Without question, the de Havilland Mosquito qualifies as one of the finest fighting aeroplanes of the Second World War and one which could claim to be the envy of every other air force, particularly the Luftwaffe, who tried, but never quite managed to produce an equivalent aircraft.
A true multi-role aircraft, the Mosquito's famous nickname 'The Wooden Wonder' referenced the fact that this hugely successful British aircraft was constructed using 'non-strategic' materials and employed a clever system of balsa and birch plywood lamination, which gave the aircraft great strength.

What a great video. To see what the designer was striving for and to listen to a designer who is a builder is the way all kits should be designed. I hope to see more these type videos in the future. Congrats on a beautiful, practical designed kit. PS other companies had better take a heads up here. This is the future and this gentleman is the type of deigner you need to be employing if you want to stay competitive. Airfix has gone from from to second tier to innovator with this business model
There is a great set of booklets by Argus Books called Aircraft Archive. In one of them it shows a man next to an aircraft and he's holding a tape measure and notebook. That was how it was done back then if they didn't have drawings as a resource. I assume that the CNC process for mould cutting has made it easier also.
We need more men like this. He has put so much effort and thought into the design, in order to make the build that much easier. And the Bomb Bays... I can't wait to build this Kit.
Makes such a difference when a model builder designs a model, love the new airfix kits of late and this looks another great kit
Very impressive.I have been modelling Airfix since 1956. They should do this with every new release. I run this in the shop for the customers. Helps sales!
Sounds like you have really designed this with the builder in mind, well done!
So refreshing to see someone who is intelligent, dedicated, considerate and humble.
Airfix has a strong future with designers as dedicated and conscientious as Mr Sembhi.
This is great social media content Airfix. I’m not sure how easy or hard it was to convince them to do this interview, but it’s great seeing the designer take us through it.
A model kit designed by a builder, passion on what you do, makes a huge difference.
He’s a really sound chap. Airfix have a real asset with Paramjit.
Great video Paramjit, fantastic detail at this scale and your idea of using the lower wing for a jig to build the landing gear is brilliant !! well done
I don't build in 1/72 scale anymore but the way that Paramjit describes how he approached this, from a modellers perspective, makes me want to build one! I love the commitment to getting the bulged canopy parts right. Keep it up Paramjit. :)
Awesome to see someone allowed to hit their absolute best form in their work. An Artist you are Paramjit!
Just knocked out a Tiger Moth with my son, his first kit, and his favourite WW2 aircraft is the Mossie, so I think Santa will be dropping this down the chimney!
Bringing Airfix into the 21st century. Looking forward to building this one.
very nice Paramjit .and you even included a Flory Mug LOL . look forward to getting the kit. Might see you on Phil's show again .keep up the good work Im sure everyone will appreciate the work that goes into it.
What’s phils show?
I would like to shake this guys hand, not only has he produced a kit I have been wanting for quite some time, ( I am aware of, and have three of the Matchbox kit but that is a child of its time and rather basic) he has done a spectacular job of it.
Thank you sir.
Got something else to add.
Please could this guy get to work on a Manchester and a Lincoln.
And if you good folks at Airfix want a suggestion for a new model that has only seen vacform or limited run injection molding how about a TR1/TR1A/ER2(NASA) SPYPLANE in 1/72?
We are very long overdue a decent kit of this important type.
I wish I could give this comment more likes. And that I could shake his hand too. Well done too airfix and this designer.
I’ve been modeling since about 1960… over the years I’ve often wondered who designs & engineers model kits, instruction drawings, the actual molds, decal sheets, etc. It’s wonderful to see and hear a designer discuss the evolution of a model kit, great insights into the process & problem solving aspects. I love the latest kits of Airfix, especially the Beaufort & Mosquito, and the Blenheim & Walrus in 1:48. Please make more videos like this, perhaps even one showing what production facilities in India is like!
Well done to the designer👍 It's good to see that the guy that designed the model is also a modeller.
As a middle aged veteran with PTSD I’ve come back to modelling as a way to fill my head with the details of a build and not leave the room for the bad shit for a few hours and I’ve found that it works
Love your attention to detail and will be following your career with interest !
Paramjit is amazing. I've seen a few of the chats with him now. An absolute huge asset to Airfix. Well done, Sir!
Awesome, my one turned up this morning
This looks fabulous! So much extra detail packed-in, and in 1/72 as well!!
I don’t usually pre-order but in this case I would. Great video, hope to see more like these.
1. The aircraft itself is a beauty
2. That colour scheme is great
3. The example built aircraft is gorgeous
4. Listening to this designers passion and explaining his project is simply a pleasure.
Congratulation Paramjit with this little beauty Your approach to the Mosquito as a Designer and Modeler makes sense, and i look very much forward to building it.
Quality content, Airfix! I bought this kit - even if it is not in the scale I prefer nor is it a subject I'm interested in - because you had Paramjit talk about the process of designing it. I'd highly recommend to use this as a best practice in terms of promo around the release of a kit - because it really works.
Wow. What a world we live in.
I've been modeling as an adult for 15 + years now, and have won awards with my 1/700th Scale ships. Over the years I have often wondered who designs the kits I buy, and what their perspective is. Recently I got into aircraft and picked up this kit at the local hobby shop. I want to make some comments about Mr. Paramjit's work.
My first Airfix kit was the Typhoon Mk Ib. I was pleased with the kit, and I thought the instructions were adequate. The next kit I bought was the Tempest V. I thought that kit was a distinct improvement over the Typhoon, with better detail, and a more logical construction sequence.
When I bought the Mosquito, I was immediately impressed with the quality of the casting, but especially the instructions. There are guys out there that love to buy these horrible old kits, sweat and curse over them, and then complain when they're done that they did the best they could. God bless them, I am not in that club. I want the newest, best, most detailed kit I can get. When I see a CAD rendering of the model on the box art, that's a plus for me. When I see CAD renderings in the instructions that's another plus. The extra steps and measures Mr. Paramjit has engineered into the model is the sort of thing that I don't expect, but very much appreciate when I see.
As I haven't built the kit yet, I don't have any comments on the actual construction, but I just finished a build video where the modeler speaks of how well the parts assemble. I think this is a real benchmark of a kit, and I hope to see more of this kind of work from Airfix in the future. Well done and keep up the great work!
Just built one of these - the ability to jig the undercarriage and then fit when painted was excellent !
Thank you Airfix, for content like this. It is interesting to hear the designer talk about his considerations while designing. It is nice to hear that he thinks about ease of building and painting. Also, having watched this makes me want to buy the kit.
As someone who has actually built this kit I have to say that it was an enjoyable build.
The step in using the wing as a jig made it so much easier to get everything lined up.
I was impressed by how minimal any gaps were though tbh I don't actally recall having any. Pieces fitted just how you would want them to.
I would love to see a version of the kit which could be built as the prototype W4050 with the possibility of having shorter nacelles from the first flight. It would make a lovely display having the evolution of the Mosquito as it is one of the few prototype aircraft which survived the war and has been restored for display.
It has been a while since I built an aircraft model kit and was pondering which one to take, this video convinced me to order the Mosquito, looking forward to building and painting it. Great to see the designer talking through the thought process when designing it, thank you! :)
Well I just reviewed this kit and its one of Airfix’s finest 1/72 releases 112 steps of carefully thought through plastic parts. Love it
Paramjit you have a bright future, looks fantastic!
Sounds like Paramjit gets it! Well done. I'm excited to get a copy to see for myself. Thanks to the team for an excellent video.
I'm blown away by Paramjit in this video...Really good...I just want to go down the pub with this guy and pick his brains for a couple hours...Just going out now to buy a 1/72 Mossie!!!
I received mine recently direct from Airfix. Lovely kit. I have yet to start the build, but it's certainly a thing of beauty.
I have not seen blanking plates for painting included in kits like this before. That caught my eye straight away. Bravo!!
Great model. Fun build
Everything he said about the landing gear was great! That seems to have addressed all of the most difficult parts of building that bit of an airplane!
looks like the right man for the job, thanks for your passion, can not wait to get one myself
This airfix mosquito will bring a hope for the uk to restoration of airworthy mosquito to the sky and hope the next mosquito 1/72 is a night fighter version and fighter bomber version and a new tool 1/72 b-29 and fantastic on your Desire mosquito. Well done team of airfix
I like the cut of your jib, Paramjit. I wish you continued success!
Great job Paramjit, now I hope you're busy with that new tooled 1/48 Bucc 😁
Think the bomb bay has external fixtures from the TT35 (at Hendon?). Very easy to fix, I will have a moderately sized squadron of these things.
What he HAS got right is the separate fuel tanks on the bomb bay roof. These were omitted from the 4000lb carrying Mosquito to make room for the bomb winch and release gear. Kudos!
Well done Paramjit for designing another great model.
Just had delivered the Mosquito, very impressed so far, well done on a fantastic design 👍
I managed to pick this up at one of my local model shops on Tuesday, it looks like a beauty!
This sence passion and pride is what's going to help Airfix get back to the top af the market.
I’ve been looking forward to building this kit since it was announced. I really like how you are embedding ease of building and painting into the heart of the design process.
Great work Mate! Can´t wait for this to come out in 1:48 (the best scale) ;)
Beautiful kit. Amazing to have a job like this.👍
I have heard the landing gear is a really well thought out design and works great.👍
An Airfix designer - what a great job! :)
Really nice looking kit Paramjit. Certainly looks the part. I’m sure Phil will thank you for the subliminal advertising with the Flory girl mug..!!
Nice thank see your passion for the project and the build. Fingers crossed your next project will be a 1/48 Buccaneer…😉. You know it makes sense. 😇
All the best to you and all at Airfix from a Flory member.
Love these interesting interviews with the design peeps hope we can see more in the future good luck to all these guys
Very interesting.
this guy seems really kind idk why
Great to see you're using the scheme from that famous Chas E Brown colour photo; had that as a large poster on my wall when a lad.
Excellent video and design of the Mosquito.
Fantastic job, what a kit!
I love what the Designer Paramjit as done with the de Havilland Mosquito model 1/72 the masking bits and landing gear :) 10 out of 10 model for me.
This customer thinks that clearly a lot of thought went into this one and a lot of great ideas have come out of it - great work mate!👍
PS any particular brand of "clay wash"? 😉
Great to see this. Terrific job on the kit!!
I"m building this now! It's very good.
Looks fantastic Paramjit, Looking forward to building it.
Designed using scan data! It sounds promising.
Looking forward to find it at my usual supplier.
Excellent 👍
Very well done sir!! 👏 A B17 F next (:
Great work sir! Can't wait to build this one👍
Good job, Mr. Paramjit!
Whilst I'm very fond of the DH.98, I wasn't planning to get this kit. I'm revising that decision now. So much thought's gone into this design, so much ingenuity, I'm eager to give it a shot just to have the experience of putting it together as much as any other reason. Okay, Airfix, you win. Chalk up a sale.
Thanks Jonathan! We agreed Paramjit puts a lot of passion and thought into his designs. We are sure you'll love building this one! Thanks for watching.
Well done looks like you've done a great job....look forward to building it!......nice videos btw
Does sound good... Know the Tamiya version at that scale, this has bomb bay detail, yes like and will get.
One thing i did not like about the Tamiya kit was that you had to use a decal on the inside of the canopy. Im hoping the airfix one is not like that.
Brilliant video,i’m building the chipmunk at the moment which is going really well
Thank you Raymond, we are so glad you enjoyed the video. Don't forget to share your Chipmunk build on our social channels, we would love to see it!
Outstanding build , looking forwards to getting it as soon as it comes out ! Wish you the best in your future designs . 👍👍 Cheers, Tony
Nice and informative video! Well done!
Never heard of that software before! Creo Parametric, I'm just an amateur but I've had to switch between blender and fusion when making design depending on the features are easier to make in which software which is not ideal.
Be nice in 1/48th scale plus with an option to adding the Molins cannon
Just about to start the red arrows kit then I have this ordered to do next. Great job well done
Great kit, well done that man. Such a shame that the kit on the box isn't the correct type. If you want to make the target tug a really top kit.
Sounds good!
I have a 3D printer. I would like to see in the future, as tech improves, Airfix provide downloadable printable detailed Model templates (for a price ofcourse). You can do well doing this
just ordered two, one for me and for my friend. Can't wait to get it. Any plans for the FB Mk.6 Mossie to be updated?
Airfix may not be the best but Airfix is a staple in modelling, if you ask an experienced modeller what their first model was, most will say "Airfix Spitfire" or "Airfix Tiger" . It has a very nostalgic feel from the video, to the boxart to the instructions.
Just ordered mine from your website really looking forward to building the Mosquito. 👍
I am currently building the new tool Sabre . I can see that the design was very good but when you make it the poor quality plastic and moulding create a lot of difficulties . Generally the chunky soft plastic and tendency for it to be warped makes a good design spoilt . Airfix really need to take production back into their own hands , improve the quality ( including packaging ) . As you mentioned competitors , look at Tamiya kits . The price differential has lessened a lot lately . I am building their P38 at the moment it is near perfect and didn't cost a lot more than the Sabre . Which is crude in comparison .
Hi Paramjit, this looks like its gonna be a future classic mate. Not seen the kit in the flesh yet but followed its development via work bench. Much as I liked the previous Airfix Mossie kits in both 1/72 and 1/48th scale were not easiest to put together, I found particularly the wings and engine nacelles could be problematic. It sounds like you've solved these issues I like the idea of using the spar on the wings I guess that helps with the design of the Bomb bay too. Correct me if I'm wrong but in the scale its the first kit to have the option for an open bomb bay?
I also like the idea of using the wing as a jig to assemble the undercarriage too, hopefully you can utilise this method in future projects too.
I look forward to having a go at your Mosquito soon :) Congratulations on a job well done.
Love it
Great video, now how about a 1/48 Fairy Gannet.
Brilliant
When can we expect to see a modern tooling of 1/48 and 1/72 Sepecat Jaguar ? Modelers desperately need a decent jag now !
This sounds like the complete opposite of the Roden model company, which puts absolutely no thought whatsoever into making the building process easier. 👍
Can we have a Lysander please
New 1/72 Lysander would be great! Especially if they retooled the "spy" figure and included it.
The Dora Wings Lysander is beautiful. New tool as well.
@@PeteCourtier thanks, I didnt know about the dora wings version 👍
@@joeshmoe9978 iirc it comes with PE and a canopy mask👍
great, my spares box has a 'cookie' from an Airfix Lancaster waiting ..
is there a _Happy Xmas Adolf_ decal?
I have a question How much longer until the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is restocked in The US Airfix Website?
brilliant insight, can this 3D model be used to make a larger model ?
Does this designer have a instagram or youtube. Would love to see his technique on how he builds and paints?
Anyone seen a HighBall version?
I appreciate the love and care but for Pete's sakes please put pilots in my beloved airfix it's not fair to some who like pilots in the cockpit not a cock pit that has more parts than the whole model
looks as he is the perfeckt mean for the job.
Question: why not include a mask for canopies?
Model kits designed by model builders.
Simple, isn't it? So why hasn't this been an industry standard for years?
