I got gloriously saved in 1969 and received the Baptism of Holy Spirit a year later. And all my life I have spoke it, sometimes several different ones. Once in awhile I have spoken Chinese. A lady missionary to China heard me doing it. She said I spoke Cantonese dialect. And understood what I said.

God came to the rural wooded area where I live enveloped and and saved me. I had no idea what had happened. What is saved?? I was a new man! A new creation! He then baptized me in the Holy Spirit and I began speaking in tongues. I had no idea what it meant. You see, no man, no religion had told me what God could, would or wouldn't do. Pharisaical denominations will deny God's word now as they did then.
I was 33. That age ring a bell? Hallelujah! As I learned from the Bible I would pray in tongues and He would give me the interpretation.
My wife and I had been married 14 years then and doctors had PROVEN my wife's body killed my sperm on contact and she could not conceive. we were prayed for by the elders and pastor of our church for children and healing of her body. I was speaking in tongues at home and Jesus gave me the interpretation. My wife had been saved and baptised in His Holy Spirit too and had been given the gift of tongues. He told ne my wife was pregnant! (I still have His exact words written in a notebook and on a plaque I made to hang on the wall) He said it would be a son! This was Tuesday, October 29, 1979.
We went to the lab and pregnant she was! She bought a baby book the day after we found out and wrote his name in it, Nathan Matthew! He was born June 25, 1980! This was about 8 months after God told me, no way could science have determined the sex at four weeks. He is 36 now and fine man and a minister of Christ! Hallelujah! Praise God! Thank you Holy Spirit for the gift of tongues and all your other spiritual gifts! Most of all for the gift of Jesus the Christ! Hallelujah!
If God's gifts are spoken against then the speakers and believing hearers of their distortions are being cheated by DEAD religion! ASK GOD FOR YOURSELF, NOT SOME DOCTOR OF DIVINITY. BLESSED ARE THE CHILDLIKE FOR THEY CAN SO EASILY RECEIVE FROM GOD! A-S-K G-O-D! He still speaks! Hallelujah! My bible says whosoever will. Don't let traditions of men rob you of God's gifts, including this one. ASK HIM! Again, ASK HIM. REALLY read the scriptures without denominational or religious, traditional influence.
Too much praise? I think not! Friends, if you had been delivered from what Jesus brought me from you'd be out shouting me! Jesus is the only one worthy of staying excited about. I sing, speak, pray, intercede in the spirit. (tongues) All through the old and new testament you can read of it! Praise Jesus!
Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice! I do this daily! Keeping built up in my spirit like a battery charging! Hallelujah! What God does in saving you is your testimony and cannot be taken from you. Those denying God's spiritual gifts have an argument with Jesus and should take it up with Him, not those that have thrown themselves upon His grace at the foot of the cross. Don't be robbed of God's gifts by their lack of faith.

You say that you did not know what you were speaking and that is the thing: Biblical glossolalia means speaking in and understanding another language without having learned to speak it. The people in Acts talked in a different language they had not learned/spoken before. Your type of "glossolalia" is not Biblical, it is either man-made or demonic, but definitely not from God. Speaking in tongues is not for today since glossolalia has ceased. 1Cor 13:8: "(...) εἴτε δὲ προφητεῖαι, καταργηθήσονται· εἴτε γλῶσσαι, παύσονται· εἴτε γνῶσις, καταργηθήσεται." ((...) but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.) παύσονται describes a process of ending, whereas καταργηθήσονται depicts an abrupt ending. παύσονται signalizes that glossolalia would end in a process... And it has indeed! John Chrysostom, Augustine and Isidore of Pelusium verify that these wonders have ceased. No verse of the Bible claims that these wonders would come back in the time of the grace of God.

Frank Jennings I praise God with you for all that God has done for you and your family, but I submit to you that it was not the result of the gift of tongues. I don't deny this gift, but our God is a god of miracles, and he doesn't need someone to speak in tongues to accomplish them. Not sure if that's what you meant, but I thought I'd try to add some clarification.

    Dr. Brown:
I was concerned about this issue yesterday at my church when I spoke with an individual who conveyed that she had left another church because they basically forbid it (in a way of unbelief). I've looked into this issue several times for fear of deception/chaos within church services. I do not doubt the gift nor its applicability but still have reservations around the issue. For example: people who come to churches trying to "teach" others to speak in tongues. I could be wrong, but a gift does not need to be taught. Obviously, I have yet to receive this gift but find it frustrating when individuals suppose that an absence of this gift is because someone has not asked for it (when individuals have indeed). Either way, thanks for this post. I prayed yesterday about this for wisdom and understanding. I do not find it a coincidence of my passing by this video, as well as you posting it today.
    Thank you

+wallhopefiend It isn't a sign that you are more spiritual than someone else. I also isn't an indication that you aren't doing something right as some Christians espouse. It is a gift from God. Paul even said that he would rather that all would prophesy rather than speak in tongues. Relax. Don't listen to those who say a person hasn't "asked for it." Wisdom and understanding of His Word and Spirit are wonderful gifts of God. I seek wisdom because God says wisdom builds the House. God bless. Sandy

I had a gift of prophesy at a young age and didn't even understand it was a gift. When I was baptised and received the gift of tongues I was a very mature age. I had heard about it and witnessed it in my 20's but didn't understand it until it actually happened. When I was last baptised I received the gift. I awoke with it. Then one time I went to the alter and it did sound like many different foreign languages when the spirit was upon the congregation. I never said anything to anyone at the time because I didn't want to be called crazy. It is a gift I cannot control. It speaks only of goodness and nothing negative. I pray for legions of angels to protect me when I have to go somewhere by myself. With so many gifts I want to only be yoked with someone that has been confirmed to understand these gifts and possibly have most or some of them so we can live love each other together. Sadly, many are merely imitating what they see others with the real gift doing and this really disappoints me as I refuse to be trapped in their system of harrassment.

I think that some believers mistake other believers praying for them in tongues means they are trying to teach them to speak in tongues. That's not true. Once God answers a believers prayer to be filled with the Holy Spirit ,and does so, the believer must then consciously surrender their tongue to the Holy Spirit until the Holy Spirit takes control of their tongue, " tames" it, and enables them to speak in the spiritual language that our English translation calls " tongues"
Once this occurs it triggers the fillings overflow ,which is what the Spirit baptism is. While at the same moment the Holy Spirit joins with the believers spirit forever to remain one with them.

Jesus didn't have to speak in tongues. He had the fullness of the Father, the fullness of Truth and the fullness of the Holy Spirit. He knows all things, sees all things and knows the Father's will. He knew the mind of God because He is God. He is also the Word of God -- all truth. We don't. Sometimes we have to bypass our "earthly" nature and pray in tongues to God. We can have an earthly language and a heavenly language because when we receive and believe in Jesus, we are dual-natured.

Jesus is God -- "I and the Father are One." "The Word was with God; the Word was God." At 2:39, referencing 1 Cor 14, Bevere says, "There needs to be someone GIFTED with interpretation, not someone who knows the language" (in a tone of ridicule). At 3:04, he again says, "You need someone with the GIFT of interpretation." However, this is not what the text says. It simply says in 1 Cor 14:5b, "The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up." So it could be someone with the gift of interpretation OR it could be someone knows that language who can interpret.

I have a few friends that speak with sounds using the English consonants and vowels like badahidashdahakana and we love each other dearly. If they believe that is speaking to the Lord, wonderful!. I wonder what does tongues sound like in Chinese or Russian? I do not have the gift but, I sure do love Jesus and read the Word all the time and know that I am saved from hell. Yes, we do not forbid tongues, but speaking in tongues can cease as recorded in 1 Corinthians 13:8. I believe that this is not a permanent gift but only temporal. Remember, spiritual gifts are given to be given to edify church and not ourselves. And speaking in tongues is a 'known' language. Apostle Paul said in 1 Conrithians 14, that he can speak more compared to others... how can he quantify the tongues he can speak if these are all unknown tongues? how can you differentiate an unknown tongue to other unknown tongue when both of them are unknown??

  • @pjfrog10
    @pjfrog10 7 років тому +2

No. Tongues were given to teach people of a different language than you speak. It was a miracle to have this gift so you could teach people of that language the gospel. It was given to people whom the apostles laid their hands on. We are taught these gifts would disappear but Faith, Hope and Love would remain. The greatest of these is Love. The gospel, the Bible has been written in every language today and the gift of tongues is no longer needed. Paul was given the gift of many tongues because he traveled the known world teaching in all their languages.

If I may, I’d like to suggest the following: The study concerning the speaking in tongues is best understood by studying this phenomenon backward as it were, in other words from Acts19 and/or Acts10 first (i.e. the practical outcome and application of the speaking in tongues). Then study 1st Corinthians14 (it’s application by the apostle Paul who experienced the things of heaven first hand); to such a man - the author of this topic and every other topic concerning the depths of Christ - we ought to indeed take heed of that which he wrote. After 1Cor14, then 1Cor12 and 1Cor13, then Acts2 and so forth. (1Cor14 incorporates Isaiah28:11; also note the relevant passages following verse11 for further insight). Hereafter study Acts2 and align with Mark16:17; the passages from Joel2 are incorporated in Acts2. Unless one has looked into and have studied all of these passages as well as other relevant passages, can such a one speak and provide his/her sensible verdict on the topic.

When people who supposedly speak in Biblical tongues admit that tongues can be faked, then there can be an open dialog about this topic. I have been to churches where you are pressured to seek tongues to be "one of them" and if you don't speak it then you're not among the "chosen". Not acknowledging that there is a demonic force behind pretending to speak in tongues is my number one reason to turn away from those who get angry at addressing this as a potential hoax that sows discourse among those who believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God. If you spend a sizable chunk of your time trying to convince people that your tongues is real or chastising others who think that it can be manufactured, well then maybe YOU'RE the one who is not "one of us" since your main focus is tongues and not sharing the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Can’t agree with you on this one entirely Dr Brown but love your ministry and especially your camaraderie with Dr J white, I think you have really set an example of how we are to behave on issues that are not fundamental or are “in House”, thank you for your candour.
I know that experiences can’t dictate our theology but Having come from what I can only call a hyper-charismatic background I now doubt that I ever heard tongues for real, in fact after knowing Christian brothers for over thirty years one with an eye blinded the other was losing his vision and had short leg syndrome (and in fact has now gone completely blind), I no longer believe in miraculous and/or gifts of healings, having watched both friends at big camp meetings being prayed for and not getting healed, while hearing of back complaints and other (what I can only call trivial) healings which could not be verified on the spot and supposedly occurring.
I don’t believe biblically that you can make a solid case for tongues having stopped, however I now believe that I would never have spoke in tongues if I hadn’t been heavily “coached”; I believe peer pressure and mass hysteria are the main causes of this phenomena.
One thing we have to consider, these early Christians were missing one very important item that today we take so much for granted and that is the Bible, God couldn’t speak to these early Christian folk through His Word so there had to be another line of communication; and I believe that was tongues and prophecy. That’s why I don’t believe they are a “normal” function for the church today, simply stated since we have the Word of God in the scriptures they are not needed except possibly for warnings, I don’t deny that God couldn’t use someone to warn us of impending disaster. As Paul states “1 Corinthians 14:18-19 (NKJV) I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; 19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
And don’t you think that after the tirade on the Corinthian Church for their misuse of gifts Paul ends by saying “1 Corinthians 13:11-12 (NKJV) When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.”
Ever wonder what the childish things were?
God after all can do anything He pleases; and as I am growing older and now have worn painful knee joints; if He should so please to heal me then I’m game! But I am more content with my name written in the Lambs Book of life.
    Every Blessing
    In Christ
    Mark Robins.

My God is the one that Created the heavens and the earth, flooded the earth for 40 days, parted the red sea, sent plagues to Egypt, brought down the walls of Jericho, just to name a few miraculous and great things he's done. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He keeps his promises. His living word is true forever. He is the Word!!! When seeking the kingdom, I take spiritual road vs the physical. I know enough now and experience enough to know the difference between a spirit filled Church vs the opposite. I congregate in an Apostolic Church and a Messianic Synagogue. Both Different but you can feel the difference. On is more into Worshiping, fasting, and praying. The other is more about worshiping and teaching. You can tell the difference on how the spirit moves. There is healing in both. I witness people getting healed from cancer and other deceases. Tongues and interpretation in one. it all depends on the Pastor/Rabbi. I can go to a church for pure teaching and none of the above. Cant do it anymore. Nothing like better than feeling the presence of the Lord. Speaking in tongues, him taking over our most unruly member isn't even a challenge compared to what he has done. I respect your views. But also respect ours since some of us speak from first hand experience. Don't try to debunk something that is that you keep telling yourself that it's not. There are many counterfeits out there for every kind of denominations. Wish you the best, one the day the body of Messiah will be one. there shouldn't be any division. Shalom my Brother. Our Melech Kohen Hagadol (King and High Priest) is here. He will set everything straight. Until then let's keep sharing that Name above all names. Sorry for the long book. Shalom!

You say: “He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”
I say: Contextually do you know what that means?
You said: “He keeps his promises. His living word is true forever. He is the Word!!! When seeking the kingdom, I take spiritual road vs the physical. I know enough now and experience enough to know the difference between a spirit filled Church vs the opposite.”
I say: God said that He would never leave us not forsake us, all Christians are Spirit filled or they are not Christians, There is no such thing as a non Spirit filled church of God. The Spiritual road is the road based on the Word of God, Jesus said His Words are Spirit, I'm not sure what you mean by a physical road please explain.”
You say: “I congregate in an Apostolic Church and a Messianic Synagogue. Both Different but you can feel the difference. On is more into Worshiping, fasting, and praying. The other is more about worshiping and teaching. You can tell the difference on how the spirit moves.”
I say: While I agree that we have feelings they are not to be trusted above the Word, they originate in the heart and God has said “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?” Jer 17:9
You say: “There is healing in both. I witness people getting healed from cancer and other deceases. Tongues and interpretation in one. it all depends on the Pastor/Rabbi. I can go to a church for pure teaching and none of the above. Cant do it anymore. Nothing like better than feeling the presence of the Lord.”
I say: Again God never leaves us nor forsakes us; so the presence of the Lord is always there whether you feel it or not, the feelings are nothing but the flesh, are you letting the flesh dictate to you or the Word of God? If these healings are genuine how come they don’t make national headlines or is maybe you can’t verify them? And how does anything depend on the Pastor/Rabbi? Unless miracles are supposed to depend on men instead of God!
You say: “Speaking in tongues, him taking over our most unruly member isn't even a challenge compared to what he has done. I respect your views. But also respect ours since some of us speak from first hand experience. Don't try to debunk something that is that you keep telling yourself that it's not. There are many counterfeits out there for every kind of denominations.”
I say: I speak from first hand experience 32 years as a believer, 15 of them in the charismatic/pentecostal movement, your view used to be my view. I always respect biblical views but speak out against erroneous ideas. The Holy Spirit never "takes anyone over" He indwells them; only the devil posses people and make them act contrary to their will.
You say: “Wish you the best, one the day the body of Messiah will be one. there shouldn't be any division. Shalom my Brother. Our Melech Kohen Hagadol (King and High Priest) is here. I theorize unbelief may be the reason. There are a lot of people in the church today that do not believe in prophesying the way it's spoken of in the Bible and interpret prophet now to mean a person gifted in espousing the scriptures for today's use.
I think it's an example of people looking around, not seeing certain gifts, rationalizing why they don't, and that rationalization being adopted as doctrine by many. Then the rationalization becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Sorry, he is twisting the scriptures on this point. Acts 2 is very clear as to what the purpose of speaking in tongues was. Peter said to them after taking his stand with the other 11. It was to give a testimony about the Christ whom they impaled(verse 23) The ones that knew about this were pierced through the heart (37) and to the spreading of the teachings of Christ Jesus. Acts1:8 undeniably states what would happen in Jerusalem, there were visitors, merchants, diplomats, pilgrims, or a combination of all. Thus people from all over were present but may not have lived in Jerusalem permanently. For example, a Parthian or a Mede would speak a tongue related to Persian some of the others a Greek dialect (there were multiple dialects, so you'd expect those in Cappadocia or Pontus to speak regional dialects), Egyptian, etc. (as noted in verses 9,10 ) The scriptures are very clear on this,Speaking in tongues was not based on unintelligible speech or Gibberish that appeals to our emotions, that's not how Christ taught, they were amazed at his teaching abilities (Luke 4: 32: and they were amazed at His teaching, for His message was with authority.) It was to advance the teachings of Christ. These people then would return to there homelands and begin to teach others about the good news. This is not rocket science here, we can not read into scripture what suits us. Why has this subject been controversial? Because the modern day church leaders (teachers) have made it that way!

my friend repent and be ye baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. acts 2:38. this is what I did and it truely works. that the real way. if you are not baptized how can you call yourself a christian. please get that point in your head first. after you are baptized you become a child of God by faith. God now forgives you of your sins . you accept His forgiveness by faith and God now becomes your father. now please ask your Father in heaven to baptize you in the Holy Ghost and to fill you. now start getting serious in prayer to God. if you follow this Bible way soon you'll start sensing the Holy Ghost presence coming upon you during times of prayer or worship especially worship. it will feel like chills or goosebumps overwhelming you. at this point you will start having inner urges to say something unto God or rather to make sound s unto God. these strange feelings or inspirations are actually coming from the Holy Ghost inside you. just yield to it open your mouth and speak what you feel like speaking at that moment and the true tongues will start pouring out. at thus point once you start speaking the presence of the Holy Ghost will start to manifest even more which brings more intense inspirations and anointing. you'll feel more free and you get more focus on God and more prayer points comes to your spirit. you'll start getting more prophetic dreams and visions. you'll start feeling people sicknesses in your own body when you get near them in order for God to use you heal them. intact you'll become more and more empathic. the gift is not just for you to feel Good but to help break the yoke of oppression in the lives of people around you making you a better and true witness of God... please if you can't speak in tounges does not mean it's not real
.I have this gift of praying in tongues. its real . I'm not demon possessed. God has used me countless times to heal the sick cast out demons even prophesy. I could not do these things before . it was after I was baptized in the Holy Ghost that these Gifts started to manifest. I don't heal people for money. I received freely and through Christ I heal freely. but I only heal those who the Holy Ghost directs me to. cause its Gods choice to heal. we are servants. I was speaking in false tongues for years and was so depressed but when I was really baptised in the Holy Ghost the true speaking in tongues manifested. it no trick to me anymore. false tongues is just you speaking words with no divine presence. the real tongues is an inspiration from within but it comes with the divine presence of the Holy Ghost. the feeling of the anointing overwhelms you and the vibrations of the heart comes out through the mouth as you yeild to the inspiration. while praying in true tongues your physical body gets flooded with chills and goosebumps. these chills overwhelm you and brings divine inspiration of utterance. it's not like a demon controlling you. you are the one controlling your mouth. but you are not in control of the inner inspiration. that comes naturally. example when you hear a very funny joke you just can't help but feel those happy feelings inside. you feel like laughing. but just because you feel like laughing does not mean you must laugh. you choose to open your mouth and laugh but you didn't choose those happy feelings inside that make you open your mouth to laugh. tongues is like this. I speak in the heavenly languages unto God while praying. I can't control the feelings of the anointing which brings the inspiration of tongues cause that naturally comes by being filled with the Spirit but I can control my mouth. I can yeild to the Spirit and pray in tongues or I can just keep quiet. but if I yeild and speak those inspirations I get an even more intense spiritual release. more anointing. The anointing is for breaking yokes and not just to feel good. it actually damages the enemy. but one must grow in these gifts. the power of God is meant to grow. so the baptism of the Holy Ghost is only the beginning its not the end. but Satan does not want us to grow and that's why he tempts us to sin so that our spiritual growth is hindered. so true speaking in tongues is under the anointing. fake tongues is just you forcing your self to speak trash with no anointing or divine presence. false tongues is also when you are demon possessed and another spirit speaks through you without your consent. the true gift of tongues comes with other spiritual gifts. those that really have the real gift tend to heal the sick and cast out demons from the oppressed. the real anointing makes you empathic. you will feel peoples sicknesses in your own body which makes you know God wants to heal them. once you now pray for them, bam the healing occurs like magic. the more you grow in faith(anointing) the more you see and feel who is sick and needs healing or deliverance and the greater cases of sickness you will be able to cure. it is God curing them through you. we are vessels of God. its not a joke. now when you succeed in healing the sick you tend to get spiritually persecuted cause the devil will not be happy that you set that person free. this is called spiritual warfare. its not a walk in the park. its not a bed of roses . its real war and that's why you must take up your cross daily and be led by the Spirit of God. there is much that can be said about this topic. But the truth is that not many are actually baptized in the Holy Ghost And that's why many false teachers teach nonsense. false teachers only bring confusion. its real . trust but it is for the purpose of helping others including yourself. any questions please contact me at gisitor69@gmail.com
peace and more blessings be upon your head now in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. amen

Modern Tongues - self-created non-cognitive non-language utterance perceived by its ‘speakers’ to be actual meaningful real language.
The same utterance may be subject to multiple ‘interpretations’. You can’t have multiple interpretations to justify and obvious discrepancy. If the same glossic string can be interpreted several different ways, it negates the need for tongues in the first place.
Unlike many concepts in religion, modern tongues is something that is very physical and tangible. Tongues can (and have) be examined, analyzed and studied. As supposed language, they have failed the test every single time.
With respect to modern tongues, people need to make sense of what they are doing. The experience must be Biblically justified or proofed. The resulting implicit theology is not a synthesis of revelation and philosophy but rather a synthesis trying to make sense of the experience in light of the narrative of Scripture.
In short, looking for a way to legitimize modern tongues by ‘proofing‘ it in the Bible, despite the obvious absence therein of anything resembling modern tongues - call it what you will, but the result is a virtual re-definition of Scripture with respect to the understanding of “tongues” for this group of Christians.
People are very quick to read into the Bible things that are simply not there. Based on these misreadings, a given ‘belief’ is often founded. If the text is closely examined however, it is often found that the catalyst for the given belief was never there in the first place.
It strikes no Christian practitioner of speaking in tongues as odd that every single controlled example of speaking in tongues has produced private prayer language, never a real identifiable language. Indeed, no one who has ever spoken in tongues in a controlled, observed setting has ever produced a language that was recognized by a linguist and unknown to the speaker.
Being something that is self-created, no two ‘tongues’ are ever the same, yet it seems practitioners have never questioned this. If tongues are supposedly a heavenly, ‘spiritual language’, why would there ever be a need for more than one.
For some. ‘tongues’ is clearly a self/mass delusion prompted by such a strong desire to “experience God” that one creates that experience.

What a terrible exegesis of 1 Co 14.. Paul said they needed an interpreter because none of the fellow believers would understand what was being said; so that individual was speaking in the genuine gift of languages but even he didn’t know what he was saying so it didn’t profit anyone but him, despite not knowing what he was saying. It’s not some private “prayer language” simply because that’s not what the text says. The genuine gift of Tongues didn’t come upon everyone (read 1 Co 12) but as the Holy Spirit apportioned just as He willed; not according to our desires to have a “showy” gift but in accords with His Will. Paul expounds on this very clearly in the entire epistle and devotes 3 chapters to clarify the gifts.
Dr. Brown has simply clung to his charismatic background rather than remain faithful and consistent with proper exegesis of 1 Co 12-14

wallhopefiend I think speaking in tongues is chiefly speaking in another language that exists either on earth or in heaven. The gibberish I've heard in a Charismatic church I've attended is really borderline crazy. That sounds harsh, but I don't know what other word to use.
I have never observed a church in which Christians have used the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues in accordance with the model given in 1 Corinthians 12-14.
I don't believe speaking in tongues is normative for Christians, even though I believe it still exists.

+M. Aaron indeed I'm sure there is false tongues out there as I have wondered about certain individuals in regards to their authenticity, but one must ask how we can know what is "gibberish" or otherwise. Did not even some of the people during pentecost poke fun at those who spoke in other languages say they must be drunk. Clearly they could not understand what was being said and so they wrongly judged what was happening. Just because there is excess in the church regarding the manifestations of the Spirit does not mean we should avoid it. I suggest a book by Curry Blake called "Concerning Tongues". Michael Brown knows him I believe. Curry has spoken of his relationship with him on occasion. Tongues is probably the most misunderstood manifestation of Holy Spirit and yet Paul was doing it all the time. If that's the case I would say that using this gift is a great asset to our relationship with Jesus. Bless you

    • @LightningSonic
      @LightningSonic 8 років тому

worshipwarrior12 The reason people said the Apostles were drunk was that they were scoffers and possibly fools. Obviously they were not speaking gibberish as those that had traveled to Jerusalem to celebrate Shavuot heard the Apostles speak in their mother tongues / languages.
Paul noted in his letter to the Corinthians that he was glad he spoke in tongues more than any of them. By this we can glean that speaking in tongues was not something one could merely conjure as one pleased, but that it was rather a spontaneous thing directed by the Spirit.
I am absolutely convinced that most Charismatic Christians who believe they're speaking in tongues are absolutely deceived on the matter of biblical speaking in tongues, as sincere as they may be.
I don't know of any modern churches where brothers speak in tongues with interpreters present. All I see is people chanting in their make-believe fantasy languages making more of a mockery of the spiritual gift of tongues, all acting disorderly, and dozens at a time, not 1, 2, or 3 at the maximum like Paul admonished.
Besides, I recall Paul saying that speaking in tongues was a sign for unbelievers whereas prophesying was a sign for believers.
_Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers._ -1 Cor. 14:22
I mean the disciples spoke in foreign tongues on Pentecost not to amuse themselves, but instead to cause a massive scene to draw attention to the Gospel and Christ.

Nowhere does the Scripture say that people speak in nonsensical gibberish, which is precisely what the vast majority of "tongue speakers" do today. It is stretch, Dr. Brown, on your part, to ASSUME that Paul is talking about speaking in a language that is not known - that is, not a real language. If a person speaking Russian walks into a hospital emergency room speaking his native language, and tries to tell the staff that he is allergic to penicillin, the staff will seek the guidance of another person who speaks Russian, a person who can literally translate what the Russian means. You have absolutely no basis to assume the Bible is saying anything different, to suggest that it does is your interpretation of the meaning, not a genuine interpretation of the (Greek or English) words. Respectfully, I enjoy most of your commentaries and honor your ministry, but on this point, we will have to agree to disagree.

What you call nonsensical gibberish could be a language or words in a language repeated. That's the thing about the gift of tongues. It seems foolish. Surely there is false tongues out there but as with any gift, people grow in their ability to operate in it. It is that way with every other gift.
Dr Brown makes the assumption of languages of men and languages of angels from 1 Corinthians 13:1
Also from 1 Corinthians 14:2 speaking to God not men. It's not a stretch there are more verses. Again like in any manifestation of the spirit there are people who fake it out are decided thinking they have it but we should not despise it or shut it down when its used properly. I'm sure you agree on that point. Bless you bro

      +dizerner ..............1 Corinthians 14:19 (NKJV)
19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
It seems the odds are stacked against unknown tongues being used in the church; they are the least of the gifts after all.

+Mark Robins what scripture says they are the least of the gifts?

The order given in 1 Corinthians 12:27-28.

    • @worshipwarrior12

+Mark Robins he never implies that order denotes importance elsewhere in his writings. If so then different sins are listed in order of lesser or greater sin? That's read into the text and assumed. Nowhere does Paul explicitly say that there are levels of importance in gifting except 1 Corinthians 13:13 (faith, hope, love) and it's the last on the "list" that is the "greatest" in position of "fruit". The other place that he could have possibly stated that there is a "greater" gift is 1 Corinthians 14:1 "especially that you may prophesy".
Furthur more tongues with interpretation is prophesy so in a way we should pursue it along with interpretation. He specifically tells us to pursue the gifts. To earnestly desire them because they build the kingdom up. They are tools to help in the production and harvest of fruit listed in Gal 5.
We are believers and these things should follow us
(mark 16). They are not unto salvation obviously but they are amazing for ministry and the building up believers. All that being said. There is no substitute among the gifts for the "fruit of the Spirit" which is what we produce as "good trees"(mat 3,7,12,luke 3,6), the planting of the Lord (Isa 61) .
Bless you in your walk bro.

I totally disagree with this. Dr. Brown is only saying this because of his pentecostal background. There is no gift of interpretation. The baptisms where right next to the Temple (which you can still see today) so other languages would have been used to reach whoever God wanted to here. Dr. Brown I do love you but this is not correct 😔
