This was basically the beginning of the end for the redwings!!! I was born in 97 completely missed the dynasty but gald I was able to watch this as a kid before things went downhill
@@lilPavs13 after the 2008 cup tho we went on the blow a 3-0 lead in the finals. I would actually say that was the beginning of the end. We were still contenders but the cracks were definitely starting to show
Come back every so often just to watch the trophy ceremony. I was 8 years old at the time and really don’t have any memory of Detroit winning a title. I really hope I get to experience and appreciate one live
My first born was also born on this day! I understand your mother's position. I popped my kid out and asked them to turn on the TV pronto! There was no way I was missing a game. Had no idea it would be the game that won the cup! It was destiny!
26:07 idgaf if it’s a penalty that’s what makes playoff hockey so good. So happy they didn’t call this. They need to let them play that’s why 1990’s and early 2000s was so fun to watch.
People never bring up positive refereeing acts but Marc Joannette #25 did great not blowing the whistle on Zetterberg's goal, turned out to be hugely important too. So easy to be too hasty with the whistle in these high pressure games, like what happened with Nashville in 2017.

So I was not yet born for any of the Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup wins, but I am a Red Wings fan and I would just love to see my city win one for my lifetime but sadly it doesn’t seem like we’ll be doing that in the future but when I watched the game over againI just sat there watching I for sure. Thought the Red Wings had lost cause Pittsburgh scored another goal and it was 32 and I saw them win and yeah I I didn’t know why they were celebrating at the time because I was like too but yeah thank you
And then Sykora pushing the stick away so he couldn't get it back 😂 . The call of hooking on Rafalski was weak to begin with and then they let that go lmaoooo the refs really wanted to make this game interesting
This 2008 Wings team can beat every single cup champ from 09 till 2023. Except for Lilja and Lebda....man they stick out like a sore thumb everytime they're on
It was Datsyuk but you are correct about the blatant miss. I remember at the time that I jumped out of my chair and started yelling at the TV :). The refs gave so much to the Penguins that year and we still won!
This was a good one to relive, can't wait until the Wings are back where they belong.
This is aging poorly so far
getting there
Wings have been bad for awhile
Theyre exactly where they belong
Yzerplan
Those back-to-back finals between these two teams was just some outstanding hockey
I was at that game, I remember crying like a baby when detroit won (I'm a detroit fan). Single handedly the greatest hockey game I ever witnessed.
you cried like a baby? that's sad.....
@@OgiexOgilthorpeyour existence is sad
Red Wings I am a diehard Red Wings fan, but I have not been alive for any of their cup wins. I would love to see them win.
My uncle kept me awake all night for this one, very core memory

when lidstrom left it was the beginning of the end. we were contenders up until 2011-2012

man, both 2008 and 2009 finals ended the same way, last second save on a scramble in front.
With the same two teams no less, with one returning the favor.
Red wings lost on home and won on the road
The last team to win the Presidents' Trophy and Stanley Cup in the same year after playing a full 82-game regular season to date.
Blackhawks in '12
@@thepatriarchy819 not a full 82-game season
Watching the crowd get more and more angry is what I live for
Bright future ahead for our current Wings.

Fun fact, I was born on this day on this date I was born 5 minutes before puck drop, my mom refused to have to tv off and she watched the game

Hockey does have the best trophy in professional sports.
WHAT A FUCKING GAME OMFG!!! THAT ENDING!!!! AHHH
8:42 1-0 Detroit
46:40 2-0 Detroit
58:38 2-1 Detroit
1:19:05 3-1 Detroit
1:34:59 3-2 Detroit
1:39:26 Detroit wins 3-2
goat
1:19:05 is my all time fav goal 👍
Just realized that last attempt would not have counted. It was triple zeros when still on Hossa's stick.
Love seeing nick play, I was to young to properly appreciate him
This might be the most significant game to all of this nonesense
You can sure tell who the announsers are for!!

Our red wings are getting there. Another year or two they’ll be a good contender
I loved that arena as a bolts fan
I think Chris Osgood is still the last goalie to win two Cups a decade apart (98, 08). Roy is the only other one I can think of (86, 96, 01)
1:34:50 Such bs that they didn't call a penalty on that Penguins player slashing a stick out of the hands out of that Red Wings defenceman.

Two storied franchises....I don't think we'll ever have another grudge match quite like this one
One of the best Stanley cup finals I would say 2009 was better tho

8 year old me was so sure this went in, cant tell you the relief i felt when i seen it slide out the other end 😅
the second Pittsburgh goal was definitely bullshit.
1:39:45 for the first time in 11 years the drw are the cup champs. Someone forgot to tell him they won in 98 and 02. 😅
he said for the 4th time in 11 years. 97,98,02 and then this one in 08
I was at this game
I remember watching this and thinking all the announcers were very bias against the wings...my 14 year old self was right lol
Best wings
1 year later 😂
why are all spectators wearing white shirts?
The penguins used to have white-outs for playoff home games at the old igloo.
To this day I still think these players are in the league lol
Nice blatant trip on helm ignored at the end there. Watch the next year's finals and tell me the fix wasn't in.

its like baffling how the red wings tried to give this game away the last minute.
“For the first time in 11 years, are the Stanley cup champions” 2002 a joke doc?
For the "fourth" time in 11 years
Great game. Refs questionable calls as usual. Z was the clear MVP. Outstanding.
Fluery cost the pens this game. 2 shitty goals
You guys won the next year. Suck it up.
Like he always did. The most overrated goalie of XXI century
that's only because of covid loo
