    I think the whole youth integration situation will change drastically if/when we win something big (Premier league/champions league). It's one thing to bring on upcoming talent during a game or even start them, but with the pressure and expectation on Mikel's shoulders now to win trophies. It could be deemed too big of a risk when we have more experienced players on the bench and we need to win games.
    Klopp and Pep use youth more because there isn't as much pressure due to being successful on winning trophies more often.
    I could be wrong, but if we win the premier league this coming season, I do see more youth being given a chance. Probably more so in the carabao cup and FA cup.

    Alot of the players we have are growing alongside arteta, he has a clear idea where he wants to go, these next 2yrs will hopefully we will see arsenal compete finally for a champions league and premier league, which obviously we've been close twice now. I always loved the Arsenal cause we have this Wenger quote: "We don't by stars, we make them!".
    I'm not generally against buying a superstar. But at the Arsenal we have our principles, like no one is bigger than the team. And I love seeing Mikel sticking to it undoubtedly. Victoria concordia crescit! It's a strength, no weakness. I believe firmly in this as well.
    Last year we didn't win the Prem. But we have surely been the best of the top six. We should trust the process and no get distracted by alluring chances which costs us just to slightly deviate from our principles. In the long run this will haunt us. 4-5 years ago we did these mistakes. I'm glad we don't do anymore.

  • @GamerFlair
    @GamerFlair Місяць тому +5

    1. Honestly, I'm not sure if its so much of an Arteta problem and just a general, squad depth compared to City problem. Using your 700 odd minute cut off, we have 18 players compared to City's 20 (And Timber was injured for the entire season, otherwise it would almost certainly be 19).
    The bigger issue is not so much that, its more the ones that do just get into the cutoff and the ones at the top doing insane numbers. We have 5 guys pull 4k minutes plus last season, City only had 2. Timber likely would have helped in that regard as they are the two centre backs, Ben White, Declan Rice and Odeguard, and Timber could have covered the first 4. The general theme though is that whilst we have a first team that can compete with City, our bench is not at the same level. They can make subs and there really little to no difference in quality. We do not have that option in alot of positions. The only position that City really have no quality option to step into is Rodri. We don't have centre backs at the level of Saliba or Gabby. We don't have anyone that can do what Martin can do and we don't have anyone that gives us close to what Saka does.
    Its also incorrect that its only Gomez in that position City, Phillips has also filled that role the last two seasons, Cole Palmer only got 370 minutes last season.
    2. I'm not sure this one is a big issue, because if you actually look... Pep doesn't sign them, Klopp doesn't sign them either. Part of being a good manager is going "We aren't signing someone that thinks that are better then the club." Declan Rice is a prime example, he was a top star player but he was absolutely fine to sign because he is a hard working, honest footballer. Pep signed Haaland who kind of had this whole "Superstar" aura even if he is young, but again. His a hard working, honest footballer. And Pep has pretty famously booted many a player out of his club, or frozen them out, because they don't put the team first. Thats the level now. You have to have a team of players who are ALL one of the best in the world in thier position and who all put the team first. You can't have one guy that doesn't, because then why should anyone else. It worked when standards were lower, and you have a team of great players with one or two that were just beyond that and everyone would go "meh, its fine cos they are stupidly good." But everyone is stupidly good, so you can't have different treatment.
    3. Yeah, we sell shit and no argument on this one.
    4. This one is also pretty fair, although I do think part of the issue in the last couple of seasons is that we have kind of fast tracked unexpectedly. The team developed so much quicker then expected that players we thought we would be able to give chances to we just didn't end up being able too. I think the very very best are still here (bar maybe Obi and ultimately that a difficult situation that comes down to German clubs being able to give pro deals a year earlier then English ones). I think its something he would definately want to do, but it is something that comes alot easier once you've had success. At the moment, his kind of on a ticking clock to win, and that has to be the absolute priority.
    Wenger was famous for the youth, but he got the time to do that due to the success he had with a team that was not a result of him bringing through youth.

      @granitxhaka7261 Місяць тому

      What a load of waffle honestly. You dare say Wenger didn't bring in the youth when he played them every Fa and League Cup and kids always reached Quarters minimum. Arteta, Edu and Kronke all are the problems. Highest ticket price in Europe and can't even go out and get us 1 World class player while City have 4-6. Arsenal administration has brainwashed the fanbase to be Proud of and celebrate failure even at our best in 20 years the club show 0 Ambition because clearly there 0 pressure to deliver Major honours

    Decent effort! ;) Two crumbs:
    1) The "can he manage a star" question
    Is having a star mandatory? Atletico and Bayer suggest otherwise; the likes of Bayern and Liverpool have had "stars" in their squads when they won the CL, but in many cases these players were not considered stars when they joined. Lewandowski wasn't a star when he joined Bayern; Salah wasn't a star when he joined L'pool. If you look at a club like City, half of their "stars" were actually bought early - Dias and Silva at 23, Ederson and KDB at 24. Even Rodri was just 23 when he joined. Some of them were already big names, but (KDB aside) none has played for a major club prior to joining. (Yes, I know Rodri had played for Atleti, but just a single season.)
    2) The "can he integrate youth" question
    I think Barcelona is a bad comparison. First of all, one major reason why all those kids got to play was because the club was (and still is) in dire straits. Second, and partly because of that, they could afford to take a chance on youth because failure wasn't a tragedy. Third, failure wasn't a tragedy because even at their weakest Barcelona is still in the top 3 in Spain (haven't finished below 3rd for 20 years!). Arteta doesn't have that comfort because Arsenal are expected to compete for the title and for the CL *now*. If he takes that risk, he might throw the league; if he takes that risk, he might throw the CL. There's too much hanging in the balance.
    I, too, worry about rotation and young talent being lost to others. I'm convinced the former is mostly due to the strictures of the particular seasons. For instance, if Timber didn't get injured so early last season, Arteta would have had another experienced player to pick, freeing him up to do more rotation there, but also to take more risks elsewhere. The bottom line is, the more settled the XI, the more likely Arteta is to rotate in the kids, simply because he will be sure that, if things go south, there will be enough experience and organization in the side to cover the gaps.
    Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing waaaay more Nwaneri on the pitch!

    Very good analysis. But squad usage is a bigger issue. Last season we were quite lucky with few injuries of the starting 11 compared to other teams. You also improve the perfomance level if a player like Saka doesn't play 100 matches in a row. If you give bench players the feeling you don't trust them at all, they will play like that, which means their market values decrease fast like KT, Ramsdale etc.
    Youth integration is also important because you have highly motivated youngsters that identify 100 % with the club and challenge the experienced players.

    I’d say points 1 & 3 are linked, if we don’t trust a squad player to player to play a decent number of PL minutes then they are obviously not key for us, therefore we will not get the best money for them. I think a weakness of Arteta is judging risk, every game he could, he plays his best 11 rather than judging the risk and rotating whilst still winning, this then gives a view that we’ve got poor squad options and reduces their value (ESR, Nelson, Vieira etc), as well as exhausting our key players.

    - i agree arteta doesnt trust the bench due to the significant drop in quality. Based on the squad of 23, the number of games we play and the minutes per match, I think it would be important that 15 players to play 60% of the time, 5 players playing 25% of the time and the remaining 3 play at 5%. The 25% will be the impact players that can come and change the flow or tactic, while the 5% must be the youngsters (nwaneri comes to mind).
    2. Dealing with a Superstar:
    - I think arteta wants a superstar, but he doesnt want a primadonna. Instead of Auba as an example, we should look at Alexis Sanchez as the best example of a superstar without the drama and always deliver every week.
    3. Good Selling Decisions:
    - totally agree with you, mate. But i also think this cannot be pushed to arteta as a whole. This must be handled by Edu. And if we sell, it must be responded by bringing in better quality players.
    4. Youth Integration:
    - I am truly disappointed we didnt do it last season, that’s probably why the likes of walters & cozier-dubbery left. The 5% playing time must be allocated to the youngsters for this season. So that next season one of them will jump to the 25%, or if we’re lucky, we get someone like Saka who rocketed into the 1st team.

    I agree with the youth integration section. We have had too many players leaving us for nothing to only go on to be sold for a significantly higher fee. The money could have been reinvested in the squad.
    I also feel we need a player with X-Factor, who that player might be, I don't know but I feel our football in the more difficult games can become very predictable and laboured. What we need is someone like a prime Neymar who can change the game with a moment of magic.

  • @drop271
    @drop271 Місяць тому

    On the squad usage point, my theory has always been that his game plans are so precise and require really smart players and lots of practice. I think it's why when we rotate there is a drop off because they (decent) players that come in just can't nail the complicated way Mikel has us set up. That's why I think we looked so poor in some of the early round cup defeats last season, and why Mikel doesnt feel confident to rotate more in the league to give key players a rest. I don't know what the answer is - I don't want him to dumb down our plans or anything.

    I'm wondering if the whole academy/youth players situation is a structural problem. In the intensity of trying to win the premier league, it seems something of a distraction to be worrying about these players quite frankly. Maybe Per or Edu need to be given greater responsibility over these players.

    From all these 4 things, I'm mostly agree that we're not proactive enough in term of squad building and the market. Walters, Nkowko, etc could generate some of money if we're being proactive enough to loan or sell them when the time is right. It's also apply if chido obi martin is ready in the future to be at starting XI, we should sell havertz or jesus, or both of them when the market value at it's peak. But the negative side from this method is just we're basically gambling a lot and that's could be our downfall if it's doesn't work

    Arteta needs to trust his bench more. We blew away some of our opponents last year yet he still had Odegaard, Rice and Saka on the field long after the score was settled. These players benefit from more rest & recovery. With Partey's injury issues he should not have been played more than once a week. Instead he is an automatic name on the team sheet even for midweek games. This eventually breaks him for weeks at a time. Best save him for the important matches or even as a defensive substitution. Pep doesn't start K D Bruyne and Bernardo Silva ever game. Even Saka should get a rest vs. weaker teams. And if game is not going well he can be substituted on to chase it. Saka would be more effective if he played less minutes so he was fresh for the most important minutes. Rice and Odegaard also had patches when they were tired and ineffective due to fatigue.

    Hi for me regards to the youth integration is that arteta wants to build a first team and second squard like the way city has builded theirs you can't have both of them , if barca where to get back where they are they are to build a first team and second so solid then you can focus on the youth it's all about time some ine told me only few player play the way real Barca played the way messi Iniesta did play

    good video. however, you can't integrate players who aren't ready. This isn't FM. coaching staff and the manger know when a player can thrive under the pressure of a premier league game. For me, watching the U21s, no one is ready and that is the honest truth. If we are lucky to draw clubs in lower leagues in the cup, yes, Mikel should take a risk but not when we are fighting City and lets be honest, Liv, Chel and a UTD about to prove a point.

    This all feels a bit contrived, a bit of a reach. The one thing that predicts what we win next year is the overall power rating of our players. Arteta can clearly get close to the most out of them. So it’s down to who we can get. All this other stuff isn’t really explaining any variance in our results

  • @DonHbankz
    @DonHbankz Місяць тому +2

    My problem with the 3rd point esp in terms of the season that just finish’s is that I think you are assuming that change was planned rather than forced. I think it was clear Kai was the 8 target but it obvs didn’t work out with him in that role and maybe Timber would have helped but that ifs and maybe. That winter we suffered and had to change to the post Dubai team and shape. I personally don’t think that was the plan but rather a change he had to make. Plus on that point it also links to the 1st yes if Arteta doesn’t trust them they shouldn’t realistically play but the problem with Arsenal is that we make it abundantly obvious and known which players we want gone which in turn significantly reduces our negotiating power and a lot of that is on Teta and Edu imo and now I feel like we have this poor, pushover image in football whereas a team like Chelsea or City can get 15m for obvs 3 place squad players whereas we get 5m.

    I understand Pep is the gold standard for AFC fans to Judge Arteta but we all shud know Rome wasnt built in a day.
    Remember Pep is a perfectionist playing the game with no pressure. He can rotate and experiment however he want with nothing to proof.
    Arteta still has a lot to proof by winning major trophies for Arsenal. He can't afford to rotate and experiment as he might want. So, I don't consider those points as issue for Arteta, rather temporary constraints due to getting over the line for Arsenal and his career. COYG🫶👍

    Arsenal fanbase overhype academy players too much . If they are that good why no big club are in for them ? And why we have to change our youth strategy ? Its clear cause players are not good enough . Arsenal fans will see a few short clips and hype players like next Neymar , next messi . He should use some players who are real good like Nwaneri but lets not act like every academy player is next big thing. And your point of superstar , i dont think its arteta's fault since we haven't actually seen that scenario. Rest points i agree , he has to be more proactive and sometimes be less stubborn . During games Pep's or Klopp's tactics are not working , they immediately change it , Arteta takes time and sometimes feels hes too stubborn to understand that . That's something i want him to improve .
