    Just started this one and so far so good. As you would expect, No flash at all and it all goes together easily. The "jig" mentioned is, in fact, the place where they end up in the wing/nacelle.

    In the canopies: Airfix have included most of the bits to make a PRU (photo Recon) PR. XVI also. (The canopy and side pieces s with the blisters, not the bulged. The PRU version should usually also have a standard bomb-bay door. (The later PR35 had a bulged bomb-bay like many B. XVIs. Looks like a very nice kit.

      @ Brett Peacock; as Ive said in another comment I have accidentally bought three of this kit so will take your comment as a suggestion on how to finish the third 'extra' as a PR. @@Simon_Nonymous I have their old PRXVI/BIX kit from a few years ago in 1/48. (Essentially you get a complete FBVI kit (Original 1/48) and extra sprue trees and parts including fuselages/engines to make the bomber version. They do include almost everything you need so I recommend finding the instructions for it (Or, IF you can find one) borrowing the kit to check the new parts. It has all you'll need, cockpit layout, cameras and windows for them etc.
      Years ago i did convert a Tamiya BIV to a PRXVI and built it in USAAF markings (They used them for weather recon and strike photos) I used Paragon engines and canopies and a few other bits and bobs and it turned out OK. Sadly I can't post any photos here. I will put a photo up on my FB feed FYI.

    Good review as usual, but I'm surprised you didn't pick up on the minute size of the pilot in comparison to the control yoke! Also the fact that the Mosquito was crewed by both a pilot and navigator, yet no navigator figure is included in the kit, just the tiny pilot!

      @@MOS6510Models sorry for the necro; to be fair it's a great kit, but massively spoiled by it being a TT.35 clone and not a real B.XVI.... a shame Airfix couldn't get this right as it would be a matter of CAD minutes to alter the bomb doors to include the portholes and alter the rear fairing hump to get it spot on....

  • @ivorbiggun710
    @ivorbiggun710 3 роки тому +1

    There are some nice elements to this kit and it is high time we had a model of a two-stage supercharger version in this scale but, unfortunately, Airfix have made a very big error with this kit. The bomb bay doors are totally wrong for a B.XVI as they have raised and engraved detail for a post-war target tug version. Presumably they used the aircraft at the Cosford RAF museum for their research as this one has bomb doors for a target tug version. This error is quite noticeable and will be hard to correct, particularly the fairing at the rear of the bomb bay which is completely wrong. It's difficult to understand how they could have made such an obvious error when there are so many references available. Also the tail wheel is wrong. It should be the anti-shimmy type but it isn't.

  • @timorvet1
    @timorvet1 3 роки тому +3

    The kit seems to have inherited some of the inaccuracies from their 1/24th scale kit, most notably the spinners and block tread tyres. The cuffs on the spinners appear to be missing the noticeable kink toward the rear of the spinner, also missing on their large scale kit. The block tread tyres look like a scaled down version from their larger kit, lacking any side wall detail, and overscale tread blocks that should be more subtle and grouped closer together.

    • @MOS6510Models
      @MOS6510Models  3 роки тому +2

      interesting.. they claim to have original plans and had the plane 3d scanned to make it more accurate.. be interesting to see why they did this

    • @timorvet1
      @timorvet1 3 роки тому +2

      @@MOS6510Models My observations are from looking at the kit you have in front of you, now I could be wrong about the cuffs, but from what I could see they didn't appear to have the kink there. Perhaps you could take a look yourself and let me know. I do know that some parts are overly thick, spinners come to mind as well as the pilots seat armour which in scale appears to thick.

    • @ivorbiggun710
      @ivorbiggun710 3 роки тому +1

      @@timorvet1 If you want to see more errors in the kit look no further than the bomb bay doors. Totally wrong for a B.XVI as they are for the TT.35 version. I also think that the wing spar raised areas are way too pronounced and will take some effort to correct.

    • @timorvet1
      @timorvet1 3 роки тому

      @@ivorbiggun710 Cheers Ivor, back in the early 80s I built their old 1/48 FB VI and found it to be superlative in everyway. Mind you it didn't have a one piece wing, or wing box with spars for the wings, no detail in the undercarriage nacelles, or a bomb bay.....but hey I was a teen at the time thats all I needed to entertain me, lol. Airfix did well with this old kit, for what it had at the time was acceptable. It had fine detail, especially with the undercarriage group to scale and not overly thick mud guards, u/c door fenders, (something this new kit lacks, but the Tamiya 1/72 kit has) a nicely detailed rim and tyre with the right tread pattern (something I thought they would have got right on this new one) and a nicely represented cockpit with the pilots seat armour to scale thickness. Beside those few issues its a very nice model.

  • @mikes5637
    @mikes5637 3 роки тому +3

    I think your kit's sprues got dropped at the packing stage hence the scuffs and the missing frame D, which is why you're also missing a crew member. Should be 2 pilot figures, surely?

    • @mc2594
      @mc2594 3 роки тому

      also from what I can tell the MkXVI had 2 full size pilots seats, the kit seems to have the earlier Mk's standard smaller navigator bomb aimers seat of the non pressurised cabin, at least looking at this long established illustration the second seat is clearly different from the earlier one the kit still has?: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/A1Jpn5-CfDL.jpg

      The landing gear on this model is poor. The cross bracing between the legs is totally incorrect and will need much modification and the U/C bay door guides are grossly oversized. The bomber re-supply set has a 4000lb cookie and I've got one in my spares box i think and will buy the Mossie to use it but now I'm confused although I guess the bb doors type didn't necessarily determine the actual load, didn't one carry a Torpedo? admittedly my older kit didn't have the luxury of these choices.

    Canopies. Suspect its difficult to mould these in one piece. Also Airfix have included the blister side panels, fitted the the Mk IX, they may be planning a re release?
    Note the bomb bay doors and rear fairing should be smooth. Think they've got that detail from the Target Tug Mk 35 at Hendon.
    Also 8K-K wasn't a pathfinder, HS-D was (109 squadron). The significance is that the latter probably had a blind bombing Radar set (Oboe) fitted. Nose transparencies were invariably painted over on such aircraft.
