    The best portion of this video wasn’t translated into English. At the end the husband said, “The only thing I could do is to go to work and not be able to help my wife around the house. I appreciate what she does everyday for us and this is at least I could go to show my appreciation!” What a man🥰

    Subtitles for the end
    Husband - "Because my wife is strong, I don't want to upset her and get in trouble"
    Wife - "Thank you, I feel relieved that he thinks that way"
    Husband - "She watches the children, and she tries hard everyday while all I can do is work for the family. She takes care of mostly everything in the house, so who am I to tell her food is bad...I am thankful everyday for her"
    Wife - "Thanks for eating it for me *kiss*"

      Quite frankly you cannot say if it's a good marriage or not from this. It is an example of an idealized relationship and people hanging in there, but that's all.
      Thing is that with marriages, honesty is crucial. People cannot change or improve themselves if no one says anything and if there's a big issue like food being literally inedible then it will become huge stress for the guy and in relationships both sides need to work hard to improve each other without pulling each other down. I cannot imagine the guy eating the food every day as it might end with food poisoning or at least an accumulation of stress. It is sweet to look at, but it's not an healthy relationship, as relationships shouldn't just be about taking from one side (Money, time, etc), or one side constantly sacrificing himself, as the relationship will break in time. Thankfully it seems like it was just a 1 time thing and it's just a guy making a sacrifice while keeping his wife in mind, which I do admit is sweet.
      Being honest, upfront and being willing to help her improve would've been far better (Apologizing to her and being honest would've been far better for everyone, their children included). At least if the guy is honest then the woman will be able to trust him far easier as well throughout the relationship/marriage. Hell you could make it into an activity where you work together in cooking food, helping her in areas where she's weak (In seasoning for example).
      Note: Currently I am in a serious relationship with a Japanese woman and just sharing the way how I see things. I feel like focusing way too much on the self-sacrifice isn't exactly great there, although most certainly that guy is crazy strong as most westerners would most likely find a way to throw the food out while the wife is away (Also not something I would support as it's deception).

      At the expense of the husband. This is feminist dictatorship hellhole, husband came back after work and can't even complain about wife's horrible cooking skill, just to get a "nice husband" trophy? is this why Japan has one of the highest suicide rate in the world?

    • @vorpheuss
      @vorpheuss 6 років тому +210

      I don't think this case here has much to do with feminism. I think it's just common courtesy in Asia to not say anything bad about a girl's cooking in general, at least that's how it seems within the chinese and korean community as far as i know. And i think the husband just doesn't want to hurt his wife's feelings. However, if a husband really comes back after a hard day of work and cannot complain about anything for no good reason but because his wife dictates him, then that would be a hell hole for sure :(.
      I think the high suicide rate is a result of the high pressure environment there. Working overtime is almost an always and pay is generally small , the society has a lot of social rules and regulations as well. i think that's why the suicide rate is high :(

    • @peep7377
      @peep7377 6 років тому +167

      Observer I don't mean to be /that/ person, but you have it wrong. in fact it's quite the opposite. Women in the workplace in Japan are hardly taken seriously, and there is very high pressure to maintain a feminine, "cute" and passive role. Do a bit of research before you depict a culture based on one video. This man just doesn't want to hurt his wife's feelings.

    • @vane4692
      @vane4692 6 років тому +61

      Observer lol you're copy-paste this comment in almost every comment that you didn't even see that this comment didn't say anything about "nice husband" trophy.
      Anyway why are you so salty about feminists? There's not even any here, oh and 'dictator'?? You're too overreacting oml 😂

    • @professionalpotato4764
      @professionalpotato4764 6 років тому +40

      Observer Japan is ranked 26th in suicide rates. Sure it's high, but one of the highest? Nah...
      It's not that he can't complain, but there's a time and place for everything. The husband could always find some time later, and say it in a more gentle way. Perhaps something like "You know, today's food wasn't the best." Just try to put yourself in the shoes of the wife.
      For the wife to handle the housework, take care of the kids and the house, and after all that prepare food for the husband only to hear "This shit sucks", how would she feel about all the effort she's put in the whole marriage? You think it's any easier to handle housework and kids than to work a full-time job? Think again. How about this, imagine you getting off work, getting home and your spouse just starts complaining that you aren't earning enough money. How would you feel?
      Please don't get married with that way of thinking. You're just going to cause misery for your spouse.
      And stop bringing feminism into everything. It barely exists in Japan and lets keep it that way because there's too many feminazis out there in the western world.

      From a nature-conservation perspective, yeah the world population is increasing annually and it's better we have less people to consume our limited resource. But as for Japan, it is calculated by experts to be decreasing and is having a noticeable percent of elders which will eventually die out and will leave with less people which is not good for Japan since they will no longer be able to support their country economically.

    7:56-8:12

In the U.S., at least, when we say we cooked something from scratch, that means we made it w/o relying on pre-cooked or store-prepared components (like canned vegetables). It may divert from the dictionary definition, but that’s what Americans mean when we say making a dish from scratch. I`m the same. When I visited my parents in Canada, my father had these beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL steaks (I live in Japan, no steaks like that here) but he over cooked it waaaaaaay too much. Tough, hard meat. Not beautiful anymore. And I`m thinking "fuck...this sucks!!" But I didn`t say anything. I will not complain when someone is feeding me...giving me food for free. That would be horrible!!

    My dad wont give a comment to my mom until he finishes the food if the food isnt that good but there were times when my mom went like "honey. Just be honest. The kids said it isnt taste that good and I know I screwed it up" then my dad would be like "oh yes! If you were to put less---" 😂😂😂
    But in the end of the day my dad would still eat the food his family cook. Like when I cooked a fried rice for the first time and it was so so bad, the rice was mushy and tasteless, my dad even ate 2 plates of it. "My lovely daughter cooked this so I would eat it no matter what. Just... please get mom's assisstance next time" 😂

    • @traininggrounds9450
      @traininggrounds9450 5 років тому +4

      Absolutely not. He tried to be nice but he wasn't trying to lie. He thought that his wife had turned bitter and no longer loved him so he was sad. That's why he was crying to find out that it was not the case. The way a woman cooks is the most passive way to communicate love or hate for who she cooks for and women have done this for all time, either showing love or hate through the way they cook. So it was much more than just the prank to him.

    Good family, these kids will grow up happily and will hopefully have good lives.
    Great wife with a great husband. Both love each other so much. Some say the husband is not being honest but sometimes you just don't want to upset your partner here. He rather suffer something he considers a minor thing rather than to hurt his wife.
    For Japanese culture I think the wife can be really hurt if the husband doesn't like the food she cooks and can feel really down/stressed and unworthy. In the west and in many other families this may not be the case but in Asian and Japanese families if the wife is the housewife she will feel like she failed terribly as a wife who can't even cook something satisfactory for her partner who is working so hard to provide for the family. The husband most likely knows/sees this and as a result decides to keep it to himself to not upset or make her feel this way. Truly a nice guy and both are just as lucky as each other to find their true love of their life.
    their friends and family must be so happy for them especially the in laws knowing they have a good son in law.
    Lets not forget the husband also thought everyone else liked it and he was the only exception. Not to mention he thought his wife put a lot of effort and 2 hours of hard work into it. as a result he knows if he said it tasted bad he would hurt her feelings very much.
