted a smaller one a few months ago and I already adore it. Can’t wait for it to grow more! Definitely my favorite tree we’ve planted so far.
So pretty! When you said add Christmas lights my first thought was oooooooohhh what if he added up lighting! It’s gorgeous and I see why it was on your plant list.
The rose looks great in the new location and I LOVE the weeping spruce! I’m excited to see you adding evergreens and thinking about height variances in your planting. I would also add that leaf texture is important. If everything is the same size and texture, it hard to distinguish between plants.
You should call the entry walk the "tree alley" or for a more uptown name "Allée" which means a straight path with trees or shrubs on both sides. The word comes from the French word alee. I think combining it to "Tree Allée" would be perfect - it sounds good as it rolls off the tongue. The light on the tree is perfection.
OMG, this is my first time commenting but that weeping white spruce is just fantastic so I had to! LOL! What a beautiful plant. A dream tree for sure! And lit up at night it is stunning! Congrats!
You have a beautiful yard! We are also in California but in Zone 10B. The espalier tree is a great idea to maximize space - we are thinking along the same lines and have started utilizing our vertical space more by putting trellises against our fence for our passionfruit plants to climb.
Thank you for the information about the tree rose. I have been paralyzed with fear about pruning mine, now I just feel anxious ( baby steps). You mentioned adding Yarrow..it may be too late, but Janie just pulled several from her property. Just a thought-you might see if they are still viable to repurpose. Free plants! Merry Christmas, Robbie, Brent, Freda, and Sadie.
Oh my gosh, I love the spruce with that accent light!! Really looks beautiful! Love the idea of making that a container alley!! Great way to be able to collect some larger trees/shrubs to then take with you.
Make sure you took off all the green bands that were holding the tree to the stake. I've seen some accidentally kept at the bottom and it malforms the tree. Overall, great job with the garden. ^^
I planted a weeping white spruce 7-8 years ago. It’s my favorite tree! I staked its leader the first 2-3 growing season, but then stopped and it kept growing very straight. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! 😍
I love the way you plan out you plants. I am very similar. Thanks for all your wonderful suggestions and advice. I need to cut my roses back and now you’ve shown me exactly how 🩷😊
Thank you for mentioning the height difference of the tree rose. I’ve heard people speak about tree roses several times but that is new information to me. I am a fairly seasoned gardener, do not have a tree rose yet…but I don’t know that I would have thought that the tree wouldn’t get taller. Well done!
Robbie, your white cyclamen are looking sensational! Such an informative video about cutting back your roses. I love your gorgeous new dream tree! Merry Christmas! ❤️💚❤️💚
Wow Rovvie that tree has been on my dream list for a long time. When you show it all lit up it was an aww moment, it all looks so amazing, magazine cover beauty. ❤
There is nothing better than a happy accident in the garden and the inspiration that happens because of the happy accident!! Thanks for the rosé lesson - I Lwa red some new things. Awesome job Robbie.
Dear Robbie, I thought you were keeping that Coco Loco rose tree in a pot so you can take it with you whenever the time comes when you and Brent move! The tree looks great there by the way 😊❤
Always delightful to spend a little bit of gardening time with you!! I have a suggestion for your espalier bed….i have a very deep border in front of a wire fence that has climbing roses on it and I put a very narrow “path” with old pavers in front of the roses so I can easily get back there to prune and cut roses for the vase. If you put a simple little path between your roses and apple espaliers it would make your garden care so much easier….and it would look cute and provide a little mystery draw into the bed, too!
Hi Robbie, great video, very useful information about roses I have a little rose, and I thought it would get big, but now I know it won't happen Thank you! Robbie Always learn something from your videos ❤🌻🙂
Dear Robbie, Thanks for the close up and explanation of the rose trimming, that helps me a lot bc I’m very new to gardening and I have several roses I will have to prune soon. I love your idea of adding two more rose trees. The repetition will look very pretty plus it will add cohesiveness and I would think it will add dimension too. The tree looks great there by the way 😊❤
I live in zone 9B and have a LOT of roses (they thrive here!) I've always thought I should hard prune and de-leaf most of them just before they begin to push new growth (between late Jan-late Feb here). I've never known I could do it earlier and that it might be beneficial to do so as it would five them a "rest" Since I have more than 100 roses (its a big place), it would be nice to get an early start on a big job, but I'm nervous about doing anything very different than what I've been doing.
Robbie, this was an excellent tutorial on tree roses and how to prune them. It was interesting to hear your reasoning as to where you planted it and how you see that space. I would have planted the tree rose a bit further off center of the espalier but hearing your thoughts as to your planting placement gave me a new perspective. Thank you. I always enjoy your videos!
Loving the tree in a container garden area, and wow lighting the new evergreen in the pot looks great and the rose in front of the apple espalier is right on ❤❤❤❤❤
I will be so interested to see how your conifers do. I am also in zone 9a in the San Joaquin Valley and the extreme summer heat and intense sunlight are killers for plants. I have been wanting to add conifers, but am afraid to!
Side Yard Looks Great Robbie ✨ just a suggestion though, roses are full of thorns & planting them in front of an apple tree - it wouldn’t be very easy to pick apples off.
I start my morning every day sipping coffee, watching you and getting ideas for my garden. Love where you put the rose tree. Suggestion rose tree, bush, bush, rose tree in that planter. Also a special tree would look great blocking the “pole”. Love ya!!❤
I am sooo plant jealous!!! CocoLoco rose and a weeping spruce!!! So pretty! Thank you for sharing how to grow them in containers! Everything is looking lovely there 😊
Good Morning Robbie, your garden is looking gorgeous. I love the addition of the Weeping White Spruce. It looks stunning in that part of the garden, and the lighting is perfect. The white cyclamen is beautiful. Kudos to you!

Robbie and Brent…your garden looks so pretty during all seasons!
The night shot of the tree with the lighting and white cyclomen is gorgeous!
Oh and I love love the thought of three Roses in front of the Apple Espaliers !!! Yes Freya looks beautiful! You seriously make my day more joyful. Keep smiling!
I learned so much from you today about roses.
I also garden in central CA, and it's nice to follow someone in my zone and who has spaces similar to mine. Great inspiration, thanks!
Oh Robbie, that spruce lit up was so pretty. I envy both you and Janey fir being able to overwinter plants in containers! Ah well, at least zone 3 doesn’t have earwigs! 🤣🇨🇦🎄👏
Very succinct rose pruning instructions!
Very 🥶 Good day to look the new rose and bulbs catalogs and check mark what to order next.
Love the Weeping White Spruce and it is perfect for that spot in your yard! We planted a smaller one a few months ago and I already adore it. Can’t wait for it to grow more! Definitely my favorite tree we’ve planted so far.

I have never grown roses here in zone 11. I may look into some varieties. 🌹🌹

I think combining it to "Tree Allée" would be perfect - it sounds good as it rolls off the tongue. The light on the tree is perfection.
The tree really makes the entrance look really nice, and your ideas about placing roses in front of each apple espalier is awesome.😊
OMG, this is my first time commenting but that weeping white spruce is just fantastic so I had to! LOL! What a beautiful plant. A dream tree for sure! And lit up at night it is stunning! Congrats!
That new tree looks great with the spotlight on it. That pathway is looking quite lovely.
Love the tree. Freya approved. Look at those roots. Happy accident with rose placement.
That's a beautiful evergreen. My biggest worry would be keeping it upright once you take the stake off. I've seen some go gnome hat.
You have a beautiful yard! We are also in California but in Zone 10B. The espalier tree is a great idea to maximize space - we are thinking along the same lines and have started utilizing our vertical space more by putting trellises against our fence for our passionfruit plants to climb.
Love the tree with the light on it, so dramatic.

😮 The entrance weeping spruce spruce with spotlight... Gorgeous!❤
Bro for a moment my heart sank thinking you were tossing the Koko Loko rose. So glad you added it to the landscape.
Your entrance here is so inviting. Love the addition of the weeping white spruce!
Oh my gosh, I love the spruce with that accent light!! Really looks beautiful!

Love the new weeping white spruce! Colour is amazing! Can’t wait to watch it grow😊
