Usually i edit these videos under 20 mins but we are very busy with the wife this weekend and there is no time for that, so this video is published almost raw, as it was taped.
Late comment, but the spool doesn't hit the rotor, that isn't the reason for the sound. If you notice the knock sound only happens when the spool reaches it's highest and lowest points. That is because the sound comes from the oscillation system (not the gear itself, but rather the little pin and the sleeve that guides it and makes the spool go up and down) every time it changes direction it will knock around a little bit in the sleeve, making that noise. Shimano and daiwa fix this by adding a small rubber o-ring on the little knob which makes the changing of direction quieter. You can add grease there and lighten the noise but it will remain, however only when you turn the handle holding the reel upside down like you did in the video. If you were to mount it on a rod and hold it horizontally (especially with line) you wouldn't notice any sound. Hope this was helpful for anyone reading comments.
Thanks for doing a review on this. I was looking at some of the Tsurinoyas UL spinners for an UL budget set up. I also saw your video on the Kestral Spinner and it seems like the Kestrel is a the pick from what I could tell. I already got a Diawa Revos LT 1000 for another set up. I was trying to stay under the $120 mark for the reel but could go higher if I really liked the reel. I have heard good things about the Tsurinoya BFS reels and I have an Elf reel that I use for spinners and jigs and have not issues with it.
Victor I agree with 100% of the likes and dislikes about the Kingfisher reel. I recently just bought a Aliexpress reel called Kingdom Micro Fly. It's got a Daiwa Presso spool and the same rotar body and gear assembly as your TSURINOYA. Just like you, I was super impressed with the drag clicker sound, so crispy metallic sound. The drag knob adjustment is refined too. I was disappointed with the knocking sound and gear noise, just not a good job by them. I use it exclusively for ice fishing now. Cheers!
this knocking sound, if on all reels is a reason for the product to be recalled in my opinion. How can u sell a new reel that out of the box the spool is hitting the rotor on every turn.
@@ifishcatfish Daiwa regal or legalis still beat these "new" aliexpress models in 2022. Hope people stop buying so they can improve the quality especially for $60. But I bought lol....😂. I was tricked by the decent cosmetics.
Thanks for the tear down and explaining the issues.Yep as you said hard to justify the hassle of returning it. They probably have you pay for shipping which could be crazy. It did look like a promising reel until you rotated the handle! Hope the family and you have safe and fun weekend!
Another great review. I just bought and returned a Daiwa 16 Regal 2004H($79). It was supposed to be a Japanese import, but it said made in Vietnam when I got it. It was about the size of my Regal 1000, but even smoother... maybe even Vanford smooth. Unfortunately it started making the same clicking noise so I had to return it.
@@ifishcatfish... so is the Daiwa 16 and 20 Regal 2004H a whole different reel than the Daiwa Regal in the states? I know it's way heavier and less sophisticated LOOKING, but is it higher end or lower end? It looks cheaper but costs more. It feels more expensive except for that annoying subtle ticking noise.
forget about the states and europe and japan. 16 and 20 are very different reels, and 20 is a far superior reel in every aspect. There reels are the same in all countries, but sometimes in one country they offer different gear ratios (H is a gear ratio) and sometimes even colors are different. But there is only one reel sold in all countries.
Very informative video, as always. I have a Tsurinoya Ranger 1000S, which is even lighter (156 grams) and I think a few dollars more expensive than the Kingfisher, although when I compare the specs and the size of the Kingfisher in your hands, my guess is that they just made the Ranger much smaller in order to advertise a lighter weight. My Ranger reel and the spool are too small. I do not have the noisy knocking problem, but I do agree about the smoothness and resistance that you describe. It's nothing fatal, but compared to my Legalis and Regal reels, there is simply no way to justify buying Tsurinoya spinning reels that are even more expensive. If the price had been around 60% of the price of Daiwa LT reels, I'd be content with it. The other problem is that there is no resale value, so not only does it make little sense to return these to China as you pointed out, good luck trying to then sell your reel in North America when there is a flood of used Daiwa and Shimano out there for buyers to choose from. As I said, the reel itself is fine, but I have better (and cheaper) Daiwa LT reels for myself and my kids meaning I probably will never even use the Tsurinoya as a backup, and yet it's hard to find a buyer.
I buyed one kingfisher when Its price was lower. Nowadays no reason to buy It. No resale value, Daiwa LT séries is more advanced in technology in the newest version 2021 and normally the price Is the same. AliExpress réels finally lost their market. No point of return.
If the rotor hits the spool because of that freeplay, there might be a tweak, I think that reducing the height of the spool will do the job (can be done with sandpapper). And regarding pinion design, I saw it before on SPRO hardliner reel. It holds the pinion system tightly but the only problem is that both of the pinion bearings have axial force to care, the force with which tightening nut of the rotor produces, so that nut shold not be thighten too much. All in all good review. 👌
i don't recommend sanding the spool on any reel with any problem. The main shaft has too much play up and down and nothing can be done to fix this reel. It was defective out of the factory. They all are.
Have you tried the Daiwa SS Tournament? It is an older reel and nowhere near as refined as modern ones but has a great drag and supposed to be bulletproof.
Have you ever heard of the fishing company Cadence? I picked up a CS5 and 8 spinning reel and they feel pretty good. Funny as I never heard of the company before but appear to have solid equipment.
thats very weird because tsurinoya actually have pretty good customer service (in china) and their ranger series is very competitive compared to similarly priced Shimano and Daiwa brand reels...
I want you to try the super cheap $15 Mr. Crappie Reel from Amazon, amazing drag sound, extremely loud, like it is surprising haha, and for the price, honestly not horrible. Would be a nice video.
Some piscifun carbon x reels will make the same knocking sound. I have found that if i put extra grease on the oscillating gear the noise goes away. Also if you fish with the rod tip down, like throwing a crankbait, you will not notice the sound. The thing is not all the carbon x reels do it. Only certain ones. I have 500, 1000 and 3000 size carbon x reels and notice the noise only in some of the smaller two models.
I have to mention that the Jaguar is a very top seller from tsurinoya (the smaller versions), saltwater fishing comunity loves them specially in spain and probably some other countrys in europe, would be very nice to hear you talking about it, will be very informative hear your opinion. (Same way go for the kuying teton rod, very popular in spain)
Theoretically. But watch my videos of last few months and u will see i've been using it a lot, and it still knocks on every rev. The good thing is u only feel it on empty load. Once u load with fish, u don't feel nothing.
@@ifishcatfish No biggie. MY eyes must be failing me more than usual. I was just saying it's hard to see the tear down reel parts on your table due to the design pattern of your table.
whats wrong with the mat? Only natural colors, and its soft. When things drop, they stay right where they drop. Buy me a mat and i will make one video with it. Just to show you its not easy. There are 5 mats bought and returned in my amazon history. Everything reflects light and is too shiny.
The vendor finally replied and told me i don't get a refund or anything else : ). So be very careful when u buy from this brand.

thats possible. It always makes sound in fishing though, perhaps due to inertia

Some grease somewhere to act as a faux washer ?
