Nice one,i was in the northern lakes last night on bowscale fell.blew 40 mph winds up there was manic, then rain & mist this morning.grand views & ayy the earplugs are a must in my soulo too with the wind noise..tfs mate..Andy.
Thanks Andy , I thought I got a fairly sheltered spot but was wrong lol . but it was manic at times and really tested the akto . Look forward to seeing your camp on Bowscale soon mate atb Dave
once in scotland fairly high up, the gusts flattened the tent onto my face, all night! but it just kept popping back up as the gust passed, good test that. it was a vaude hogan ultralight, still have it 14 years later, no damage.
Quality stuff, Dave. Very similar stuff to my last camp...views, tent, wind, ear plugs and brew. But what more do you need in life. The Akto looked to cope no bother at all. Keep em coming
Cheers Paul , yes while you were on the eastern fells I was being blown away on the western fells lol. but as you say what more do you need eh . akto was a rock TFW atb dave
Thanks for your comment on my channel which led me to your channel, very nice so I've subbed you and I'll enjoy catching up watching them. Cheers Darren
Nice one Dave, I love the storm camping videos and good footage from inside the tent when the wind really kicked in, I enjoyed that, I’ll check out your other videos while I’m on 👍
@@BorderRambler ha ha tbh I think its pestering everyone who even thinks about dusting their tents off. 2 weeks a d I'll be back out so hopefully the winds are calm but either way I'm out as these days I struggle for tent time. Anyways keep them coming and thanks for sharing it.
You always get the wind mate, looked really windy up there your tent was rattling, I'd be worried in my cheap vango up there haha, awesome time lapses and spectacular scenery, good stuff mate, the worst wind I ever experienced tore my tent apart, on cliffs in Anglesey, poles shattered, only fiberglass ones, me and my brother, quite scary really, tent went in the bin the next day, after that experience I always get a bit anxious in strong winds. Good camp mate, all the best 👍
Cheers Gaz , it seems like the wind follows me lol , but worth it for scenery and views just glad i was in the Akto and not my old vango helium as that would have blew away... Sound like you had a rough time Anglesey and it left an impression.. TFW atb Dave
Very windy night good job you brought ear plugs dave, but a great view point from Blake fell. I like your timelaspe on the clouds Thanks for sharing ATB ALAN GREGORY
Great video thanks for sharing. take it you can recommend the Akto? I’m looking for a new tent. The windiest camp I had was 1985 on the north west Highlands of Scotland. A storm 8-9. We were on a campsite but we woke up to a couple of VW campers on their side. We had never heard it though the wind was so strong. The tent we had was a Vango Hurricane Beta. A tremendous tent which cost us £180.00 in 1983. A large sum at the time. Cheers.
Thanks for watching , I own a few tents but If I know the weather is going to be unpredictable I always turn to the Akto especially if used with delta pegs it aint going to move. It sound's like that was a wild storm in 85 and the vango served you well . atb Dave
Yes Dave, it served without fault until 1996 when it was retired from active duty. I reluctantly threw it out around 10 years ago when after speaking with Vango they said it couldn’t be repaired. ATB Simon
Thanks Eddie , yeah a winter camp would be fine due it being rolling hills rather than steep climbs but it still packs in the great views. maybe I will return in the winter ?? ate Dave...
The Lakes are brilliant for hiking and evidently camping too. We did a wee walk up above Ennerdale (and around the lake first) in the summer. It was superb. Great views too. It's one I haven't got round to YouTubing now that think about it! The tent is tough is it not? I think it would have continually flatteded my Blade2. So long as wet doesn't get in you are fine. Sit it out as you said. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Cheers Terry , its a lovely secluded area of the lakes , the little tent is a toughy and my older vango would have just layed down too. thanks for watching atb Dave
Thanks Anthony , camping on the summit was a big no it was bad enough a few hundred feet below lol , taking my earplugs was a wise decision and helped soften the noise. TFW atb Dave
Border Rambler thanks for the quick answer. When i was camping in the forest last week, the ground was very soft from the rain. The original pegs were a bit short to put tension on them. I‘ll look out for longer ones
Well you survived the West Cumbrian wind.😆.Was it worth going up there as I recommended? Cracking views isn't it,shame it was a bit overcast so you didn't get a nice sunset over the Solway. Was the forest track still cut off? That was pretty wild on the top but see you went well away from the cairn...bet you were shattered once you got home.Glad you sampled the area, its a little corker isnt it. Did you see anyone at all? Good stuff marra...and brave to come out west being a Carlisle lad 😆😆.Further across is Floutern tarn but think it is pushing it to camp there as no flat bits to my memory.oh and cheers for the mention 😆ATB Mark.
Mark Thompson nee problem Marra 👍🏻 was all quiet really , the path was still closed but I saw people on it . A great place it was and enjoyed it but that wind was somat else like 😂 ! But the views were stunning and could see for miles and no marras bothered me like . Would deffo go back maybe a snow camp ❄️💨👍🏻 thanks to you for showing me the location on your vid atb Dave 👍🏻
Well hopefully if you return you will get to walk on the forest tracks and admire the scenery from the road.Mind plenty of places lower down from.the summit to camp and shelter by the tree line. At least the tent has held up in the winds and you never had to pack up .Its just a cracking spot for a day walk if its all.accesable.😊
I will return , I quite liked the look of Carling Knott just to the NE of Blake Fell 6:06 and Mellbreak looks ok too . Sharp Knott a possible too. atb Dave

Lovely video mate!! Akto looks solid in the wind.
Thanks and yes the Akto performed well in the wild conditions atb Dave ..
Nice wildcamp there Dave shame about the wind like but you and your tent managed it with ease, awesome views from there too. ATB Steve
Outdoors Lifestyle thanks Steve , the wind seems to follow me at the moment 😂 TFW atb Dave 👍🏻

Those Ear plugs came in handy not that you would get much sleep with that wind on the tent, Good Video ATB, Les.
Cheers Les , surprisingly I managed a good few hours kip ... Maybe cos I was totally knackered lol TFW atb Dave
Good one your safe in the Akto.Loved the time lapses and music i think that would be a great and safe campspot in full winter conditions.Atb.
Thanks Eddie , yeah a winter camp would be fine due it being rolling hills rather than steep climbs but it still packs in the great views. maybe I will return in the winter ?? ate Dave...
enjoyed this one Dave. Great choice away from the maddening crowds. Shame about the wind...Never saw a soul when i did this... Great stuff ATB
Thanks , yes a very quiet location apart from that wind . but still very enjoyable atb Dave...

Impressive views and timelapses, have been kept awake by many a windy night myself. I think that was a wise decision to camp lower down. ATB Anthony 👍

Thanks for watching atb Dave
Lovely video. X
I think all that tent flapping would have made me feel anxious.
The ear plugs drowned it away after a while , I got used to it and wasn't to bothered but if it got worse then I dunno ...
Nice camp. Already sub to Marks' channel. has good banter with his mate.
Cheers for watching , yes they are both good crack atb Dave
Amazing video. Ty friend :)
Cheers and thanks for watching atb Dave .
Blake always windy that one..
Yes it seems that way lol
Very nice video. Did you use the original pegs or would you recommend longer ones in these conditions?greetings from Switzerland!
I used the original pegs , but I have since purchased some delta pegs for when I pitch in wilder locations. TFW atb Dave

Laughing at your ‘spit it out’ text. That hooley’s not making too much racket on my iPhone at least, considering how much of it there was.
lol I knew what I wanted to say but it wouldn't come out , and when it did it was wrong as I was supposed to say shelter TFW Dave
😂
How long did it take you to walk up mate ?
Paul Turvey about an hour and a quarter, if I remember rightly . Atb Dave
@@BorderRambler Cheers Mark, I'm looking to go up there this weekend coming 👍
Was it windy, Dave? You never said.
Nah just a gentle light breeze lol
A real brutal outdoor climate test...
Cheers , thats a good day in the Lakes lol atb Dave
