  • I've always felt that the G.I. Joe comic (A Real American Hero) storyline told the absolute best stories of the franchise. Since the movies can't get it right, I've decided to redo the comics with dialogue, sfx and music.
    Issue #34 is basically a stand-alone issue, and one of the most famous comics of the ARAH run! Ace and Lady Jaye of the Joes engage with Wild Weasel and The Baroness in an aerial dogfight for the ages! Did this issue inspire Top Gun or was it the other way around? You decide!

    very cool. GI Joe was my favorite toy line in the 80s. I long since sold my figures and vehicles, but still have the Marvel Comics run.

      Thanks! I love reliving the comics through these videos, as I feel like Larry Hama's story was the best of any Joe universe. Thanks for watching!

    Love what your doing with GI Joe comics. Keep up the good work and your research about the characters traits are spot on. The toy line and comics go hand in hand so it’s nice to see that your not using the animation for voices. Keep up the good work and I hope to see all the original run of comics. Salute to Mr. Hama !

    Issue 50 with the assault on the Pit and each of the generals ends up sacrificing themselves one by one to save the rest of the crew as they go further and further down in to the Pit has to be on your list. Excellent series so far!

    This was a comic that felt like it was exclusively made to be a toy commercial-
    1. Rattler was a new toy, had been featured, but this one really doubled down, and stuck to the actual toy design. (We'd seen variations on it issue to issue).
    2. First issue with Wild Weasel dressed in his action-figure guise.
    3. Showcased a "battle damage" on the Rattler's cockpit that could actually be replicated with the toy.
    4. Didn't really advance the overall storyline all that much.
    5. It helped a 10 year old like me envision how air combat actually happened. Hama's GI Joe was like Tom Clancy for kids.
    6. If I remember right, it was the first (or one of the first) to showcase a much BRIGHTER printed page on the news-paper copy it was printed on.
    I loved it.

    I really enjoyed this, and it's actually one of the few Larry Hama issues of the original run which I haven't read yet, so this was a neat way to encounter it. I noticed you're skipping around a bit with the issues. I was thinking you had done 1-34, but I see a serious gap and a smaller one too. Are you going to finish the rest before moving on to the next, #35? I would love to just sit back and enjoy this as I always thought this story should be told in "movie" or "animated" form.

      Well, I started with 21, because it was my favorite and I didn’t need any voice actors to make it happen. After that, I just kept going forward through the 20s. Then I went back to start at #1, because it’s so iconic. My goal now is to keep going forward with 2 and 30, 3 and 31, etc. The only reason I went ahead and did 34 is because it’s kind of a stand alone issue, plus it only took 4 voice actors to make it happen. Most issues have up to 20+ voices and it can take a really long time to get lines sent back to me. Plus, they take about 60 hours an issue to make.
      Glad you’re enjoying it!

    Why does, Lady Jaye have an Irish accent when she's from Massachusetts?

    • @dshay7gamingandcomics
      @dshay7gamingandcomics  Рік тому +4

      I was waiting for this question! So, her original file card says she has a "faint Gaelic lilt that adorns her speech." The voice actor who played Lady Jaye (who did a marvelous job!) really leaned into the accent, which I'm fine with. If I had 10 people audition for it, I'd get 10 different accents, no doubt. So, this is simply a case of an actor's interpretation shining through.
      Good question and thanks for watching!

    • @RalphBednarski
      @RalphBednarski Рік тому +1

      @@dshay7gamingandcomics Nope. That faint Gaelic accent is her Action Force counter part which when misread online is confused with her main American counter part....her American original version is supposed to sound like the old actress, Mae West with a hint of a Carolina accent which is how it's played in the original cartoon and other interpretations of her....sorry, Becky Lynch doesn't fly the Skystriker...and even though I love your channel... don't have to like everything(that would be unrealistic)...and also....Wild Weasel has "cut teeth"...you should UA-cam how people with "cut teeth sound and talk. But, hey... it's okay, I'll still watch.
      ...also..."Gaelic" is, and only is Scottish. ...and if going back to the file card for debate..." faint " would mean some words might be pronounced with some words picked up from being over there for a bit. Example: Americans would say- Good night as for the Scottish would say- G'night. Lady Jaye is American who went to college in Scotland ....she would not go full Madonna and completely change her accent...only pick up a few words differently. Another example: My Family is from New Jersey and have Jersey accents, I do not cause I was raised in Florida....from being around them, I don't say "Water" like a normal person, but say "Wadder" which would be a "Faint" Jersey accent.

      @@RalphBednarski I lived in Scotland. So when you try to point it out as being an "Irish" accent, perhaps you haven't been around either accent enough to know the difference? I've spent a total of 4 days of my life in Ireland. I can assure you, I do not have an Irish accent. Also, Lady Jaye was educated at Trinity University, which stands to this day in Dublin, Ireland. Oddly, I felt self-conscious about having a Scottish accent when she was educated in Ireland. I guess if people such as yourself can't tell the difference between the two, I'm good.
      By the time I'd lived in Scotland for FOUR MONTHS I had a full accent and people still pick up on it today, 12 years later. But I also lived in Arkansas for a number of years and have a lot of family in New York, but grew up in Germany, California and Utah, too. At this point my accent is so confused even it doesn't know where it's from. LOL! I call it my Arkanbrogue. I'm sorry you didn't feel that I was the right person for the role, but I have to disagree. I feel it was something I wasn't aware I was so perfectly qualified for. And @dshay7gamingandcomics I can't wait to do it again!
